61  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Phasure NOS1 DAC at CES 2013 on: January 16, 2013, 04:37:54 am
Hi All

I just got back home from Vegas and while there I was dying to post about the Phasue NOS1 and the Venture room. I only had smartphone internet access while there and did not want to try posting with just that.

Simply put, the sound from this room IMHO was easily in the top 3 if not the best of the entire Venetian CES as well THE SHOW in the Flamingo Hotel. This includes rooms with 50k vinyl rigs, and much more expensive DAC and CDP combos, not to mention speakers which cost more than twice as much as the wonderful Ventures.

The sound was incredibly resolved, coherent and lifelike. Lifelike is the best descriptor I can use. I was completely awash in the naturalness of whatever was playing. I stayed for almost an hour which if you attend these shows you know that it is a long time if you want to see everything.

It was by far the best digital in both shows and honestly I prefered it over almost all the vinyl that was playing. It was a great feeling seeing my DAC whistle I mean Peter's LOL at the pinnacle of the entire show.
Congratulations Peter clapping

I found the SFS control last night. Rules Set it from 12 to 200. Can't go higher because I run out of memory.

All I can say is: shout yahoo Happy new year ! Nice

Thanks Boleary. My Windows 7 Home Premium was an upgrade from Vista. When doing the upgrade, it would not let me do the 64 bit version saying the computer would only support 32 bits. I guess I will need to wait fror my new computer.

Below are my current XXhighend settings. Seem to work OK. I get an occasional tick and sometimes I get a message saying it took engine 4 too long to respond.

Peak Extend- On/ Arc Predict- On/ FX -on and slider up to 16/ Adaptive/ Device Buffer- 1024/ Processor Appointment -Scheme 3/ Player Prio- Low/ Thread Prio -Real Time/Clock Resolution 15ms Q1 -30

One question I have is about the volume control. Does it not work at all when music is playing? I have to pause or stop to get it to change. Thanks

Hello All
I want to introduce myself as a new NOS1 USB DAC owner. I apologize first and say that I have been a lurker on this forum for some time now (years actually  dntknw) The computer knowledge needed to make XXhighend work properly has been something I genuinely struggle with. You could say it was quite intimidating for me. My thanks go out to all you regulars and your enthusiasm about the Phasure and XXhighend. You did not even know but you were keeping me interested with your enthusiasm and your commitment to the best possible SQ.  That my friends is something we share.

I finally faced my computer phobias (especially after reading Peter was building computers  yahoo .... It has already been ordered). I have just purchased what I once suspected and now firmly believe is the best DAC currently available anywhere. I have not even had the NOS1 for a week in my system; what's left of it that is...no more preamp, or DAD AX24 DAC, or RME soundcard and Antelope Isochrone word clock clapping and a soon to be replaced computer smirk. With Peter's help I got it going with my old computer. It is not running perfect but it is without a doubt the best sound I have ever heard from my system. I cannot get over the incredible musicality. It is the single biggest improvement and change I have ever heard in my system including speaker upgrades. My only regret was waiting as long as I did.

While I am waiting for the new computer I will continue to run 0.9z-61c. Thanks to all you beta testers out there. Get out all the bugs Cool  and my new computer will have 0.9z-705 optimized. Life is good biglol

I am checking out everybody's signature and looking for XXhighend configurations. If anybody has any recommendations, I'm all ears. Thanks again.

I'll review the other two issues and then dedicate this thread to the subject matter in the subject line.

I got the 8.3 message to disappear following instructions regarding enabling 8.3 in Vista by editing the registry and running the fsutil command.  The KB article you mention does not apply to Vista.

Music root has been selected using the methond mentioned and image of settings is attached and we still see the must be a folder message.

On to the real issue.
Reboot System (just to start clean)
Double Click Desktop Icon to load XXHighEnd.
Leave selected track or select a new one.
Hit Play.

XXHighEnd UI disappears from the screen.  No error message presented and none in the application log on the machine either.
The music will begin playing.
Relaunch XXHighEnd UI by double-clicking the icon again.
Music is still palying.
The track placement slider at the bottom is not moving and is set at the beginning of the track.
I can now successfully pause the track and it will stop playing and the UI stays up.  When I restart the play it starts wherever the pointer is at the bottom of the screen (the beginning of the track by default but I can slide the slider to later in the track and it will start playing there) but the UI Disappears as above.  I can relaunch and repeat.

BTW, I'll go ahead and throw fred under the bus on the one topic per thread issue.  That's what I said, but he thought it might be related.

Also, how do I make the "does not support 8.3 Short Names error message go away?

We also see "Music Root (settings) must be a folder warning.  I've tried the \\teraserver\library\ syntax and mapping to M:\ syntax.  Any other ideas?

Thanks!!!

This IS Fred's Son In Law.  Happy

When we load the app and select a track and hit play, it immediately crashes.  It just disappears.  Any experience with this?

Hello Peter
I am a newbie and just got up and running yesterday. My system is a Vista OS in a dedicated Quad core computer w/ 2 terabyte NASD. RME HDSP sound card going to a Digital Audio Denmark AX24 DAC. DAC and computer are slaved to an Antelope wordclock. I am using DB Poweramp to rip into wav files. Other equipment: Absolare Pure preamp, Mastersound 845 monoblocks, Echole Obsession cabling. All attached to Kaiser Kawero speakers.

Until yesterday I was running through Izotope RX music editing software. Music sounded wonderful....only problem was I could only access one wave file at a time with this software. Mediaplayer, J River were availible, but sounded mediocre. XXhighend sounds AWESOME  clapping I have not yet thoroughly evaluated, but it is certainly something I am satisfied with and I have not even started tweaking yet. It is wonderful to actually be able to set up playlists.  yahoo I am not the most computer savvy and get considerable help from my son in law. So set up did not come easily to me.

I did have a few questions and you have probably answered them already. If you can direct me to approprite posts that would be great. First, What do the Q controls actually do and do you have some basic initial settings? I assume the double and quad settings are not needed when your DAC is already set at 176.4khz for example. Finally, any suggestions or comments you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
