Hi Peter,
SQ of the new Custom filter is more than excellent, even with my NOS1 non a (yet).
I am however experiencing ticks in the right channel on 705.6KHz samplerate. These are related to the level of the music playing.
The music sounds significantly more subtile on 705.6 than on 352.8KHz. Much more like my preferred v8e setup.
FWIW:with the latter sample rate there are no ticks.
Is this still work in progress or should I adjust some specific setting?

Our main reason to be there was, picking up a new NOS1a! Yes, we have it.
Later to day I will write my first impressions with it at home. It is not an upgraded NOS1! So I can not write about the upgrade. Sneak peek: It is good, even after just 1 day!

Clear, What I didn't tell explicitly (but I did tell it) is that when the full non-detrimental DSP it utilized, this can only work with external amplifiers. So now the internal filtering is replaced by the DSP module and *now* all is OK. So :
[DSP -> DAC (3ch)] -> Power Amp (3ch) -> Speaker drivers Bass/Mid/High (this for each speaker).
I missed the 'when' in the first sentence. A three (or six) channel Dac aha.. hmm, I see a new project in the cooking. regards, Coen |

Impressive and versatile as allways. At least that was one of the ideas behind the fourth amplifier in there.
Ok four amplifiers for a three way system? That might be one driving the entire system, one after the fm correction with digital eq for the bass, one after the fm eq an bp for the mid and one with fm an hp for the high frequencies? Another one of the riddles?!  Regards, Coen |

Unplug/Replug the USB cable ?
And if that does not help switch Off/On the DAC.
The latter usually helps when I encounter this error. The physical usb connection is rather sensitive, only toutching the wire may cause it. When I switch the NOS off I wait for a minute to repower it. A protective habit from the early PC days. Regards, Coen Regards, Coen |

Let me reemphasize the importance of FM curves. It is nice in a way Peter/Bert have made it happen. On the fly one can change the settings, long behold, flat frequency response actually sounds bad on most recordings. Dialing it around FM helps with a more meaningful recreation of the signal. Meaning, the way these speakers play music, one can easily say somethings wrong with the recording, hum .... manipulate the curve, and yes one can recreate the recording event.
The speakers, amps FM curves and crossover work quite seamlessly. The different permutations on the FM curves makes it a very powerful tool for plaback. This would be impossible in seperate or different speaker/amp matching, where there is only one result, which is not calibrated for.
And yes, I've yet to discuss "Bass"
To some extend this FM "correction" can be done in the digital domain too. This opens up the possibility of coupling the intensity of the FM correction to the volume control position... Not that this is my idea. Like many things we just have to look back a couple of decades for the great ideas (and poor execution). I've got old Philips tube amps form the late 50s and they all have a "physiological" volume control which intends to compensate at least the bass for FM. Actually the engineers of those days saw the tone control (Baxandall) and later the "loudness" button as a means to correct for FM rather than to compensate for the loudspeaker tonality or disco boosts. Quite crude and ineffective measures compared to the sophistication that the Orelo provides, yet a digital solution may hold even more potential. regards, Coen |

There is no substitute for square meters of loudspeaker surface when you're after a loud and low distortion bass. If you want it fast and clean you need an Open baffle (or giant horn), it looks like a natural evolution of speakerdesign.
Both loudspeakers probably cross over at 1.500 Hz or more with the little horn and ribbon (AMT?). There must be a compromise in the midrange. No doubt the field coils in the WvL will sound very fast and competent in the lower mids but keeping up to that high...

Thanks Peter, This opens the doorway to a giant leap in responsiveness! Ahum. Not that I thought about THAT.  Next up : An isolator for the PC mains ? Maybe the linear supply helps out here. That is, it is much less directly coupled to the mains with that nice filter called a transformer. Further down that road we could envision a relatively powerfull and very low power "pc" running on batteries being totally decoupled from the mains... Not totally scifi with the current enourmous research efforts in battery technology. A super low noise -solar charged- battery powered supply for the NOS1(b?) complement would create a completely mains independent system. Hmmm. I get carried away, one step at a time! Regards, Coen |

Besides the computer leaving a noise spectrum on the mains possibly disturbing the power amplifiers, I wondered if a SSD as OS Disk is now an option wrt maintaining the superb NOS1a SQ....
The potential speed increase may be worth the hassle of installing windows one more time.
