16  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Where do I login for Tidal services through XXHighend? on: November 09, 2019, 11:47:35 am
Bert, if I may:

We usually use 2 PC's: One, called 'AudioPC' and second called 'MusicPC'. MusicPC is intended as storage of our music collection and as control unit for AudioPC, using remote desktop connection (RDC).

In order to listen Tidal streams, we use MusicPC with another instance of XXHE, installed & activated. MusicPC is connected to internet and operates in normal Windows, not minimized.
XXHE is started on MusicPC as well and there you enter Tidal credentials. Beside that, you need to assign (create) some new folder where streams will be (temporary) downloaded.
On AudioPC (accessed via RDC) it is needed to point (instruct) the other ('main') instance of XXHE to look for that specific folder, created on already shared disks(s) where your music collection resides.
You are not streaming directly to AudioPC but to MusicPC and from there collecting Tidal content.

Think you still need to re-read instructions (photo help) on Tidal streaming. It will ease choosing where each info goes.

Hope it is a bit clearer what should be done.

Brgds,
George

Here's a short report of my playing with 'AudioPC' trying to replicate subject error: No success. XXHE starts normally.
I've uninstalled all unneeded Apps that came with W10 14393.0 using Settings + PowerShell + CleanMyPC sw and tried starting XXHE after each uninstalled app. Always normal start.
Did not touch Defender, think it is disabled by XXHE?

I'll be back home probably tomorrow and will do what Peter nicely summed up in his previous post: boot into normal OS and start uninstalling one by one 'App' until I get stuck with subject error. And report here of course. Last time solution to problem was simple: fresh W10 installation Happy
Since I've got new 14393.0 ISO file ('N' variance this time) I'm really planning to format disk and start all over again with it. Have enough cold white wine for light, Summer 'spritzer'  smile

Btw, here is small download tool that will help download any M$oft Windows ISO image you wish: https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-iso-download-tool

And to clarify a bit further - it is the same uninstalled app(lication) that causes subject error regardless of W10 build - same error exists in 14393.0 and 17134.48 (.81 as last update)

Hi Peter,

- If your PC is constantly on internet, it should update to 1803 (17134.48) as last update. Update to 1803 was on May 23rd: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4100403/windows-10-update-kb4100403
- I mentioned my case of inability to run (install) XXHE on AudioPC in this topic and is related to our e-mail conversation where I sent to you small screenshot of the same error like Robert's (my photo in this topic)
- Both of us, Robert and I, removed some of W10 built-in 'Apps' under Windows Features, like '3D' app, 'OneDrive' app and several others that are not audio related. It looks like removing one of them (hopefully one) somehow leads to inability to install XXHE - instalation complains "The specified module could not be found ..." ful text here: http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=4043.msg43325#msg43325

Hi Peter,

Think Robert already mentioned it is latest W10 update. And it is exactly the same thing that happened to my 14393.0 AudioPC: I have turned off (uninstalled) some of Win bloatware like 3D, OneDrive etc etc. I'm typing from some old W7 PC and cannot show list of 'Apps' however stopping or uninstalling one of them leads to 'missing component' error and inability to run/install XXHE.

George

Hi Peter,

If you remember our last e-mail corresp. - I had this very same error on my AudioPC (lost XXHE licence) under normal OS. Think it is not UAC (set to Low-Never Notify position) but rather something with disabling Win Defender and some functions in Action Center - I tried to stop security messages popping up every now and then Happy

Hi Robert,

A bit confusing info 'can't get it to load'. What you see when you start 'turn windows features on or off'? If you have black squares like this (see attached pic) under .NET section, you are good to continue with XXHE installation.

Hi Robert,

Just install & run XXHE as always. The only additional requirement for you could be adding .NET 3.5 and that's easy when your PC is connected to internet (Open 'Settings' and search for 'Turn windows features on or off')

George

...
Having said that ... I said it because I suddenly think of one other existing. In Serbia. It broke down on estimate 6 times in the first 6 months.
...

Ah, you are getting old. No more juli@, long, long time ago. But still, it is machine #13 so - nothing unusual Happy

Hi Peter,

Q:
If you purchase for example this 'USB3 Receptacle on Bracket" (not more than 5 euro) and connect it
on MoBo USB3 header, sound will be better than through 'Silverstone' PCI/USB3 extension card?

Thks & Brgds,

Might be interesting to try software I just learned about: It's called "Spacedesk" and is intended as network display on various devices.

29  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: What are these ._ files and how to get rid of them ? on: January 27, 2017, 12:28:38 pm
Files starting with "." (dot) are 'hidden' files (or directories) on Unix/Linux/Android and most probably OSX.
This files resemble me on 'Thumbs.db' in Win world - never understood why and when they are generated (not wanted to learn Happy)
30  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: XX to USB DAC on: January 18, 2017, 04:41:17 am
Hi Bert,

Peter will provide better answer fur sure but what I see, Chord Mojo uses ASIO drivers only and XXHE is built/intended for KS (Kernel Streaming) or
WASAPI (Windows 7-8-10 native audio protocol). Think you will not be able to use XXHE with Chord Mojo. In minOS, even WASAPI service is stopped.

George
