If only nobody makes the mistake to *use* the cache from the CD Rom drive. This is just *not* allowed with ripping audio ...

I will test it, and I hope to hear no difference. If yes, oh boy ........... .

Sh....t !!!   A ripping with the cache deactivated reveals a soundstage with more detail, more air, more darkness, less "dirt" and more silence in background.

They quote the slew rate as '330 nano seconds'. This means nothing to me... could someone help me out with understanding this figure (I'm sure it's very simple).

726  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: NOS1 first impression on: January 26, 2011, 11:41:01 pm
Hi Peter,
after some difficulties to get things run, the first four weeks are over.
The SQ of the NOS1 is in comparison to my € 3750,00 DAC astonishing. I had the same impression from the beginning, when I moved from a “wooden housing” speaker to a speaker with a full metal construction.
The NOS1 delivers so much additional informations I  have not heard before. The NOS1 offers  a big sound and has an exceptional resolution (the drums have now the accentuation as heard in a Jazz cellar) This DAC takes you to places you’ve never been before.
One of my reference recordings is “Dance of the Harlequin” from Vertu (Stanley Clarke +  Lenny White), the violin sounds like a violin with the typical resin sound, and Lenny White is working on his drums with brushes. This resolution and detail was new for me. (on some systems the violin sounds like a saw and you have to cut down the song) The bass from Stanley Clarke is amazing.
When I read Mani’s comparison between the Model Two and the NOS1 I have to agree in every detail. The NOS1 is a bargain and worth every cent.
The SQ with the NOS1 is lifting my audio chain to a higher level, which I believed was not possible.
The drums and the bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This DAC is a great audio component and with all the praise it is time for you to celebrate a big party in Spring at your “small home” in Oene.  You are responsible for the tent, the  meals and the “fluids” are by us. Happy Happy

727  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Phasure NOS 1 Questions on: January 09, 2011, 06:10:45 pm
Hello Peter,

I'm crying into a big towel since last night.

Explanations step by step

A) the first installation of the Julio@ to the PC was a piece of cake, VISTA recognized the PCIe bridge etc.
B) I had to disconnect  all cables from the PC for a  move in the room yesterday.
C) All cables connected again, the Juli@ card was not recognized. (Code 10)
D) Installed the PCIe card in the second socket of the motherboard. Same result.
E) Swichted from VISTA SP1 to W7 SP1 today. Same result.
F) Installed the PCIe card in the first socket again. Same result.

Now I'm back to Minerva and the magic is gone!

There are four possibilities for a malfunction:
1) Motherboard defect.
2) PCIe card defect.
3) Sound card in the NOS1 out of order.
4) DVI cable defect.

Any idea?

Don't placebo yourself by the exact 14 days which have passed for you today ...

Hello Peter,

4xArcPrediction has at present more timbre and body than 8xArcPrediction.

Yesterday I started my quest to digitise all my vinyl records.

Hello Mani,

may I know the equipment (brands) and software you are working with?

Thank you

730  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: NORWAY CALLING: NOS1 impressions from Pedal on: December 29, 2010, 11:14:59 am
Shortly put, the NOS1 provides so much recorded detail, that any plans of buying a vinyl turntable are hereby dead and buried. The NOS1 takes you to places where vinyl cannot reach.

Hi Pedal,

just made a comparison between NOS1 and vinyl (EMT 950) with a LP  from Miles Davis "Kind of Blue".

Vinyl replays the echo of the recording studio (especially the bass) superior, plays more emotional, cymbals sounds great.
The heights of the cymbals with the NOS1 are colder, more technical. The air between the instrument is more, so I miss the resonance of the bass. But I play with engine#3, and I will recheck with KS.

All this on a very, very high level. For a superior turntable you have to invest more than €25.000,00. The NOS1 costs much less, and a new turntable makes no sense.

Now it's time to let it break in a bit. yes
Works best without sound, 20 days in a row. no

Hi Peter,

it is not my intention to waste any time not to listen to this beautiful sound.

The 3D image, separation and timbre of the horns played by Miles Davis on "Sketches of Spain" was unheard before.

Gerry Mulligan was playing his saxophone live on "Take Five"  in my room. Unbelievable.

A wonderful time is coming with the increrase of the SQ during the break in.

Hi Peter,

bloody buttons in the Juli@ control panel !!!!!

First impressions.

Much more  detail, more fine resolution, more timbre, more darkness, more air between the instruments, less distortions.

The violin on the Vertu  CD in the tune “Dance of the Harlequin”  sounds magical. This is a real violin, full bodied and the right timbre.

You’ve done a great job.

733  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 9-Z3 on: December 03, 2010, 02:26:15 am
Mani,

XXHE sounds more musical, because you use SFS.ini=21 and larger SFS.

Hello,

you guys have really good ideas.
The SQ with the copied files to the RAM disc is superior.

Explanation for this phenomeon. Less jitter?

This is probably the biggest enigma to me...

Hello Marcin,

the streamer "Purist HDR6 DA" made by www.ami-hifi.de/ is using a RAM disc too, and it is for them an enigma also. They have no explanation for this effect.
