1  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Trouble installing Vista on: October 07, 2010, 11:02:45 pm
I checked BIOS and everything having to do with USB is Enabled.  What really puzzles me is that it's worked before and I don't recall changing any settings. Mouse and keyboard also work fine in Windows 7.  Hmmm...

So our experience is the same, only different!  I finally gave up and reinstalled Windows 7 which is working flawlessly.  However, I have a second (lesser) sound system with a Vista PC, and without doing any scientific testing, I can hear that the music seems more relaxed.  So just to torture myself I'm trying to reinstall Vista in my primary system.  Unfortunately it's not going well!  See my other post.  I've never had half as much trouble getting a new installation of an OS to work.
3  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Trouble installing Vista on: October 07, 2010, 10:33:15 pm
Windows 7 is installed and running fine on my PC, but I want to install Vista 64-bit.  When I boot off the Vista installation disk, Vista loads windows files fine, and then appears to boot Vista, but then when the next blue Vista screen (as opposed to the blue screen of death) comes up, it sits there for 5 minutes before finally bringing up the window where I'm supposed to specify my Language, etc.  The problem is, there's no mouse or keyboard so I'm stuck.  I know Vista has worked on this PC before because my copy of Windows 7 is an upgrade version so I had to have Vista installed on it first.  My mouse and keyboard are both USB.  Any idea what's wrong?
4  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Any idea why my DAC's not seeing HDCD data? on: October 07, 2010, 10:18:10 pm
Doh!  I was using Normalize Volume.  I turned it off and the HDCD light turned on.  Thank you, Peter.   This is in my second system with an old 16/44.1 HDCD DAC.  Should I let XXHE decode the HDCD if I want to use Normalize Volume?
5  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Any idea why my DAC's not seeing HDCD data? on: October 07, 2010, 09:34:27 pm
My DAC's not seeing HDCD data.  XXHE sees the same file as HDCD, and I don't have XXHE set to decode HDCD.  The same file played through JRMC turns my DAC's HDCD light on.  Any idea what's wrong?
6  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Could not find a part of the path... on: October 04, 2010, 07:08:17 pm
Yet another error now.  When I hit play or next track, I get the following error:

Error during saving Playlist : Could not find a part of the path
'X:\XXHighEnd-09-z2\XXData\!CurrentlyPlaying.PLXX'

I tried deleting and re-creating XXData.  I re-selected this directory in XXHE as the Data Folder.  I still have the problem.

Any suggestions?

Hi Peter,

I never heard sound from Vista/engine 3/hiFace.
The problem happens after I click play. The songs get greyed out one by one (slowly) and after track 7 nothing happens for a while and then the two messages pop up.
After that a long message and engine 3 stopped message.
It is unattended but still in the startup phase.
Hope this helps!
Back to engine 4 everything is normal.

Gerard,

Are you sure you don't get any sound at all?  When I try to use Engine 3, I get sound for about half a second, and then the sound stops and I get the TEMP ERROR B and BUFFER TOO LARGE errors.  The track keeps progressing though, but without sound.  My Q1 is set to 14 and all other Q's are at 0.  When I switch to Engine 4, it plays no problem.

Sorry… me again.  Well that was a waste of time.  I completely reinstalled Vista and I’m faced with all the same problems.  Every one of them.  The only good news is I’m listening to music again, only this time through J. River.  They have a pre-release version that has a new Wasapi-Event mode which sounds pretty good… better than I recall previous versions sounding.  Importantly, it worked right out of the box.  Now the question is: would it sound better on Windows 7 than Vista!

Life's better with a glass of Macon in my hand!  I've started re-installing Vista (again).  I was having so many problems, I figured I'd just start over.

I found the isanaloglibrary.ocx and isdigitallibrary.ocx files, put them in the appropriate folder, registered, unregistered, reinstalled XXHE but it still won't let me run as administrator.  When I run not as administrator, XXHE complains that I won't get good sound.  But I go ahead anyway.  Next I go to make sure that the output device is set.  I see HiFace is selected, not the KS: version, and the Engine is #3.  However, KS Mode and Buffer Size are not grayed-out.  I set device to KS:, and back to plain HiFace, and all  now appears right and ready to go. I hit play and I get TEMP ERROR B and BUFFER TOO LARGE.  The track appears to be playing anyway, but no sound.  It's only 3:54 in the afternoon, but I think cocktail hour will start early today!

I've been having issues getting XXHE to run on a re-installed Vista build.  I've made some progress, thanks to your help, but now I can't get it to run in administrator mode.  It gives me the old "XXHighEnd has stopped working" error.  I'm trying to follow the unregister steps above, but can't find isanalloglibrary.ocx or isdigitallibrary.ocx.  The closest I can find are Interop.isAnalogLibrary.dll and Interop.isDigitalLibrary.dll in the xxhighend-09-z2 folder.  Where might they be?

Sorry, Marcin_gps... Can you be a little more specific?

Thanks,
Dan

I'm still having the same problem with XXHE not working.  I uninstalled the .dll's which appears to have worked fine. I re-ran XXHE and the .dll's appeared to install fine, but then XXHE stopped working just as before with the following error message:

Description:
  Stopped working

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   CLR20r3
  Problem Signature 01:   xxhighend.exe
  Problem Signature 02:   1.0.3826.32428

  Problem Signature 09:   System.InvalidOperationException
  OS Version:   6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1

I have UAC turned off, and my account is set up as Administrator. I downloaded a fresh veresion of 09-z2.  I rebooted between unistalling the .dll's and re-installing them.  Have I missed a step or something.  Sorry if I'm being dense.

Why I didn't want to reinstall Vista.  unhappy

It hasn't been an easy process and now I'm stuck.  When I run XXHE, it imediately "stops working" with the following error

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   CLR20r3
  Problem Signature 01:   xxhighend.exe
  Problem Signature 02:   1.0.3826.32428

  Problem Signature 09:   System.InvalidOperationException

Any idea what's wrong?

Thanks,
Dan
