407  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: .9x-5---No Sound on: March 21, 2009, 10:57:21 am
After installing XXHD 0.9x-5 the same for me, no sound. The output setting for me is always Luidsprekers(Prodigy HD2). I am using a soundcard. I changed this setting one time and back to it's original setting to get the sound back.

Hi Peter,

.....on a track of 6 minutes sometimes two times a short brake in the sound and i hear the sound of the external harddisk spinning up and down. Strange because i thought that all the tracks were playing from the internal harddisk! (Copy to XX-drive by standard). I have changed this “Split file at size” setting back to 700MB. Why do I hear this external harddisk spinning up and down during playback?  [/i]

Today i have done some tests with the split file setting of 12 MB. It's difficult to reproduce this error. On the second track of Brian Eno (now plays capless) i can reproduce this behaviour of two or three breaks in the sound and the spinning of the external harddisk (I:). Maybe it has something to do when there are capless tracks and maybe the duration of more then 7 minutes?????

See attachments.
Drive I: is the external drive.
Drive D: is music route and data folder

I'll hope you can found a trace in the attachments.

Johan

Hi Peter,

.....you have a serious problem in your PC; Your processor seems to have difficulties with multitasking, and switching tasks in general.
Just recovered from a crashing systems, two harddisks problems, Network Media Tank frustrations .......you tell me i have a problem with mine HTPC Old

But now seriously. Your suggestion about the processor gave me the idea that it has something to do with the energy saving software "Cool & Quiet" from AMD. I'm using an AMD ATHLON 64 X2 3800+ (65W) dual core processor.  Compared to the E6600, price and consuming power is better. To get rid of the ventilation noise i am using a passive CPU cooler. Using "Cool & Quiet" lowers the CPU temperature. But it is dependent of your Vista Power Management settings. In mine case the setting was "Powersave" mode so the processor is running on 1MHz instead of 2MHz. Switching to a Balanced mode solves this gapless playback problem. (I am not sure if this switching is ok for the audio. But i need it to let the processor run in an save temperature range). So i hope you can optimise this processing time in the near future, so i can use this powersave setting again.

....other settings of Core Appointment help, and the best might be "No Appointment" as well as not setting the priorities ("Nothing") might help ....Shut off the Wallpaper,....

Before i changed the "Cool & Quiet" setting i have done some tests with the suggested settings. But these settings makes no difference! Still no capless playback.

Set the "Split files" at the minimum of 12MB

When i use this setting i get on a track of 6 minutes sometimes two times a short brake in the sound and i hear the sound of the external harddisk spinning up and down. Strange because i thought that all the tracks were playing from the internal harddisk! (Copy to XX-drive by standard). I have changed this “Split file at size” setting back to 700MB.   ....if it then too goes wrong. It may not, which also will tell me something.

In attended mode it still isn't capless (only when i ticked the 'mem' box!)

Hi Peter,

....but now with logging switched on and post (or send) both the XX and X3 files concerned ? In this case you MUST be able to hear the gap, or otherwise it is of no use.

See Attachments. two XX (the second one was made when i stopped XX during playback of the second track) and one X3 file

Can you post a graph of it (Performance -> Prestaties) which captures the playing over track boundaries and when you expect gapless while it is not ?

413  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Not starting at the beginning? on: February 28, 2009, 11:32:46 am
Sometimes i ends a listening session of an album with a pause command and select a new album. I have noticed that the track did not always start at the beginning of that new selected album. This "problem" is still in 09x-3.

Steps
1 start a track
2 after 20 seconds give a pause command
3 clear command to erase the playlist
4 select in the library a new album to the playlist area
5 progression indicator stays in the same (old) position
6 give the play command
7 track continues from the old place (album before)

I have the impression that after a clear command you need to reset the progression indicator or not.....its a choice..
414  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Capless playback in version 09w-3 (and 09x-3) on: February 28, 2009, 10:49:36 am
Still in version XX09x-3 i have a problem with capless playback behaviour. The only way to get capless playback is to mark the mem tick box. I was hoping that this new parameter "copying to XX ... " solves the problem. It's for me the solution to get rid of the sound of spinning up and down of the harddisk every track!
Now reading the tooltip of mem again and i see that "...you may even like the sound quality better when mem is ticked"

Conclusion mem tick box always ticked!?! (for gapless playback and soundquality)

What would that be for ?

Realtime Q adjustment?
Realtime adjustment for preset of different Q settings?
Wake from unattended to attended?
...
Rip function?

I prefer verdane too. Make the fontsize smaller and don't use italic for the trackname. Change the "back" topline in Artistname and the bottemline in albumyear and -name

Can't it be so that at such a moment the Library Area contains albums from one of your music disks (like I:\) instead of from the Gallery ?

No, the library is connected to the Gallery.

Select an album from the Library area
the traks are shown in the playlist-tab
Quits XX via the <OFF>-button
Start XX
Select the playlist area
Clear the playlist via <CLEAR>-button
Switch to the Library-tab
at the moment it takes 5 seconds

When you do this without quiting XX, it takes 1 sec to show the albums in the Library area.

......the "white screen" bug happens ...........

Sometimes after a "clear' command and a switch to the library area it takes a lot of time to show the library information. I have a black screen for 20 seconds.

The fontsize could be a lot smaller and starting one line higher.
Make the font and - size selectable i.e. 6 - 10

Please change the underline inicator for the actual track in bold, so i can see from a distance the progression of the tracks. (and make the font smaller and verdana)
