Hi Peter,

I have got a memory message this afthernoon after using XXHighEnd 0.9k the whole day. This has happened now for the third time I'm using XXHighEnd.

See attachment 1 "Memory" and  2 "Taakbeheer" 3 "Taakbeheer" after a reboot of the system. I am using this PC only for Audio (I know, you can see that the Internet Explorer is also active).

Hi Peter,

If you replace the XXEngine3.exe in your current folder with the one below in the zip, is everythig back to normal ?

After some listening this afternoon I still must conclude that I like 0.9j more than the 0.9k version. So the sound isn't back to 'normal'!

The j version shows more depth/space in the sound. k is more flat but also detailled. The sound of a piano *1 is more warmer, rounder in the k version. In the j version the piano sounds a littlebit more backwards and fresh. By the depth of the j version it sounds that there are more layers in the music.
I have listen to e.g. 1 Ahmad Jamal "Rossiter Road", Chick Corea "The ultimate Adventures", .......

Hi Peter,

During listening to the 0.9k version I have got two times a dotnet error message. See attachment. Music was still playing. I have not seen this error in any other version of XX.

Hello Peter,

Quote
In comparison the K version sound flatter with much less depth information and generally duller and rounder, unfocused. One of the strengths of J is a VERY good depth recital. I can hear like 10-20m into the sound-picture. Became edgy and disinterested after an hour of playback with K. J makes me relax and really enjoy the music and become involved.

Yesterday I had the idee to wrote for sunday mine impression of the 0.9k player. But today I have red the reaction of LydMekk and I recognise his impression. I prefere 0.9j above 0.9k

All instruments has there own role in the music and you can hear them all separately and very clear in the 09j version. The different layers in the sound are very clear and detailled. That gives a great involvement. During listening you can easy switch the focus to another instrument. In the 0.9k version its not asking for attention. It's more a search than a switch for detaills in the music.

I am missing the same impression in the 0.9d version.

I am using Vista engine#3. The Q1 slider is no option for me because I am using a DDDAC1543 that gives small cracks in the music when lowering the Q1 slider. Reversing fase did not change mine impression.

Johan

Hi Peter,

When I was listening to Erik Trufazz I got very loud cracks, .............When I switched the Inverted fase off, the cracks where gone. I have tested 0.9i-1 with the same result.

Still in 0.9k the Loud cracks!!!!

Other suggestions:
  • Memorizing the selected output;
  • Remote controle of XXHighEnd;
  • Layout suggestion, see attachment.

551  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: The magic about Qt (0.9i) on: August 14, 2007, 10:36:41 pm
Hi Peter,

After playing with 0.9i some remarks:

  • After lowering Q1 from 24, I hear small clicks/cracks in the sound (Inverted checked). Probably a DAC problem!?!
  • When I was listening to Erik Trufazz I got very loud cracks, almost on the rhythm of the sound (yes indeed, there are always a lot of cracks in his sound). When I switched the Inverted fase off, the cracks where gone. I have tested 0.9i-1 with the same result.
  • In the real version 0.9h I can play Trufazz without the loud cracks.
  • When activating the <play> button, the timescale disappears in the progression indicator.

Hi Peter,

........."Decent" means the some tracks (CDs) follow rules which make a very small portion of the beginning of a track disappear. This will be solved in due time.

So its correct that using Engine#3 with external (SATA) harddisk via USB2 gives (at the first cd I am playing) no capless playback? Small hickups are still there!

Johan

Hi Peter,

I thought you use SPDIF ?
You advised me to use the USB2 input on mine DAC! (signature changed)

.........it's even logical that this happens !
Good You be some more specific?

Hi Peter,

When the hickups happen, do you see the disk activity light flicker at the same time ?
Disk C: has no disk activity indicator!

Quote
........., does it change things when you use the front or the back ?
When I switched to another USB2 port or I connect a PS/2 mouse the problem is solved. What caused this problem? It is only present with Engine#3 and a specific USB2 port near the USB2 DAC connection.

Johan
