OK, thanks. I'll keep that to myself :D
122  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: My road to Ultra thin Vista build - must read on: October 27, 2010, 03:56:06 pm
Peter, are there any services other than I have running (see above) necessary for z3? I switched to slimmed W2008 and this time I'll check these tweaks and listen carefully one by one. I'm afraid that that the most crucial is IRQ affinity tool, however - the most difficult to handle and it could ruin SQ if used inappropriate...

SFS.ini = 11
SFS = ~200

Try these
124  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: What's the closest 'safe' distance from PC to DAC/AMP? on: October 26, 2010, 06:30:13 pm
I'm happy to inform you, that my cables are pretty much burned in, because they took my system level up. Wonderful products, but someone should have warned me that they sound horrible at first.

Cheers,
Marcin
125  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 9-Z3 on: October 26, 2010, 06:27:08 pm
My initial impressions are that higher values sounds better, fuller. Scheme-1 works better too, as Peter mentioned. Scheme-3 is too smooth at the moment, while Scheme-1 is more resolving and lifelike. I won't update my sig yet, want to experiment more with the settings.
126  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / How I enabled auto sample-rate switching and 88.2, 176.4kHz support in Cantatis! on: October 26, 2010, 04:15:26 pm
Guys from Cantatis finally gave me some valueable tip Happy I don't use their control panel, because it doesn't work in W2008 at all. I installed the drivers only. This is very simple tweak and for me - a life saver!!!

What you need to do is:

Search for the following registry keys in regedit:

VA_CPLAutoSR (set to 0 = no auto sample rate, 1 = auto sample rate)
VA_CPLSelectSR (set as follows, in hexadecimal, I set to 0x0e that is 192kHz):

0x00: 48 KHz (default)
0x01: 24 KHz
0x02: 12 KHz
0x03: 9.6 KHz
0x04: 32 KHz
0x05: 16 KHz
0x06: 8 KHz
0x07: 96 KHz
0x0E: 192 KHz
0x0f: 64 KHz
0x08: 44.1 KHz
0x09: 22.05 KHz
0x0A: 11.025 KHz
0x0B: 88.2 KHz
0x0C: 176.4 KHz

Now I don't have to change the damn thing every time I want to listen to some different sample rates stuff.

Enjoy!

Marcin
127  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: We all fell in the W7 pitfall on: October 26, 2010, 01:05:03 pm
But that has nothing to do with IdleEnable parameter (?) which gives 5 ms when set to 1.

Chriss, I still don't get it how did you calculate these values? Assuming that IdleEnable=1 equals 5ms.
129  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9 z3 on: October 26, 2010, 10:29:01 am
Thanks Happy
I have to ask one more time, is it possible for XXHE to automatically delete tracks that already were played from RAMdisk - XXHE directory? Even if not for unattended, this would be nice in attended mode.

PS
I sent you a PM Wink

Cheers,
Marcin
130  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9 z3 on: October 26, 2010, 02:53:01 am
OK, I can't resist sharing my feelings about SQ... The new version sounds 100% better than z2 :O
New SFS method works like a charm, we all liked Vista+Ramdisk combination, but this is truly amazing. I keep asking myself, how much better can the XXHE be in, let's say, 2 years? Happy

Peter, how someone with a touchscreen and no keyboard could benefit from "do not start playback + copy to xx drive" combo? Maybe lame question, but is it possible to assign AutoHotkey to a remote control somehow?
131  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9 z3 on: October 26, 2010, 02:36:06 am
Eric, Autohotkey must be enabled and you need to press Alt+P combination in order to start playback. I thought it would be automatically, but it's much easier than fully manual process anyway.
132  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 0.9 z3 on: October 26, 2010, 01:56:25 am
HI,

It's time to start a new thread. I won't say anything about SQ yet. I can only say it's good Happy
BUt now back to the software:
1. Did I understood right, that 'do no start playback' and 'copy to xx drive' work only with a hotkey enabled and I need to press Alt+p in order to start playback?
EDIT - yep, it seems that Autohotkey is needed.

2. AI for 96 and 192kHz only doesn't work. (with 16/44kHz tracks, which used to work before)

Great work Peter... Happy

Cheers,
Marcin
133  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: We all fell in the W7 pitfall on: October 26, 2010, 12:47:55 am
Chriss, I'm sorry but could you provide some source of that information? I mean the values and adequate polling rates. There are only two values possible for IdleEnable parameter - 0 or 1, AFAIK...
134  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: What's the closest 'safe' distance from PC to DAC/AMP? on: October 24, 2010, 08:41:05 pm
I know that shorter ICs are better, but you know, I'm using PCI sound card as a DAC and I don't think that my amplifier benefits from such a close PC presence. The cables sounded terrible at first, but after 2 days of continuos playback, things are getting better, but I think (hope) that it's a long way of improvements Happy

I dont think Peter will put the new version soon, because they put too many new ideas in his head!

Yep, maybe it's a good thing, I'll get a chance to experiment with W2008, before z3 is released Happy

Hi Guys,

I got new cables - Vovox Initio (2x power cords, IC and speaker cables). The thing is that the IC is very short (0,5m), I haven't thought this through before purchasing, but 0,5m is probably limiting SQ or the cables need more time to burn in as I heard from my friend. What are your experiences in this area?

Cheers,
Marcin

PS
Is it just me or you too refresh the site a lot during this weekend after Peter announced that z-3 is coming in the weekend?  unsure
