In XXHighEnd directory.
212  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9z Install problems - SOLVED on: October 01, 2010, 11:53:57 pm
Oh boy, the problem is solved and I know what's wrong. I went back to 0.9z and it worked fine, then I cleaned that directory and installed 0.9z2 in place of 0.9z - error again. Then I looked in 0.9z archive and compare that archive to 0.9z3 directory and found 2 missing files:

isAnalogLibrary.ocx
isDigitalLibrary.ocx

I assume that these should be right there after Phasure OCX install is passed, but not in this case. So I copied those files and everything is ok now Happy Thanks for your help.

UAC = OFF (tried on and off again - the same)
start as administrator - checked (always run XXHE this way)

I'll install 'the most important updates' via windows update and see than - over 100...

I remember having similar problem before, but somehow I managed to solve it.
214  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9z Install problems on: October 01, 2010, 09:52:47 pm
Same sh*t again  no
Although, I have a clue - maybe it's related to folder attributes, because I somehow can't untick read-only...
215  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9z Install problems on: October 01, 2010, 08:41:46 pm
Yes, it passed. I tried to remove it and install again - nothing changes, still the same error brrrrr Sad

Different folders won't work either.
216  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: We all fell in the W7 pitfall on: October 01, 2010, 08:15:57 pm
Peter, we're home  Happy The best word to describe the difference between sound in W7 is, like you your wife said - zero agressiveness. The sound is rich, I can play very loud and enjoy it very much, though it's 0.9y-8c and no upsampling. I guess I'll have to encourage guys from Cantatis to add 88.2 and 176kHz sample rates to sound card control panel - it's not there now and they claim that Vista doesn't support these frequencies (or they can't handle to enable them).

Here is the problem details I should have left with my last message.

Description:
  Stopped working

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   CLR20r3
  Problem Signature 01:   xxhighend.exe
  Problem Signature 02:   1.0.3797.34912
  Problem Signature 03:   4bfc1621
  Problem Signature 04:   XXHighEnd
  Problem Signature 05:   1.0.3797.34912
  Problem Signature 06:   4bfc1621
  Problem Signature 07:   2985
  Problem Signature 08:   106
  Problem Signature 09:   System.InvalidOperationException
  OS Version:   6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.2

Got back to Vista and can't run .9z2 - I get the above error. I have all necessary NET libraries, latest dx, tried removing config file - it doesn't work! Funny thing, because 0.9y8 works fine and sounds better (than optimized W7 + 0.9z2)  Happy

Thermalright makes the best heatsinks, capable of fanless cooling. I used HR-01 Plus, now I have Ultra Extreme True Copper - almost 2kg of weight!! But the latter one is designed to use with fan, as copper doesn't spread heat as good as alluminum. Copper conducts heat better. but works best with a fan. Anyway, I currently got rid of all fans in my PC - including the one on CPU and the one in PSU. And eventhough copper doesn't work the best in fanless configurations, I get 40*C max during heavy load (CPU is underclocked to 1.6GHz and set as dual core). My next music server will utilise Thermalright HR-02, the successor of HR-01 - currently the best heatsink for passive cooling. The other heatsinks worth mentioning are:
- Cogage MST-140
- Prolimatech Samuel 17

But if you want the best performance, Thermalright is the way.

I'd go with discrete GPU and Sandy Bridge ready motherboard. There are few models available now that will support next Core CPUs from Intel.

OK, so I'll install x86 and x64 version of Vista on my SSD (fresh) and make some A/B tests with sound card drivers and XXHE installed only - no 3rd party software, default OS settings, same XXHE settings for both systems. I'll keep you posted

Peter, do you think that there could be difference between 32 and 64-bit OS? (in terms of SQ, of course)
222  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: We all fell in the W7 pitfall on: October 01, 2010, 11:24:52 am
Again - 32 or 64bit Vista? I'm already excited Happy

PS
I prefer Brok Export instead of Zywiec  smile
223  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: We all fell in the W7 pitfall on: October 01, 2010, 10:46:12 am
Peter, are you sure it's not placebo? Are you using the new PC now? Is the OS optimized? Could this be driver related? 32 or 64-bit Vista?

Cheers,
Marcin

PS
I'm trying Vista today  Grin
224  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Re: A WARNING about SSD's ... on: September 30, 2010, 08:51:36 am
Peter, I'm very sorry to hear that  unhappy Especially that you've done so much work last days and the new versions was almost ready. I never keep important stuff on system drive, regardless if it is HDD or SSD. And if I do, I keep a backup, that I bet you will also have once you set up the new PC Happy

Good luck!
Marcin
225  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Split file size and volume on: September 30, 2010, 08:45:33 am
I ordered a new mobo and nice i7, so tomorrow that should be up and running...

I'd be interested in knowing whether your preferred SFS values come down with a more powerful CPU.

Oh, and welcome to the modern world!

Mani.

Peter said, that his DAC is totally resistant to PC Tongue Joke, we know that sth is going on on a software side rather. I personally don't believe in speed/robustness corelation to SFS value.
