Quick update and SQ changed for sure! Has it?
362  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SQ of 0.9z on: June 01, 2010, 03:00:37 pm
It's all system dependent. E.g. my amp has a little laid back mids and I think that special version adds colour in this range, but I don't like general presence of Special mode, especially top end. Like you said - adaptive feels organic and that's what I like about it.

PS
I've been experimenting a lot with hardware recently, I connected second PSU to 4PIN socket, which feeds CPU mostly, and connected drives to it as well. My primary, better PSU, feeds only 24PIN socket. Very nice improvement! I think I'm gonna try linear PSU

Ok ... and when this happens, did XXHighEnd come up automatically after Unattended playback ?
It should ... (after some 15 seconds or so).

It pops with the window telling me to set up a library. I don't use that, like total commander + drag & drop

So it will forever and ever ask you for this. Better make a dummy folder and point it to there.
Btw, you are missing 95% of the functionality now ... yes

Total Commander is functional too, but I'm gonna switch to XXHE library once I will handle missing covers Happy

Another tiny bug; mouse scroll doesn't work in the settings area.

Something very weird just happened. I've been listening to Diary of Dreams album when suddenly the sound disappeared. OK, I start XXHE again, push stop and play again - nothing. Looking for process in task manager, nothing strange. I change the sample rate, try to play a test tone in playback devices properties - dead silence. Quick restart, hit play in XXHE and get horrible distrortions followed by To many buffer errors window.

I just experienced a similar situation.

I had an album playing in UNattended mode and it completed OK. 5 or so minutes later I went to queue up a fresh album, hit PLAY, and when the GUI disappeared a flash of a error message appeared, but happened so quick I was unable to read it. Thereafter I was greeted with silence. No coverart or anything was forthcoming. ALT-X'ed back to GUI and tried again with similar results. Tried same album in attended mode and still silence. Went into control panel but couldn't even produce test tones from "Sounds" applet.

So whatever happened during initial error, it mangled the resident audio driver code. A quick reboot and everything back to normal again.

Couldn't find anything amiss amongst the system logs either which might have identified that error message.

Will continue to monitor.

Cheers,

Russ

This situation happened few times and it always occurs when playlist ends in unattended mode and I don't bring up XXHE again shortly after last songs ends.

Plus I have auto rate switching, which is not available in Vista/7 at the moment.

Peter, guys, is there any difference in Kernel Streaming protocols on different operational systems? I think about dedicated PC for audio and my system of choice would be highly optimized XP. From my experience XP offers lowest latency capabilities. Anyone using XXHE on XP?

I think it plays at those rates Happy Could you give me a link to these beta drivers?

EDIT
Ok, got it

Good sound is back again, I guess. I've found the best settings from a system/XXHE side, but lowest buffer size is still 2048. I have no idea, how it worked at 1024, never mind... Now it's time for further hardware improvements and tweaks:

- second PSU
- HDDs out with external power connected via eSATA
- kuroutoshikou no-pci cards (http://www.kuroutoshikou.com/products/etc/no-pci+fset.html http://www.kuroutoshikou.com/products/etc/no-pci-express.html http://www.kuroutoshikou.com/products/etc/no-pci.html)
- linear PSU (maybe)
- good power cable and socket outlet

etc

Delete the following and restart player
- !Played.plxx
- !CurrentlyPlaying.plxx

previous post was before restarting XXHE, sorry about that

I've been experimenting with it on my other PC without problems, but you're right - have to be careful with these things.

Hurray - it worked!  Happy

Playlist disappears when I switch from unattended to attended mode. I have to add tracks again.

I think this is my confusion, which actually must be yours. Happy
There is no such thing as switching from Unattended to Attended, unless you mean "bringing up XX during Unattended playback". Do you ?

That's exactly what I do and my tracks disappear while I'm bringing back the window.

No error, but my tracks are still gone.

Another error occured while playing hdcd (I guess someone mentioned that before...) Here is a nice screenshot.
