Did anyone try tweaking systemresponsiveness value in regedit?

Quote
If SystemResponsiveness is set to 100 (default in Server 2008), it means that all processes are given a higher priority than multimedia. In Windows Vista the default value is 20.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile]
"SystemResponsiveness"=dword:00000014

I like it very much Peter! Adaptive mode Q1=1, buffer size=128. I like it so much, that I'll probably give up from CMP on dedicated server.
438  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHIGHEND-M2TECH-WIN XP on: February 19, 2010, 02:43:41 pm
You don't have to open files through cmp. Click "explore", install JRiver Media CEnter and set for external software -> cPlay. This is the best combo in terms of SQ and convenience, period.

PS
I suggest you run DPC Latency checker at your machines and write it here. Mine shows constant 2-3 us.
439  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 9Y-6 special mode on: February 16, 2010, 02:39:15 am
OK, I switched to XP on other PC and it works just fine at 24/96 regardless output method.

PS
Q1 parameter at -4 sounds really bad on XP... Thin, flat, liveless, digital. I assume that dedicated server, just for music playback doesn't need any additional "latency corrections" or whatever Q1 is responsible for, only Peter knows. I prepared pure xp installation in nLite,  without most services and other "cr*p". It weighs only 100MB and is preoptimized. IMHO it is crucial NOT to install any other drivers but sound card. Once you install vga drivers you can forget about a decent sound. What I'm hearing now from my dedicated audio server is unbelieveable. XXHighEnd on w7 engine 3 or 4, doesn't play half as good as cMP². To be perfectly honest, everything else is really bad compared to cMP². Peter, keep working on "the timings"

It's my opinion based on my system and preferences Happy For me, your settings sound too smooth. For jazz and classics great, for rock - not specially.

ENDPOINT CREATE FAILED

You left out the most important : that sequence of numbers which follows in a message. But, also tell exactly what you are trying to play when the message accordingly shows (don't forget to mention Double etc.).

I'm trying to play 24/96 wav. I try one more time later and give you info about the numbers

With my M-Audio Audiophile USB I am able to adjust the latency. Marcin, are you able to do the same?

By setting it to its lowest point I am now able to set q1 to 1, though special mode still doesn't appear in the X3PB file. Below that I get distortion. Yesterday, without realizing, the latency was at the highest setting and I had to set Q1 to 7.

I am able to play 24/96 here with no problem.

Okay, not being too techy, I have only skimmed through the posts about latency and buffer size cause, until now, kernel streaming just sounded wrong. It now sounds quite wonderful but very different from engine 3 (I still need more time to work through "preferences"). So could someone breifly explain what it is about latency, buffer size and sound quality that I just don't really understand. I guess I could go back and try to figure it out, but a brief explanation might be easier.....  Happy Thanks.

In my M-Audio Transit the buffer size in drivers options doesn't affect KS a all. The lowest Q1 setting for KS is at 3 for me. Lower I get distortions.

Peter, I don't know if that helps you, but Empirical Audio Offramp Turbo is basically modified M-audio Transit. In previous version it even used m-audio drivers. As far as I know Steve from Empirical Audio replaced this with driverless firmware from CEntrance.

ENDPOINT CREATE FAILED -> The DAC does not accept this byte sequence;
Try switching DAC Needs from 32 to 24 (or the other way around)

and then I get "Device cannot play"

Tried 32 and 24, either way is the same. DAC is 24bits 96kHz
Note, that ASIO works flawless at 24/96...

BTW, I'm back to Q1=3, Q2,Q3,Q4,Q5=0
With manisandher's settings (Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4/Q5 = 3/9/15/5/10) it plays muffled, without energy and proper attack. Also the soundstage is withdrew. Even my girlfriend says so :D It is good for someone who uses very bright systems, with metallic, harsh highs. That would definatelly help to smooth the sound. It works similar to audiophile power cords and cables, but if you need true imaging, I'd stay with Q2,Q3,Q4,Q5 at 0.
444  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 9Y-6 special mode on: February 14, 2010, 11:35:35 am
I can't get special mode with my M-Audio Transit (USB, TAS1020B). The lowest Q1 setting without cracks is at 3. Also I can't play KS/WASAPI at 24/96, but that's in every player - M-Audio drivers suck!

Peter, I can't wait to hear this revelations your're talking about, espacially that my new speakers are coming  Happy

I can get 'special mode' Happy...

... but it's all distorted unhappy

It's now 1:30am and I think I've found the optimum setting (for my system). Are you ready for this? It's: Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4/Q5 = 3/9/15/5/10!!!

Don't even ask how many permutations I've been through to get here...

The caveat it that with this setting, sometimes I get 'special mode'... and the requisite distortion...

BUT... sometimes I get 'normal mode'... and such, such sweet music love

I'm happy... and very tired... but not too tired for just one more tune!

Ciao,
Mani.

Sweet mother of all that's good and pure - pure music, no fatigue!
It's kind of annoying first if you used to listen to "digital", bu then it's vivid, detailed. I'am listening to Jacintha - Lush Life [JVC XRCD] and can't get enough. Vocals, trumpet, like I'd be live at concert.
447  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Windows7 ? hmm ... maybe not ! on: February 02, 2010, 10:33:39 pm
For me and my soundcard, Win7 wins, but I blame m-audio drivers. I couldn't get decent latencies on Vista and XP, even highly tuned (nLite, vLite). On the other hand, I find the sound of "Seven" less digital/harsh, but as I said - could be specific on my system.
448  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9y-5.03: XXEngine3.exe won't stop on: January 26, 2010, 11:55:55 am
Let me put it this way - I don't want to leave unattended for some reasons, maybe I'll explain it later Happy It's just easier for me to kill the process instead going back to UI.
449  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9y-5.03: XXEngine3.exe won't stop on: January 26, 2010, 01:17:35 am
OK, I mean can't kill process from Task manager Wink (used my own explanation instead of proper name, sorry)

I saw that topic about Q1 parameter. For me, default value (Q1=14) is very smooth and less fatiguing. However, lower values deliver more details. The sound becomes faster and *brighter*.
KS on the other hand gives rather flat sound, but it's only first impression after going from Engine3. Actually it is natural and more detailed than Engine3, but it isn't so smoothed out, which is a good thing, because it reminds live music.

Oh, and I don't have any problems running my Transit at Q1=-4, unless there are some other issues beside latency that I should be worrying about...

I'm glad that I finally registered here. Hope to have some interesting discussions with you guys!

450  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 9y-5.03: XXEngine3.exe won't stop on: January 25, 2010, 11:48:12 pm
Hi,

I've been using XXHighEnd for some time now. I've tried a bunch of other players but here I get to hear real SQ and thank you for that Peter  Happy Don't know how you do it and what exactly do Q1 parameter, unattended etc, but it sounds great. (by the way, could you give me a link to a topic that clears that up, if there is any?)
Anyway, I switched to Engine4 and the new version of XXHighend and noticed that I can't stop XXEngine3.exe from process explorer level. How can I do this? I'd have stayed with 5-00, but it won't play with my M-Audio Transit over KS.

Many thanks for help

Greets,
Marcin
