Not that I know of, athough it seems to derive from logic (of the posts). It *is* true though that in my situation the only thing which can be connected to PE is the PC, while that measures better. So can indeed is must - in my situation.

In my situation isolating both sides of the USB card is a no go... you should hear the noise when I turn on my TL lights!

 Happy new year !

Best situation would then be to NOT isolate the USB card in the PC but DO isolate the USB wire inside the NOS which  seems the best compromise for me...

Keep the noise in the PC and lead it directly to PE from there.

By the way, when you still mention the "power supply", even if all works fine since I disconnected (and isolated) the black wire, you are not talking about the 2 toroidal power supplies right ? This shows my total lack of knowledge about electronics...

As far as I understand it should be this wire (coming from USB ground) and not the mains ground you might refer too.

See picture.

Peter, correct me if I am wrong!

Bert, Peter, I'm surprised at you, taking the piss out of a fellow countryman...

I am not sure what you are talking about... I only gave a serious reaction to his attempts and took a piss at W8.

We are not all thinking like you Jack! innocent
124  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Volume Normalisation on: January 24, 2014, 01:30:09 pm
Sorry for the too long story.

I am used to that...  Happy

Another one related... if the normalisation was interrupted (user or fault) will it check for already normalised albums?

125  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Volume Normalisation on: January 24, 2014, 10:30:07 am
Hey Peter,

I wanted to normalise some selected music overnight but it did not work out as expected. I received an error and the process stopped and waited until I click on OK...

This means that I have to monitor the process and have to click the message before it proceeds.

Any idea how it can show me the errors on a created list and skip that track/album without stopping the progress?

But only Windows 7 is in the list.  unhappy

At least you have something working after a new installation... good to know that it is possible to install W7 with an active W8 OS.

With some luck W7 will be the better choice anyhow and you've got rid of W8 as a bonus!

127  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SQ of 1.186, best ever! (Again) on: January 02, 2014, 08:18:09 pm
I sense more speed, more "tone" to the cymbals and a sense of presence, "Analog" like I never heard before.

I could not agree more (!) the best ever! No more music scattered in little pieces jumping from all over the place.

SFS 0.4 is for me the limit, going lower and things start to break up again loosing the transparency and freedom of sound. I am not going to touch any settings, it feels like having my tube amplifier back again but then without their faults!  Happy

Nice one Peter!

128  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Red Letters on: January 01, 2014, 07:53:01 pm
My letters stayed blue all the time also. Even after going into minimised (not possible when not activated(?) and still blue.

From the past I remember something about showing covers when playing (red borders at unattended) so I did turn that option to work and after playing XX returned with red letters...

I guess my old activation might have worked anyhow but I have got a new one thinking I was wrong with the old codes before I thought about the wallpaper.

It might not be related anyhow but for me it seemed to work out that way.

When I upgrade Windows then it is always a fresh install ...  Happy

Still it is good to know that Windows 8.1 is good to go

Okay then, thanks to all for trying and report back!

I will update to W8.1 in the next few days. Peter, expect a new Activation Request soon ...

It's my understanding that BD-Design no longer makes the amp.

Hey Bolary,

Glad to read that you like what you hear. Welcome to the club!  Happy

I still make the amps but use them primarily in my active systems (like the Orelo or Orelino), I do not have a commercial stand alone amplifier on the market as such.

In case of interest I still make them (on order only) with several options available.

See it as a custom built amp (single, stereo, quad, bridged or not, etc.) using the Gain Clone principle ...  Wink

But might you have referred to general "switching" (like from light switches or anything) now not being audible anymore - I don't think so. This is all ground loop stuff or lack thereof (remember our dishwasher story while one of the XLR pins was not connected ?).

It always made noise when I turned on the big light in my room (12 TL tubes). The moment the transformer was connected in "series" that noise stopped.

Perhaps more things were changed at the same time (that's me!) but that noise was gone.

The dishwasher was just having NO ground at all (floating) and that is acting as one major antenna picking up things out of the air, not the mains.

We will figure it out soon enough...
133  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: Investigating a full linear PSU for the XXHE PC and NOS1 on: October 30, 2013, 01:54:11 pm
Now let me see ...

So with my good senses (which may be worth nothing in the first place) I say that this is all about spitting back in the mains. So, I get myself such a transformer plus a couple of fuses and resistors plus some sort of cabinet and my issue of concern is solved ?

Hmm ...

I can take it with me next time I visit? Easy to take out and for you easy to measure the "differences"?

Connect a PC and "see" what happens at both ends of the transformer?

So, can anyone tell me how such an "isolation" transformer would isolate any back fired spikes and such ?
IOW I don't believe that.

It removes spikes generated by switches (transformer connected to isolate the audio equipment) so something get's lost in there! ;-)

135  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: Isolating transformer might help? on: October 30, 2013, 11:17:54 am

BTW, never use these type transformers to connect your amplifiers too. It is tempting but it makes the sound dull...

...unless it is a HUGE one. ;-)

Just use it to keep your own mains clean(er) by not adding.

NOTE The internal earth shield is one very effective part of this transformer...
