...is that the way it should work?

Only when I click [Apply] in the settings menu makes things "heat up".

I can only check if this is working like this in attended mode, unattended makes my "tools" dissapear.

Nothing to do with music but more clear how sensitive people are to situations that are not natural.

Absolute phase is one, having the left and right channels exchanged (both still in the same phase...) is another one (even if you've never heard the recording before, still sounds different!) and to come back to my topic is when you exchange the left and right image... try it if you have something that shows 3D (shutter glasses or special 3D displays), your world will be upside down when you look at the wrong combination.

This clearly shows how the brain CAN'T be fooled if your reference is accurate. The same with audio...

PS Hi Bert (if I may)

You may... finally someone who does understand the difference between sucking and blowing!

Problem is that 90% or even more of the recordings are not acurate phased as those 90% of the recording technicians do not have a clue...

BTW, for me both directions are okay, whatever she prefers!   prankster

PS, is the MINI still available to loose some stress?

Hey Bert - what settings were you using in Win 8?

Hi Paul,

I used SFS=2 with the first trials and did not liked it, changing it to 430 (Peter's suggestion) seemed to make things better (sweeter, less digital) but the basic "error" was still in there.

In W7 all is clear and alive sounding, more real.

215  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Back to W7 SFS=2 on: January 28, 2013, 10:02:22 pm
Listened for a while to W8 and although it does some things nicer it also makes things "boring" and flattisch with a "greyish" layer on top of everything. Bitstream?

At least all those things mentioned dissapeared when I played W7 again and that is more to my liking. Perhaps more rough according to some but to my ears not unnatural and very acceptable if present.

I can't determine whether you now like this Yello track or not !

Liking the track? Not really (from a musical point of view)  but the effects and extra detail are as you described.

Even in stereo!  whistle

You may try "Planet Dada [Flamboyant]" from Yello. This is pretty close to that "bouncing ball" (??) from Aphex Twin suddenly. If you now don't recognize more detail, then I don't know (not that you denied it, but how to ever justify this difference).

This was the most "annoying" Q-sound experience ever...

Never heard the sound coming around me so close this way, at some moments even as if my ears plopped or got confused by some absolute anti-phase signals, almost like wearing a headphone!

I must try Amused to Death! ;-)

The Yello track sounds very dynamic or should I say LOUD on the high frequency peaks, almost too much as it is easy to set the volume a lot higher than usual without having the feeling that it will get too loud which it does anyway.

Do I make sense here?

Under W8 it compares as totally dull and 1 meter of blankets.

Absolutely not dull!

Tried SFS=430 here and this sounds a lot more right than SFS=2 which just sounded plain nasty and flatties (remembers me those switching amps we've tested some time ago).

Somehow I got stuck with SFS=2 on W8 and went back to W7 using the same settings which was a lot more listenable but now with W8 its just more music and less annoying...

Thanks! ;-)

ChangeWP.exe (version XXHighEnd-09-z8d-x) has been classified by HitmanPro as a Trojan.

Hi Eric,

I see no warnings here (not using HitmanPro either) using Microsoft Security Essentials as scanner (Office PC, nothing to protect my Music PC).

No weird messages here and hardly any ticks when playing with the updated XX-files... Cool

But what about ticking or otherwise like I described it. Do you hear that as well ? Or *can* you hear that, now knowing what I hear ?

I hear several different things excactly the same (your settings or mine did not change anything).

I always start to play using the same track, killing engine 3 and starting over does not change anything here.

The noises I get:

1) At start before the music starts I hear the static "tack" which could probably be prevented by using different settings. The same tack after a while when PA engages...

2) At the moment the track starts to play I hear crackling static noise for a brief moment (hardly as loud as the initiating "tack").

3) When the music starts (the flute) then the skipping sound appears (louder when the signal gets louder and not in the rythm of the music).

4) At the parts being more silent there is always some other noise present too (very soft crackling noise not in the rythm of the music but softer than at the start of the track).

The other sounds you describe is something I have to listen for in a moment and hear if I can find the same as you hear.

Is this with logging being Off ?

Yep and for what it is worth, FLAC or WAV gives the same "skipping".

BTW, here it is a Flac file, not sure if that has anything to do with this...

It solves the ticks occurring from format changes.

Hi Peter,

The new engine did not cure the ticks I hear. Repeatable track is "Bill Miller -Reservation Road (track 1)" which you have within your collection. Attended, unattended, volume settings and such does not remove this added "skipping noise". The only thing that changes is to increase SFS from 2 to about 12 as minimum, then the flute does not "stutter" anymore.

I hope this one helps...  Wink

Bert, all,

Please post issues in a separate topic for it or otherwise I will loose track.

If next issues arise then I will put that in another topic... Promise!

Figured out the problem. It seems that the option "Do not start playback" was activated. If Alt-P is not used then I can wait forever...

Stupidly this option does not affect attented playback hence the confusion... :-)

Bert

PS the first notes sound very promising! Very clean, sweet and spacious!
