However, as I suspected, the alloy jacket is indeed connected to pin 1.

It is because I fucked up and know how this issue can be fixed.

Could be but don't know if it helps with noise though, all was dead silent here (97dB speakers) but I do not use balanced cables (RCA).

PE is in the amps nowhere connected to the signal ground, I do not want dirty mains earth on my signal.

In my system the only mains earth (thick wire and very low resistance earth) is connected to the PC to get the dirt out from there to earth as quickly as possible without giving it a change to find another path to follow.

I'll hold off making any detailed comments until I've had a good listen. But I'll just say that until today, the Magtech was easily the best amp I'd ever heard with the Quads. And the BD-Design amps are in the same league at the very least.

Indeed you should wait a little and have the amps burn in for a few days...especially those BG's need to settle down to show their true potential.  Happy

Glad to read that the amps arrived in one piece!

It seems to me that the "preamp section" (the mid-high amp in my situation) can be fed with XLR, while the bass amp behind it can be normally SE. Am I right ?

No problem as long as the opposite leg of the XLR input is showing the same input impedance to the source. or use a line transformer to do that but I think that you do not want those in your signal path anymore...  Wink

PS: You are providing DC Offset meters in there of course ?

If the source is already having this equipped then why needing another? Besides that, the servo regulation cancels your DC on the input up to 15mV at least so hopefully it stays below that, otherwise the amp needs an input capacitor (Mani's amps are fully DC-coupled now).

Bert

Correction after reading back in time where I assume you are referring to the voltage drop at high power? Tests with 180Watt did not show any weird things so it is of no use to have those DC Offset meters with these amps.

Did you ever hear the difference between a regulated power supply and one that just delivers at the moment when asked without holding back?

Didn't I mention the overkill used for the Power Supply with 500VA transformers and about 85.000uF per channel?

By the way, about switching on/off the dac, I really donīt know what to do at the end of a day/listening session because Iīm afraid to those big bumps in the speakers when the PC is turned off. I donīt like to turn off the amps, nor the NOS1, theyīre always on, but maybe I could turn off the PC if I could avoid the bumps.

Hello Juan,

I occasionally heard a sharp pulse (like a capacitor quickly discharging sound) when the upgrade was still fresh but the last weeks I have not heard it at all....

Depending on the total gain of your system this pulse is very strong or nothing to worry about.

If you do not use a pre-amplifier (volume regulated through XX) and your normal playback volume is higher than say -30dB then I think there should not be any problem (unless your main amp is unstable or DC-coupled).

Perhaps you have an old set of speakers/drivers laying around having the same sensitivity which you can give a try to see what happens?

Better be sure and happy (knowing what to do) than insecure all the time...

Your raving reviews sound really great. It makes me want to join the club as soon as possible Happy

You should... ;-)

I exchanged my NOS1 for the NOS1 USB 2 weeks ago... good

I'm finding that if I connect the PC case to ground (using one of the ground wires in my 'star' ground arrangement, itself connected to a clean, totally isolated and ultra-low impedance earth) I get a phenomenal improvement in SQ.

Interesting... wasn't your PC connected to ground/earth before?

I sent you the manual via mail to the contact you have in your web site.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply!

I have seen that document before but it seems impossible for me to find it back here... wacko

Hi Peter,

Where can I find specifications of the NOS1?

At this point I am mainly interested in the output (RCA and XLR).

Thanks,

Bert

Btw, this too will be about (inside cap) resonance ...

Indeed, a capacitor should not resonate or vibrate (internally by the signal or externally by mechanical resonances) as this affects the sound.

This does not mean that it can't sound nicer though...

I have the same problem.  unhappy

It will only work as part of the system itself (inside the PC) and installing the drive under full functioning Windows.

Disk Manager will be the tool to make it work (formatting GTP et all).

BTW, never remove a drive when it is reading or writing...

I agree and thus spikes are only good for bass enclosures (loudspeakers).

For overall improvement such rubber feet can be better but to my experience is real decoupling the best compromise.

The bearings I use have a resonance frequency below 2Hz and thus of no negative influence...

SSC is a nice way to do things too...  Wink

And indeed, not so easy to apply on this case ...

I use decoupling bearings for some time already which is not a problem using three of them with 2 at the right side (under the transformer and the front) and the one in the middle of the left "leg". Very stable (for resonances) and cleaner sound (less "noise") as result.

Does your Disk Management still show the GTP partiion ?

Also, does everything still work after a reboot ?

Yes, and yes.

Several reboots were needed anyhow for checking the drive under XP and XX for playing minimised.

Installing and formatting the drive only works (Disk Management) when the OS is not minimised though...

Good luck,

Bert

Okay, all data transferred going behond the 2TB limit without an issue. After that I've copied an extra directory to the HDD to be sure it is in the +2TB area and played music from there. No issues whatsoever...

Never had a problem with the 3TB RAID0 drives either but only using my 64-bit Windows configuration.

My other partition in the same PC (32bits XP) does not recognise and does not show the RAID or 3TB drive at all...

I was merely wondering whether anybody had it normally running. And then outside of RAID because that will matter (different drivers).

So, anybody ?

I just put a 3TB drive in the PC, Windows recognized the drive and installed the drivers for it and after that I formatted the disk up to the full 3TB (actually 2.72TB).

No problems so far, all seems to go well and smoothly.

At this moment the drive is filling with data (making a copy of the 2x 1.5TB RAID0 I have used before to store music), these 1.5TB drives can then be used elsewhere being compatible with other PC's and such.

I will have to wait until all is done and data has passed the 2TB border to be sure all is still okay.

Heat and noise is not an issue inside my PC (sound shielded and proper airflow to keep things cool).

If things fail or not, I will report back.
