316  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: No sound after returning from stand-by? on: September 15, 2011, 01:47:46 pm
This is a (commonly known, in general I mean) problem since Vista. So, I always let it run ...

Okay, understood. It is a common problem but I do not want to waste the energy...

PS: Recovering from it (the standby) is slower than a cold boot. Maybe that helps ?

No, it does not help but perhaps you could enlighten me by telling me that this problem will not occur with the NOS1 through USB?

317  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / No sound after returning from stand-by? on: September 15, 2011, 09:07:01 am
Hi Peter,

I would like to have the PC running (ie on stand-by when not used) but once it went to sleep I can't get any sound without rebooting.

I can prevent it from going to sleep but then the remaining activity while I am not around is only consuming energy and to me this seems a waste...

Any ideas? Perhaps it will not be a problem after the USB upgrade?

.. which is a good thing!  Happy

No extra's that should not be there, no stressing artifacts making things annoying and giving me thoughts to do something else (walking the dogs, watching a movie, etc.)

After a few hours listening last night it now sounds interesting enough and making me curious about more music again.

Before some music sounded great, some music sounded not interesting and some music even sounded annoying forcing me to turn down the volume (which still does not work properly making it frustrating...) but now I am not so in a rush to turn down the volume and can hear it out.

I am back in the game again not being sorry to have bought the NOS1 and using XXHighend again.

Thanks for giving me back the music!

Bert

PS I wonder what the USB upgrade will bring me on top of that...  Wink

To me it seems that you presented two different settings-situations in your screenshots. One with "Don't do anything with Coverart at all", and one with that not active (the first picture). It will be your attempt of getting things the way you want, but now the last picture doesn't say much, were it for (OSD) content of the screen.

I had the same situation which comes from previous Coverart Settings. if you would uncheck "Don't do anything with Coverart at all" and after that unchecking the various cover art settings things will work as intended when you check "Don't do anything with Coverart at all" again.

Aren't hours and minutes separated by a colon anyway? not a .

It's 4:20 here.

Yes, but Windows doesn't like a colon to be used hence the choice for a dot...

...wouldn't it be easier to simply rename those track names to something like "01 - 4-30 AM etc etc" , "02 - 4-33 AM etc etc" and so on ?

Probably yes...

Given that Peter hasn't noticed the issue before, not anyone else here mention it, suggests it is a rare occurrence and one best handled by the user themselves.

That's for Peter to decide I guess and being a perfectionist, wouldn't it be nice to be able to tackle the issue. At least that is what I would do...

(but we call that a dot I think Happy)

Indeed it is a dot but it looks like a comma in XX (probably the used font) hence the confusion.

Hi Peter,

Not sure if I will see it in the future but now I do and it is annoying to watch. Not sure if this was mentioned before but if, then sorry for the reminder.

See picture.

In the mean time I'm using a very convenient capable digital file player...

I love convenient but only if it sounds good....which player are you using in the mean time?

Bert, if that fails you will get a new one. No problem (as you know).

I know that...  thankyou I just do not want to bother you with my "user" problems.

Hopefully giving you more time to get me in line sooner for a major hardware update!

make a backup of your activation code file in your XXHE folder and keep the name of your computer the same when you reinstall Windows

Will do, thanks for the tip!

I never applied (and apply) *any* upgrade.

Okay, then the quickest way to work would be to re-install (clean partition) W7 without any updates. At least until all is working well (meaning XX and related things).

Uninstalling all previous updates will take forever!

This means that I'll loose my activation (again) or is there an easy way to prevent that from happening?

I could spend hours reading back trying to find the answer but perhaps it is on topic to ask here and you know the answer from the top of your head?

Hey Bert, I don't really know. Maybe there's a lot more to all this than meets the eye.

Probably but still, if only a few cables different than their own can make the amp fry then there is seriously something wrong with the basic design of the amplifier.

Filters as used in those MIT or their own interconnects should then be used inside the amplifier if you ask me...

But perhaps then technical figures look a lot worse to impress?

I do not want to be negative but do correct me if I am wrong...

Some of the highest bandwidth amps around are from Spectral. Now, Spectral are totally adamant that you need to use a Spectral preamp and Spectral/MIT interconnects with their power amps. The warranty is void if you do not do this.

In other words the amp is not stable where the least thingy at the input makes it fry itself?

So filters are needed to protect the amp so why not put it inside the amp (as most manufacturers do) giving people free choice to use anything they want around it?

Do these amps have a CE certficate?  unsure

I am not a technical expert but isn't filtering (no matter where applied) always reducing the Slew Rate seen at the speaker terminals?
