I assume you can see hidden files ? (yes)

Yes, not there...

It was actually copied...  Happy

But you may have a look at this file : C:\Users\BD\Downloads\XXHighEnd-09-z4-1\XXRequestPending.dat and see what is wrong with it.
Don't bash around, but carefully look and tell me. It looks like some rights problem, but I can't be sure.

Thanks!

I tried to find that file but it is not there...it is created and then deleted before I could grab it?

I will install XX elsewhere and change the Hotkey settings accordenly, try again and give feedback about the changes...

Half an hour later....installed XX on (moved the directory to...) the root of C: and nothing changed, the behaviour is the same...

With services still on does not change anything...volume remains the same.

Find logs attached...

I'd say : blame the under the hood startup of XXHighEnd (see before post).

Ah, okay...this indeed delays things and apparently also where things go wrong (my system).

I can see XX start in the background (taskmanager) and then dissapears again (takes a second) but that is all the activity I see for a long time (minutes!) unless I give another command and XX starts again in the background but this time stays there until I OK the error message that comes up after a while telling me that there is something wrong with a remote command...

But one thing should be clear : your Hotkeys just work.

Yes, they actually do! But why are they in unattended mode not as responsive as in attended mode?

But are you saying that with Attended it doesn't work with a small SFS at all ?

Meaning the higher settings only...lower values speed up things for both situations.

Removing priorities does not change anything, at least I do not notice any differences.

Which version do you use to compare/check? The developer or the release version?
352  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHighEnd Model 0.9z-4-1 problems on: March 16, 2011, 01:26:09 pm
Now please don't complain with me that it doesn't work for you, because this just works for me on a very moderate system, and it does within one second (SFS 240).

With an SFS of 2 then it works within one second (unattended). At attended it also works within one second but then with a SFS of 240, 300..... but not the other way around.

And that is with a system higher than moderate (but playing FLAC files slowing it a bit down again).

Do you find XX unstable?

Yes, I just tried Hotkey again and it (first time ever!) responded to Alt-D... but it went from -9dB (too loud!) to a whopping +4.5dB (!!!) and that starting playing unattended with the initial volume set to -21dB. Nice...

With Alt-S (Alt-Q does not work) I can stop the player (Quitting XX is what is atually does).

Similar destructive (complete different thing though) is that the quality of the sound gets worse after a while if you use Volume Normalisation and only a reboot can cure that. This is the reason why I am trying to use Hotkey (I need to be able to adjust the volume) but that does not work at all playing unattended (it works a lot better in attended mode but then still not all according to the list).

Are there more people using Hotkeys? Is that working out well for you?

There are more features in XX which I never used and do not "dare" to use or touch being afraid for what might happen forcing me to reboot the PC again. I just want to listen to the music (only optimal quality of course) but then without the fuzz or is that too much to asked for?

€1300 for a mobo and processor is a lot, of course. But if it leads to a dramatic improvement in SQ, I'll be signing up for one.

I do not care about the 1.300 Euro, I just think the priorities should be elswhere...?

Hahaha, let's say you can save this money each half year of waiting for that. I won't say that you'll get rich over that, but eventually it will get you a new car.

At least somebody seems to have fun...

And onnnnn this mater ... This time I took some serious time to get myself a new "PC". So, for people orienting on a new one, maybe wait a little. I did not order it myself yet, but it should contain everything and all for, well, a new stratgy. It will set you back for some 1300 euros for a mobo/processor alone, but then you'll have something which ... nobody has. Promise !
If now only my theories work ...

Peter

I recently bought a new PC already so I'd rather wait for a more user friendly and stable player and not spending another 1.300 Euro...

Everybody seems very happy with the sound already (me included) and therefore other things need an update first...?

I still have problems with those Hotkey commands but I guess I am the only one?

356  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: I say NO to SSD for music playback. on: March 09, 2011, 03:24:26 pm

Why a 2,5 and not a 3,5? And which model you have?

It was the only high RPM I could find that could be fitted into my system but suited me well anyhow making less noise than the 3,5" drives usually do. I can't hear it spin... ;-)

Its a WD VelociRaptor IcePack 150GB, 10Krpm, 16MB, SATA2 (I could get the 300GB for a little more but I do not need the extra space and SATA3 is not an option).

At the moment I dont feel like changing anything. My SSD stays in the game! Never change a winning team  Happy

Well, I exchanged my SSD for a 10.000RPM WD 2,5" HDD from where the speed is acceptable but for most, it sounds better to my ears (less artificial being more black than grey without losing any information..).

I cloned the SSD and listened to both using the same settings (disconnected the Sata cable and power from the other disc simulating it was out of the system).

Now the SSD is permanently out of the system (its a dedicated PC for audio only). Never tried with the SSD still connected to the system though (it confuses the boot sequence being a cloned disc) but I could format the SSD and plug it in. I do not think it will make the sound any different anyhow though as nothing is linked to the disc making it active in the background...  dntknw

Cheers,

Bert

Really curious what Bert comes up with with his SSD/HDD test.

That will take a few weeks as my present system to review the difference (I'll need some basic reference first) is not completed yet...

If somebody can clone its install on a SSD it would be very nice to compare thereafter (easybcd is then needed to give you boot access to both).

I am going to do that anyhow but not now... (see original post).

Easybcd is downloaded, thanks for the hint. Seems VERY useable for multi-booting people...  Happy

360  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / W7 x64 SP1 booting from 2,5" 80GB HDD on: January 10, 2011, 05:31:01 pm
I am not sure what did bring the biggest improvement but W7 x64 SP1 does do a whole lot of good things I am hearing but I also moved from my Vertex 2 SSD to a slooooowww 2,5" 80GB HDD I had laying around at the same time.

At Peter's place I heard the improvement in dynamical terms, full bodyness and clarity (Vista x86 vs W7 x64 SP1) which changes I also hear at my place but I have it somehow sweeter without lacking information or making things dull. Coming from W7 x86 SP1 on the Vertex 120GB disk which (from memory) made the sound more "flat (hoarse)", "empty (no body)" and "compressed (almost digitised)"...

I am not sure if it is only going from 32 bits to 64 bits makes this major difference, perhaps the slooooow booting drive has more to do with this? The NOS1 is also burning in slowly and I am fiddeling with all the settings...

Within a few weeks (when the NOS1 is properly burned-in) I will make an image of the internal disk and copy that to the Vertex and compare again. This way ALL will be the same except for the drive where the OS is booting from. Once change I am sure I will notice and that is a ultra quick boot (still missing that!!) compared to that little drive.
