376  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Version 9m-1....wow! on: October 11, 2007, 11:32:33 am
Are you guys saying 0.9m-1 improves on 0.9m cause Peter reckoned they should sound the same. dntknw dntknw

Hi Chris,

All version before the "m", 9m or 9m-1 is the same except that the -1 version does not stop playing.

377  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Version 9m-1....wow! on: October 10, 2007, 11:06:46 pm
Not just that it is non-stop playing now (finally!) but mostly for the perceived quality improvements over the previous versions...

There was always some sort of layer on top of the sound, something making the sound less natural and more "dynamic" (edgy?) than the music actually was. Hardly to imaging if you did not listen to this latest version but now the apparent layer is completely gone opening the sound, showing the real details and a lot more of them too!

Cymbals do not sound more "metallical" than they should, applause on live recordings do not hit the ears (even showing a bigger crowd than I was used before).

Less noise and a lot more music shining through  yes

I would be amazed if you can find more improvements than what you have today.  thankyou

I resized the screen, but I don't see anything I'm not used to ...

Vertically changed the size too (height)?

Would you care to post a screen copy of that ? (the full window of XX please).
[/quote]

The Path "window" moves up or down when changing the height of XX, no need for a screendump. Just make XX higher and you will see yourself...

Seems to work...  Wink

Too "drunk" and tired to listen seriously though...  innocent

Hi Peter,

When all settings were made according to your post and the new checkbox is checked and it is playing does this mean that it is working on my PC? Or should I change the processor(s) settings too.

All settings were already set the way you mention though, I only needed to check the checkbox.

I do have an Intel Core 2 6300 processor (showing 2 of them) but not an E-type or Duo (as far as I can see) and have no clue about hypertrading and such...

Moving tracks within the playlist to another position shows an error (all the time). It moves the track well though...

Start printing photo's ... then you'll get the grasp of it.

I have no intention to print the cover arts as photo's on paper. So why is this related to XX showing my cover arts larger on screen at moments I like to see them enlarged (500x500 pixels) with high quality and still sharp?

In the end I don't bother because the cover will display as large as it is told, but since you would be very close to the 1:1 physical size, it would IMO be better to make it the real physical size (coming close to 12x12cm at 96dpi). Make it bigger and the scanner will extrapolate (or at it being bigger, interpolate, whatever).

My covers are 200DPI but still 500x500 pixels and that is what my screen is built on.....pixels, regardless the resolotion used.

Any program shows these pictures when 100% using 500x500 pixels on my screen, should not be an issue which resolution is used. With plain text yes, then the resolution counts...

Btw, the slider Q1, is it only working in Engine #3 in Vista? Neither the no. 1 or 2 gives access to it, e.g. it doesn't move.

You should go to Vista (upgrade version used as dual boot perhaps?) as this (Engine #3) wipes the floor with XP on all aspects...

Basically all extra's (like the Q-setting) only work on Engine #3 (Vista).

  • Only folder.jpg files are supported for coverart currently. This should be folder.jpeg as well.

Regarding the cover art it would be nice to be able to stretch the player even more so that I can show the cover art larger than possible now. Most of my jpg's are 500x500 pixels...and it would look nice if all not needed information could be hided behind one of the tabs (more space left for the cover art and playlist.

I only need to see the real player functions like Play, Pause, Next, Previous, Stop and the playlist menu, the rest is just a one time setting or doesn't work (not implemented yet)...

The UnDemo tab (or any other "useless") one can be removed too after the player is activated.

A version 1.0 should look finished or clean (all shown functions should at least work properly).

Btw, note that the message that Engine#3 did not start in the expected time appears 60 seconds after the first attempt. This is inconsistent with the 9 seconds mentioned earlier, but the 60 seconds is there because there can be other reasons for a wait time longer than 9 seconds, not related to your problem. So this is just background informattion.

I have that message rather often lately...no idea when this happens either (random as I can't repeat it on the same playlist)

Congratulations Peter....never heard a digital source sounding soooooo smooth without loosing any detail and without adding any edges.

Another reason to crank up the volume a bit more...  Wink

When I try to change to realtime (no matter what program) Vista tells me it is not allowed. "Set to High instead".

Sidenote : I had it all build in, and had to remove it because it just did not work. Here ... Sad

Hi Peter,

Realtime works on my PC too (and #3 is running like that but it has to be changed for each track manually...)

So, build it in again for the PC's where it does work...  Wink

390  Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / Re: Horn resonance example on: August 13, 2007, 01:45:57 am
Here is an example of frontloaded horn resonance, most probably not in all horns expressing the same, hence at the same frequencies, but it should count for the Orphean horns, still somewhat depending on the xover filter used.

Important : This is not about expressing anomalies in front loaded horns (if at all) but merely to show that resonance-like anomalies can be attacked just by software and that they are incurred by jitter and thereof derived harmonic distortions.

First you talk about a front horn causing resonances, the next sentence you talk about the opposite....?  wacko

As of this writing, it is implied that you are running version 0.9h or earlier, so now you should try version 0.9i (or higher).
Run Engine#3, leave Invert Off, and set Q1 (Quality Level 1) to 4 (when something goes really wrong set it higher as close as possible).

Ehhhh....version 0.9i? Quality Levels?

Try to upload the new version first...  Wink
