Speeding up the PC does not make any difference...

For my system the SFS has to be set to 0.5 being the only way to have error-less playback without ticks and gaps.

The PC sounds a whole lot better when slowed down again as well.  Happy

But why is it suddenly bothering you ? I mean, I never heard you about this.

Not suddenly but starting to get frustrated about it (including the little tick in between tracks).

All problems gone now with SFS set to 0.5

Are you using a RAMDisk for playback ? you should as it is crucial for the "network performance" !

Yes, I am using ImDisk for XX and another one as Playback drive.

Playing directly from the internal SSD (instead of the NAS) did not make any difference so the NAS is not too slow either.

Will check the BIOS for possible settings to improve the performance...

I will try a CD directly from the internal SSD to see if that matters...

Nope, exactly the same... minimal SFS 0.5 to prevent "skipping" or "gapping".

Not any silence that I know of. Or ?

Silence (audible gap) and a tick where the music should have been gapless without tick.

With SFS set to 0.5 no errors appear (visible nor audible) and not even a tick anymore...

Buffers set to 2ms (USB) and 12ms (ASIO) or 16ms vs 32ms does not change anything. USB buffer set to 1ms does not work... only noise and errors flying around.

Bert

Is this PC speed related or is the 80Mb/s NAS not quick enough? The longer the track the sooner the error... seems to be related to too little time to complete a task.

I will try a CD directly from the internal SSD to see if that matters...

Changing USB buffer or ASIO buffer does not change anything...

In the meantime I had to set the SFS value higher to 0.5 because larger tracks still gave errors at 0.4

Just to see whether it matters, can you try with a higher SFS and a different Buffer setting in the NOS1 Driver Control Panel ?

Changing FSF helps... at this moment SFS 0.4 (instead of 0.1) does not give hick ups anymore (didn't try values in between but 0.3 is too low).

Will try to see if changing the buffer helps as well or makes it worse again.

Bert

Does this means the memory is too slow or the PC? I can speed it up as it is now all minimal (800Mhz)

Gapless.. that's the word! ;-)

Examples:

Eryk ah Badu - Baduizm Live & Pink Flyod - The Wall (Gold Disc)...

It is not skipping a track but skipping a buffer (?) with an audible "tick" as well...

See image...

Hi Peter,

I am listening more live recorded CD's these days which are split up in separated tracks during ripping. Using Foobar things play smoothly as one large track, XX adds a pause between tracks...  unhappy

How can I prevent this? In the very beginning (5 years back?) this was an issue but solved for a while...

Is it a setting?

Also I leave W10 Services On

That's different... turned them ON too and see what happens or not!  Happy

I was just kicked out again so changing the date did not help... took a long time though and for the first time playing (probably unrelated) unattended again.

Still playing and no way to shut it down remotely...  unhappy

I have had this problem recently and in my case it seemed to be related to the date.

Perhaps too soon but since I have set the date on the music PC one day back it did not happen again. Windows 10074 was always reset to someday last year after each reboot which was the only difference I could figure out.

Perhaps the time on the music PC was one minute ahead or at least not the exact date as the main PC controlling the music through RDC..

If it kicks out again then I'll be back with a notification that I am still searching...  innocent

Could it stand for NOS1 "barebone" ? Maybe Bert will squeeze the NOS1a in the PC case, eliminating the need for a USB cable Wink

The other way around would almost be possible before... my PC is only 26 x 24 x 8cm with plenty of room available for the Barbone Intona PCB  Happy

WTF ! What is in a name... NOSa75b or... ? Thank you !

... not built-in yet using a standard cable from PC to Intona and Clarixa to the NOS1b for the moment.

Counting errors the other way around and counting nothing now.

Plans are to built this Barebone Intona (just the PCB without plastic enclosure) into the PC directly and soldered to the USB input directly and use the output with a single cable towards the DAC.

I will place the PCB inside the PC first (with cables connected) to hear if that changes anything before making things final.

No idea when this is going to happen though... floating in the air as it is connected now sounds already awesome!  Happy

Playing about 6dB louder too (according to the settings) but it does not sound any louder than before? Weird...

... that is, I have no idea why this happens.

Since last week I have updated my Music PC with a clean Windows 10856.0 and a fresh XX 2.04a installation.

Besides common installation quirks I always encounter with such an upgrade/update it appeared to work like a charme except for one annoying situation and that is losing my RDC connection with the Music PC... the only way to get that back is to turn the PC off (luckily I can do that by pushing the on/off button) and pushed again to start booting.

Tried everything (as far as I can tell) but stil I am losing this connection from time to time without getting any clue what could cause this...

Luckily I do not have OS-RAM which then would take ages to reboot... it takes me now less than 10 seconds to have things up and running again but still, I just hate the need and to walk to the PC for the reboot once in a while.

Anybody else having a similar problem or is it just me getting frustrated here? It looks like the PC is going into Hibernate but it can't or going to sleep which it can't either because all power saving settings are not activated...

Any suggestions?

Bert
