Hi All,

I have a dilemma, I'm building a new music PC which doesn't have an SPDIF-out on the mother board.  I have two DACs that need SPDIF but I also have two that will drive from USB.  The reason for SPDIF then is to get to 18 bits and hear some of the differences in XX options.  The question is how to get the SPDIF, through a sound card or USB adaptor?  Having read the threads on each there isn't a definitive answer for either but the Juli@ and Hi-Face would be contenders.

This of course is just until Peter releases his own solution   Nice

So maybe I'm better saving the money and staying with USB until that (distant  Wink ) day?

What do you think?

Thanks,
Brian

Well, internal souncards have always better latency, so i would go with one of those. Consider wordclock input if your dac has.

he Brian,

If you want to use Coaxial SPdif you have to mod the juli@,
The Hiface is standard coaxial, with either RCA or BNC
These cards are indeed the best cards in that price range, for you a not so expensive solution, untill NOS1 arrives.
As you know for NOS1, its finished when its finished !? Wink

Thanks Chaps,

I think the sound card is the way to go in the mean time so that I can play with the XX options and the card mod possibilities.   Happy

The only DAC I have with wordclock is DEQ2496, so perhaps I should mod the analogue out of this first as it has a optical S/PDIF input which my pc motherboard already has ... decisions, decisions.... scratching

Did you follow a walkthrough to do that or just figure it out yourself?

I have a juli@ and need to use the digital out, however I do not like the looks of the digital coax out on the breakaway cable, really seems like it could be a concern in terms of quality.  I have heard that lots of people modify their juli@ with a direct BNC out or digital coax out, but cannot find any info on it.  The picture you posted is the first I have seen.
Can you post a link to where you got the info to do that, or if anyone else knows where to find info to mod a juli@ with a bnc or better digital coax than that supplied on the breakout cable, it would be much appreciated.
