Hi,

I do like the idea of programs without an "installation" - back in the old years of computing all programs where like that, and as long as there is good reason (like shared libraries), that should be the path more programs should follow.

Nevertheless I failed to get anything working.

I am building a music server (or, more correctly: music client) pc from:
- an Intel miniITX D945GSEJT board with an Atom processor and 2GB memory
- a smaller (40GB) SSD for the operating system
- Windows Vista

After installing all updates for Vista (in several iterations) I installed XXHighEnd 0.9y-8 and EAC 0.99. I ripped some tracks with EAC including Album information from freedb to FLAC files.

When I then start XXHighEnd and press the "Search" button in the library with the correct music root folder, I get an explorer-like view of the titles on the left pane, and the XXHighEnd logo in the library windows with the Directory name under it and a black background.

I cannot find any way to play the tracks. When I choose "Open" from the context menu of the left pane, Windows tries to open the default player, wich is currently undefined.

Other weird things happen das I tried to find any context menu entry or setting to get something to play, including program crashes, e.g. during the "glitch" execution, or overlaying of two tooltips

I suspect that XXHighEnd may not be build for Atom processors?

Maybe someone can answer that before I invest more time.

Thanks,
Udo.

Hi there Udo - let me try to help you ...

Quote
and the XXHighEnd logo in the library windows with the Directory name under it and a black background.

This is correct, and the logo (actually an X for "nothing") tells that no coverart was found with the particular album (which will be in the directory you mentioned). Now :

Click that "coverart" picture (hence select it) and click Load. Now in the Playlist Area the tracks will appear.

Another means would be to drag tracks from normal Explorer (or a complete folder) onto the Playlist Area.

There are several more means, but this should get you going.
Of course click Play now (on a first selected track).

The Atom is suitable, but it should be a dual core actually. A hypertheading will work also, but not as good.
With a normal single core you will be experiencing problems at the preprocessing needed (XXHighEnd is a memory player).

Associating XXHighEnd with music files will never work (at least not now) because indeed there is no Install. So forget about that at this moment.

Let me know if this helped you.
Peter

PS: Notice the context menu (rightclick) on many objects, like that "coverart" (the X in your case).

Hi Peter,

thank you for your help. The "Load" button was probably the only one I did not try because it was totally clear to me that "Load" is the opposite of "Save" and therefore refers to saved playlists...

I can play titles now. The Atom N270 obviously has two core (at least there are two Usage-Panes in Taskmanager).

Nevertheless, there any many questions (e.g. What conditions must be met so that the cover art is being displayed? I tried several options during ripping with EAC (with subdirs and witout, with ID3 and without), but did not succeed) which I think many new users have, and I guess you have better things to do as to answer the same questions over and over again.

So isn't there a kind of manual? I searched the forums of course, which are very helpful, but do not have any "red line"-path for a beginner in the computer music.

Thanks again,
Udo.

Hi Udo,

A big welcome to the promised land of highend digital playback  Wink My first rule: Don't give up. Next: Have a look at this guide if you have not already seen it.

http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=833.0

EDIT: I also fighted the problem not being able to get cover art at the left side which both have to do with me ripping wav files and not having a folder.jpg with coverart in the album directory - and the directory structure as such. And please don't feel embarrassed if you do not understand and use all the fancy stuff right away. I am still not using galleries in XXHE after 2 years....

Good luck.
