I don't know whether it is sotware or driver issue, but I've found a rule, how to make QAP playback possible where it's normally not with Engine 4 and low buffer settings (1024 and lower). I checked it multiple times on 2 PCs and 2 audio interfaces. The thing is, that every time I reboot, I have to play native 192 track before I start QAP listening session. Otherwise I get horrible distortions and 'to many buffer errors' message. I would like to emphasize that it happens with Cantatis Overture (PCI) and M-Audio Transit (USB), so 2 completely different devices and drivers. Peter, what do you think about it?

Also, anyone having trobles with quad arc prediction playback is welcome to try my approach. I am curious about the results.

Marcin,

Try to look for differences before and after the 192 playback in TaskManager. When you see a difference in the CPU graph, look for the cause in Resource Monitor (before and after !, while the "cause" will be about bfefore !!). Specifically, look for "deferred interrupts".

Also (and to better get to the real merits of this) notice that your 192 is a kind of apples and oranges with 4x AP which will be about 176.4.
So, try to find a 176.4 file, or use some "4x" with a result of 192. Notice that you could try Anti Imaging Filtering and denote "96/192KHz only" (Settings Area) ... *if* you are able to play this long enough in the first place (solved in 0.9z-2 btw, which isn't far away now).

Alternatively, you could use 4x Anti Image (upon 16/44.1), and grab the UnicodeTrack0001.wav file (might be hidden) from your XX folder. Not the Unicode0001a.wav ! Place that somewhere else, and rename it to abc.wav or something, and drag that onto XX again. Now you have a native 24/176.4 file ...

The same is with 'hi-rez' upsampled to 192kHz. I'll take a look in Resource Monitor as you advised.

Peter, I did what you proposed and the results are following:

1) After reboot, I run XXHE and try to play 48kHz track upsampled to 192kHz with QAP. After few seconds of clicks and pops 'playback' stops with 'to many buffer errors'

2) Then I open XXHE again, this time I play native 192kHz track without upsampling, other settings like buffer size, split size, priorities etc are the same as previously. Playback is flawless.

3) Finally I try to play the same track as I selected in the first place with QAP again. No pops or clicks occur. Thank you for attention.

Marcin, thank you. But I'm afraid I can't do much with it. Maybe you can imagine that when you show the bottom of an activity list you show the least important part. Besides you show it when the damage has been done (looking at the graphs, the time axis and (e.g.) "XXEngine3 has terminated").
Besides all, I don't think this will work anyway, because it is too dynamical. As I told (although wrongly yes, in terms of "deferred interrupts"), concentrate on "Deferred Procedure Calls". Or otherwise anything else as the cause for a differrent Graph. That is, if they are different in the first place. And notice that you can only start observing after playback (sound) has started.

Again, showing these pictures to me most probably won't help; you must interpret them yourself.
Ok, once you found what makes the difference, you can of course show *that*. But don't try to leave it up to me, because it can't work.

Peter

PS: I guess you did, but did you try to whether there is a difference with just starting an 48KHz for the second time (so, exactly (at) the same (time) as you otherwise would start a 192KHz) ?

Yes, I tried 100 times, it doesn't work. I have to play native 192kHz track first, then everything works. I don't think that I'll be able to do sth about it, because there is not much I could do, since there is nothing installed except for sound card drivers and XXHE. I've tried:
- different PCs!
- different drivers
- different PCI slots
- different PCI latency timer settings
- OS optimizations (background services, programs, win32separaion, irq8priority and many others)
- and of course different XXHE versions

What else do you suggest? I could try upgrading the firmware in my sound card, maybe that will do.

Peter, I'm afraid that I won't be able to tell you why I wasn't able to play QAP before, but you know what? I decided on a 'hardcore' solution, that is flashing my sound card with Prodigy 7.1 hifi firmware and use its drivers. Who said  sth about problems with QAP?  whistle
Now I'm able to play QAP with 48 samples and I don't have to start native hi-rez material first. But life can't be easy and, as usual, I get rid of one problem, http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=983.msg11895#msg11895
