Peter, Few questions. 1: Can you explain further about the On\Off thing. You wrote about it but it is not quit clear enough. If i remember correct you also mention it in relation with te warranty. I alway's turn everything off just for my good feeling that is. (Fire when i am not home or in bed) Does the Off setting harm the dac? Meaning are parts warn out sooner? 2: When i push the On\Off button Off the red light next to the connector stay's on. Not quit as bright as when the button is on but still the light is red. 3: The latency in the Julia Console is at 256 at the moment. Is that the correct setting? what do you use? Thanx  |

That is, it is not allowed to switch off the DAC when the PC is still On. You can perfectly boot the PC without the DAC being On though. Anyway ... what you see from the red light is the small voltage which is on the PCIe buss. This is just how the light (led) is connected, and harmless. The latency ... Well, there is no such thing as a correct setting. It is the same as all the stories you read in here and very personal I guess. I myself use 2048 (and Q1 = 1) with KS Adaptive Mode. For KS Special Mode I always used 512 and Q1 = 64. The latter was merely because I couldn't go lower (for 384) while now I can. But I never really examined it for SQ, plus I never liked Special Mode. That may be a matter of finding the right settings though. Not much help, but hopefully sufficient for now. Peter |

The latency in XX i understand but this question was about the latency in the Julia console. That's what I answered to ... Peter had 4 tracks provided by 2NL (i think), I chose a sonata of Beethoven and we played it... it showed the true potential of the DAC, but it also showed a bug in the software that played it at HALF SPEED :D Peter, I'm assuming this is an easy fix, no? I know there are only a handful of native DXD tracks around, but from a marketing point of view, I think it would be good if the the NOS1 could play them back correctly. And as Telstar intimated in quoted post, they should sound spectacular through the NOS1. Mani. |

I think this was fixed for 0.9z-3 ?
I can't be sure though, because I planned 0.9z-4 before the first NOS1 deliveries and that didn't happen. In any case it is solved here (and it is not in the 0.9z-3 release notes).

Hey Leo, when it appears to be not so, you are not to be blamed. It took me 10 minutes to be fairly sure, next it took 20 minutes to convince Telstar (who wanted to be 100% sure and clocked it -> 20 minutes for a 10 minute track isn't quite right), and next fooled Roy by telling we had a nice track to listen to. With violins it should be fairly easy, but with the piano (-only) piece, it's difficult.

and next TRIED to fool Roy, haha  It sounded very good at half-speed because the higher notes were not there (well not as "normally" being distorded) Thats why RAMDisk is so great, its makes de higher piano notes much cleaner. 2c I hope you all enjoy nos1....... (with 16/44 material) |

Peter, I have something strange going on. You now the moment that i had you on the phone about one speaker not working. You said that the first switch needed to be set to on (down) And that the MON setting must be on. Well if i would like to play 352800 the only way i can make it work is if i push the switch OFF (Up) I think it works on 352800. There are no message's that it do not. So set the switch to on i can play but only one speaker is giving sound. No matter what i do with Julia. I have IS Phasure NOS1 384 set to on. Also tried it with off.  EDIT: It happened after i tried foobar. Pushed XX off and than switch to up and tried to play with foobar witch i could not get to work. After that switch down does not work. |

I can imagine this ...
The only thing I know is that it rarely happens that a reboot is needed to get the second channel to work. I never realized that this could be related to another player a sort of "occupying" the device. But it sure can be (I think).
But I guess you will be allright after a reboot.

Peter, Just tried it with Vista. No problem there. So back to W7 there again only one channel. So i did a reinstall of the Juli@ driver. After that again no sound on one channel. So i tried XX on the SSD and not the one on Ramdisk. That one worked!! After deleting XX on Ramdisk and put a fresh one on it there was no problem!  |

Gerard, I think it was you were similar happened ... you are confusing yourself with starting from RAMDisk and not. Both use their own configurations ... (Settings).

Hello Peter,
I'm crying into a big towel since last night.
Explanations step by step
A) the first installation of the Julio@ to the PC was a piece of cake, VISTA recognized the PCIe bridge etc.
B) I had to disconnect all cables from the PC for a move in the room yesterday.
C) All cables connected again, the Juli@ card was not recognized. (Code 10)
D) Installed the PCIe card in the second socket of the motherboard. Same result.
E) Swichted from VISTA SP1 to W7 SP1 today. Same result.
F) Installed the PCIe card in the first socket again. Same result.
Now I'm back to Minerva and the magic is gone!
There are four possibilities for a malfunction:
1) Motherboard defect.
2) PCIe card defect.
3) Sound card in the NOS1 out of order.
4) DVI cable defect.
Any idea?
