Here's just a notice for those who don't know (and it appears that some don't  Wink)

You may tend to reboot into Minimized OS but forget to first tell in Settings what Services and stuff to shut down. This is needed *first* !
Without that, nothing much happens.

This is a bit my fault because I never thought of warning you when booting into Minized while nothing was set to "minimize".

Alain

I encountered the same problem and reinstalled my os to fix it. Peter recommended strongly to make a restore point of the working (non minimised) fresh os install (with updated drivers). Then you don't have to install it again when you encounter this problem another time.

Maybe you can restore allready to a previous os version that worked.

Hi Praphan, Hi Coen,

It looks like I did something wrong and I assume that it was in the sequence that I messed... The funny thing is that I reinstalled my OS just the day before it happened.

My XXHE folders are on an external drive and the setup was already adjusted to "Minimize OS"... I should have reinstalled XXHE from fresh instead (maybe).

I would like to revert to a previous state with a restore point, but... I'm and "old fart" and I disable many things (too many it seems)... "restoring point" is one of those things I deactivate, along with other things... unhappy

At least I have a backup of my OS partition when it was new, so it takes about an hour to reset things... Well, I hope Wink

Thanks and regards,

Alain

Ehm Alain, the remark will be rather superfluous, but don't attempt Minimize OS with XXHighEnd on an external harddisk when the LAN is shut off also (in Settings).

Ha ha ha Wink If I do this one time Wink

I run my external disk through Esata...

From what I discovered tbis morning, I can assume that if WASAPi is working after selecting Minimize OS, I can tell that the Min OS did noy work...

Am I correct to think that Min OS can be done only once ?

Hi Alain,

Min OS can be switched back and forth to full OS environment indefinitely. This is the way Peter designed if one set initial sequence up properly.

How do you tell if you are in min OS environment ?  You will notice the difference right at the desktop where the looks are slightly different. Some tools are inactive. Try "disk management" to find out. Even in the System screen (right click "computer" and click "property"), the system will tell you that you have an illegal license.

If it doesn't cause you too much of trouble, you should reinstall OS and XXHE from scratch. Follow Juan's recommendation ie OS and XXHE in the same partition : works great. Then on the first launch of XXHE, you should set up all the parameters as you like and play music files under attended mode.  Reboot and change the parameters randomly and play the files again. Then you can launch the  Min OS.

Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Thanks to you all :-) Everything is OK now Happy

I have to say that there is a consensus and a very friendly attitude on this website and I appreciate it very much. I hope to be an humble contributor as I get better acquainted with XXHE, but I still have to understand better the relations between the different possibilities. There are things that worked right the first time - this time it turned differently and I yet have to better understand the sequence of things - like the ones that have been kindly suggested :-)

Regards,

Alain

Good Alain, and thanks for sharing.
Now don't forget to make that Restore Point *and* check whether it's still there tomorrow after a reboot (I created a topic about that recently).

Hi Peter,

To quote an expression, "You bet" I have created a restore point before anything else... And it has served already Happy

As for other PCs (all purpose), I normally shut off this feature. I have always used my PC without protection (no antivirus, no anti-spam, no nothing) to allow the PC to function as fast as possible. And restoring function was one that I used to deactivate, before this incident happened.

It is the first time that I understand I would better leave this in function Wink I am very happy to have it suggested and though it took (from an Acronis backup) 15 minutes to reinstall the OS, it is even a lot faster to revert to a restore point Happy

I must admit though that if I install an OS for someone else, I don't deactivate those things. I do this only on my machines, because I feel that my choices do not have to be imposed to anyone else.

I feel I can do these things only because I have other protections (have 2 backups on different disks, one located at a different place). As I took care of some redundancy, I feel assured, but I certainly would not recommend something like this. I have seen so many folks who left all on their PC (pictures, documents, etc...) being almost depressed after a disk crash... It happened to me, but since I work for consultants (and learned about backups), I have disciplined myself in having more backups than less...

Regards,

Alain

There is nothing on the music computer that isn't backed up or can't be reset up.
