[0.9z-6.1c and Vista 32 Ultimate, 4GB RAM]

From within track view, e.g., after selecting an album in library view and then closing library view, when Cltr-click is used to select individual tracks, sometimes, not always, and never with the first track, intermediate tracks do not finish playing.  Instead, playback continues with the next song.

And also sometimes intermediate songs are skipped or played in the wrong order.

I didn't report this before because it happened when I was playing with Start playing during conversion checked and when that's checked all of xxHE becomes whacky while attempting larger SFS settings.  But I report it now because I now see it occasionally even after unchecking Start playing during conversion.

I first noticed this problem after two or three songs had played and I then hit Alt-n at 50 seconds into the third song to skip to the fourth song.  What happened is that the fourth song played unitl 50 seconds and then skipped to the fifth song, which then played for 50 seconds and then skipped to the sixth song,  etc.

But yesterday, even without  hitting any Alt-n (not ever since a reboot), and with unchecked  Start playing during conversion,  xxHE skipped in the middle of one song and went to the next song.   That's when I decided to create the For z8 only list, because I'd forget to report it if I wait for z7.

I still prefer to hold off on this issue until after z7.  (only reporting in detail because Peter requested)

Okay, this is the most clear now. And no, I never noticed this. All I know of (which has been in there forever) is when you use Alt-n on the one but last track of a selection, that won't go (all stops or the playback just continues; I forgot).

What you describe with Alt-n is some kind of logical to me (for what kind of mistakes can be in there I mean), but without Alt-n not; could it be so that you applied a Volume Change after xx seconds in the track, and that it then happened (I am not sure whether there's a relation to that xx seconds here, but there can be, especially when it happened towards the end of the track). *If* you by accident see the logic of when this happens, please do not hesitate to mention it. But please do not explicitly look for it because it could take you ages. I myself use Volume Change very often, and I don't recognize it. Still to me too such a thing may happen but it is too rare to see the line in it. Could be once per week but that is too few.
Notice that it also won't help much when you send the log files of it (especially X3 would be in order) because it will need at least two occasions to examine it from that angle. So it could be your own idea, but please don't bother.

As always, thanks for your extensive outlays. Really helpful within itself.

I never use the volume slider.

I adjust volume on my DAC.

So far, selections made with shift-click (consecutive) appear to work, except that in once instance, only the first one of the three played and then it stopped and went to attended mode.  Ctrl-click still encounters problems.

Last night I selected three non-consecutive tracks wtih Ctrl-click, and they all played.   But then I selected three others from a differnent album and the last one of the three did not play.

These examples are a little different than skipping part-way into a track, but they still falls under "strange behaviour" related to using Cltr-click from within the playlist.

Hopefully this gives us a clue.

Can't it be so that you performed the Ctrl-Click all right, but that it didn't work out ? I mean, clicking a track "properly" is a kind of pain sometimes to begin with; the color is not throughout and actually it doesn't look like a proper selection (I hope you know what I mean). So, in the end, when three tracks are selected this way (Ctrl-Click) they all should look properly selected before clicking Play. Otherwise chances are fair that they really are not selected.

A too long shot, I know ...

The colors of the selcted tracks clearly look good and strong.  So I don't think this is it.  (..besides I know more now and will post immediately after this one)

New data point.  New clue.

Last night I selected only a single track about 1/3rd the way down the playlist; then I hit play (unattended).

When this type of selection is done, it is a feature that XX sucks the remaining tracks into memory until the end of the playlist;  ..in this case about another 8 tracks.

Well, not on the first song, but on about the third song XX abruptly skipped to the fourth song about a minute or two (on a typical 4 or 5 minute song).

So  evil this is not necessarily about Ctrl-click.  We've seen it now with Shift-click, and with just selection of one track.   So what appears to be the common denominator is that this occurs when I don't start playback at the first song of the playlist maybe ?

........, sometimes, not always, and never with the first track, intermediate tracks do not finish playing.  Instead, playback continues with the next song.

....  What happened is that the fourth song played unitl 50 seconds and then skipped to the fifth song, which then played for 50 seconds and then skipped to the sixth song,  etc.

This is something I experiences also in unattended mode, but only then playing hirez 24b files.
Then an album is loaded into playlist and starts playing, 1st track plays OK, but the following tracks never finish, but skippes to the next track after 1 min +-.
BUT if you start playing, hit alt-x, stops playing, then starts again, every track finish playing.

Harald, thanks. But, this is a long known problem for 0.9z-6 and is solved for 0.9z-7 (which I keep on promising forever Wink). So, this won't be related to Charlie's problem, unless he reconizes that HiRes is in order.

Again, thanks.

Charlie, something else must be going on, but now it is beyond me what it can be. So I rather hope it *is* about HiRes by accident.

What you just described I must be doing for many years one time per day at least. For normal playing but also when testing things (which often requires a specific track). In that latter case I could take the effort to use that End At Track button, but most often I don't. I *never* saw this problem ...

I really think it is time for those log files when it happens again. Make that all three XX, X3 and X3PB. So, switch logging on by standard please. Btw, I expect some sort of a "problem" with the log files themselves, because in 0.9z-6 not all the individual playback sessions of the Audio Engine are sustained. But hopefully the one currently there (when the problem has occurred) contains the relevant data.

Thanks for having this attention to what happens ...

Last night it happened again several times.  Each time, it started on the 2nd chosen track, either by Ctrl-click or Shft-click.

However, both times it occurred with HiRes files.

I read above that with HiRes this is a known issue.  Therefore, I am waiting for it to happen with 44.1 material and when that happens I will report with log files.

Charlie, for your ease of mind, I don't see how this is related to any ctrl-click etc., unless the selection itself didn't work out and which should be visible (see my earlier post about this). So, I sort of went along with the idea that something might be wrong with playing selections (because I don't do *that* much often), but actually I don't see how.
All I want to say is : when you don't concentrate on the selections, maybe you find the culprit more easily.
But hopefully the log files will help.

Here you are.  I zipped all of the log files into one zip file and I'll let you figure out which are the right ones to peek into.

The pattern for these log files is HiRes playback.  Ctrl-click of four tracks, non-consecutive, then hit play.  First song played okay.  Second song skipped after about 1 minute.  Then I stopped playback and returned to Attended mode.

But what to do with this ? look into a problem which is already solved ?
Thus, this is just that HiRes thing and "stop after 1 minute".

But as I asked a few posts back : if you now recognize that this (HiRes) is just your problem, well, then the problem is solved (soon for you).

So ?

Well, okay.   Then issue 0.9z-7.   Wink

BTW, just now it happened again with 44.1 material that was HDCD pre-converted.  So it was 44.1/24.  Same problem.

Thus, this problem follows the 24 bits, not the 88.2 or 96 etc. or higher sample rates.
