Getting the W10 build 10074 and nothing else

Hi where does one find this version? I tried 3 sites and ended up with 10130. Its as if alternate sites have already upgraded to the latest version.

^ appears to have worked for me.

True story, I was without internet for a month now after moving.  I had so many other things to do that it wasn't a priority.  But as soon as I saw all this stuff about build 10074, I instantly started shopping for home internet again.  Little did I know how incompetent these internet providers are, and what should have taken one day actually took 4 (and many hours swearing on the phone as I navigated the corporate maze).  All this while I was worried that build 10074 would slip out of grasp.  So I'm quite relieved it's still available!

I installed W10074 dual boot on my W7 laptop and its all working OK. XX202 sounds promising. I followed these instructions for the installation :- http://www.howtogeek.com/197647/how-to-dual-boot-windows-10-with-windows-7-or-8/

I could only get 10GB free space for W10 but it was enough, actually 8GB used.

Now I can leave W10 minimized still access my music on the W7 drive and do any other tasks in W7. Nice !!

All the others point to 10130 version now. I see coliny has run this as a dual boot so far. Even though you don't recommend it, what could go wrong with dual boot? I don't have a problem buying another hard drive.

At this stage I'm still hearing better sound from 201 and new PC but does sound like W10 is worth trying for better SQ.

I was curious about the as well.  And whether the reason is true for both SSD and spinning hard drives.

Hey ...

My remark about the dual boot (better not) was about the "danger" so to speak in destroying your original OS. So what I meant was that W10 is so mush in "alpha stage" (no matter MS calls it beta) that anything can be expected (to go wrong).

By now I think this is all quite OK. I run dual/triple boots myself, although all with W10. But no real strange things to see.

Keep in mind that one of the exhibits - at least how that was with W7 and W8 dual boot - is the losing of the Restore Point in either, when booting into the other. Thus what could happen is that you boot into W10 which deletes the Restore Points of your W8, and when next a problem occurs you may have nothing.

Anyway my remark about it was not SQ related.

PS: I myself dropped the dual boot thing long ago because it is only INconvenient (from all angles you can think of, including very unreliable backups (clones) until you tried the restore of it). Swapping a harddisk (connection) ... totally easy and you never need to be afraid that something gets lost because of what you do I the other OS.

Just wondering whether simply installing the "stable" OS to one disc and any "experimental" OSes to another would suffice....  Suppose not.  Have a backup on an external hdd anyway.

I've just checked and restore points are still there in W10 & W7 of my dual boot system. I can't say whether they will work because I have never had to do a restore of either OS. I'm not to worried XX sound quality is so much better in W10 that W10 can stay minimized & W7 can stay normal OS. Restore settings in each OS are just set to restore their own drive not both drives.

PS: I said it elsewhere already, but with W10 the Restore Point will work when the Install DVD is mounted and from there (in Advanced etc.) a Restore Point is chosen. What I imply here is "also in MinOS" which is a bit of a moot thing when you boot from the install DVD (will always be "Normal OS") but still ... I don't recall that anything of that worked with W8.

Both drives connected at the same time, or are you bothering to plug and unplug?

In any case, a backup eliminates any worry in the event a restore doesn't work, and we've all got backups, right?  :)

Ah ...

Yes, I considered mentioning connecting both and arrange for the proper boot sequence ("of the day") in the BIOS. But I don't do that myself since it violates the good habit of having as few as possible in the PC. So maybe it comes as a surprise, but if I had to test the merits of W10 alongside the original W8 hdd being in there, I wouldn't even bother.
So believe it or not but these days already that would imply too much organges next to the apples while I only like apples ...
(to compare, for those who don't get it  ;))
