I'd like to experiment with some VST plug-ins so I downloaded and installed Foobar. I've installed the 1.04 Phasure driver and Foobar recognises several driver options related to Phasure. I've selected the ASIO option. Tracks will play but no sound is coming out (yes, volume control is turned up....). With the WASAPI options, tracks will not even play.
On the Phasure control panel, I'm still selecting 'Multichannel 4.0' as output.

Has anybody here used Foobar with their NOS1/NOS1a? Does anybody know what could be wrong, what settings I need, or do I need to use the other 1.03 driver??

Hi Paul,

Maybe others know more, but it you'd ask me you need Stereo (in the Driver, thus not MultiChannel) and put Switch #5 in the up position (normally it is down).
ASIO is shut off in the driver (by me) so not much chance with that.

Exactly not. For players other than XXHighEnd, 1.04 is required.

Thanks for your thoughts Peter....

So I selected 'Stereo full' in the Phasure Control Panel and then in Foobar there are now 4 x WASAPI options! (L and R for 2 different names, I forget what). On each option I only get sound from one channel, and the channel swaps depending on whether I choose one or the other.

Very strange. There must be a way to get full stereo sound? Anybody?

I'm not using XXHE when trying to get Foobar to work. XXHE is on another drive. Does that matter?

Yes, the switch 5 is up, have selected 'stereo full' in the Phasure control panel,  and still getting multiple Wasapi options in Foobar, each of which only plays one or the other channel. Have also disabled 'is phasure nos1' in XXHE.

You can use Stereo Reduced so you have less options (and it works just the same).

Hey, I can imagine that by now Foobar has a 705600/768000 option ? If so, possibly you try to use that while they don't apply it how XXHighEnd does it (HQPlayer the same).

Maybe it helps you if I tell that I use the "other player" myself each week for watching a movie (like last night).

If you have suggestions yourself, don't hesitate ...

If I have Foobar on my C drive and XXHE on my D drive, does it matter at all what the XXHE settings are (it is not running?).

The WASAPI device options I am seeing in Foobar relate to Phasure WDM device only (Engine 3?). Should the (PCM Renderer Engine 4) option be there as well?

Hi Paul,

Yes, there whould be KS: options as well. Just similarly prefixed (the KS:) as in XXHighEnd. But I recall that this must be switched on in Foobar or is a special plugin.

Maybe you did something to the inputs and the outputs in there ? IIRC all can just be clean (maybe a volume control ?).

Yep, that works!

Also, I realised that switch#5 is (in my mind....) is in fact switch#1, so now when I press the true switch#5 tis singing.... sounds good !

In my quest to use some EQ vst plugins for kicks, Foobar is working, also J-River. But I must say how shocked I was last night at the complete deterioration in SQ going from XXHE to both Foobar and J-R. Sound is etched, lacking microdynamics. Now for HQP!

I meant to say that when we are to use any EQ means per random external playback software, we will be stuck to a lesser SQ. Not so much because the EQ is not executed well, but because that player doesn't apply all the SQ stuff XXHighEnd does.
That meanwhile in that EQ environment all gets only worse (because nothing takes into account that each small piece of processing deteriorates) is something else.
That, lastly, the EQ environment does all the opposite of what at least I myself adhere (no ringing and such) makes it painful. Of course it requires first a DAC that "does nothing" or otherwise things are distroyed from there and "destructive software" doesn't add much baddie.

Not sure you answered my question. Are there, or will there ever be EQ options available with XXHE software?

My enquiry is based more on using XXHE or XXHE/NOS1a in a headphone system rather than in a loudpeaker system. Not something you would necessarily be interested in!

However, parametric EQ in this headphone environment is basic, doesn't have to account for Xover or room impact, and is usually phase coherent. Therefore a well implemented EQ used for headphone listening should have absolutely negligible impact on SQ.

My experimentation with EQ on headphones with software like JRiver is positive and seriously enhances the listening experience. However, I am sure the basic/overall SQ from JRiver wouldn't compete with XXHE. Hence my enquiry.

And If I had the idea that it would be for the better sound. But I don't have that idea; see previous post.
It can only be done in hardware (interface bandwidth problems oterwise) but the hardware does not exist. Unless I make it myself, as it seems ...

I "assumed" that as you were active in designing EQ settings used extensively in the Orelo speakers that it would be a relatively simple process to include EQ facilities or VST plugins for XXHE.

I allow it in the speakers because in there it is used for the lower frequencies only (under 200Hz) which is very fine at the sampling frequency (of the internal DSP) applied (60KHz or so, I forgot). 2000Hz would require 10x that (600KHz) and 20000Hz again 10x more (now 6000KHz).
If all stays in the digital domain that would be fine, but it can't and this is interface bandwidth related.

Of course quite some more active speakers with DSP exist, but listen to them ...
