Hi gang
Anyone using their NOS in a cabinet?
That is to say can it/will it get too hot.
I can vent the unit top & bottom if necessary.
Regards to all....

There he is !!!
Our one and only left "MK1" NOS1 user ! (well, as far as I can recall - there must be some Japanese in the US somewhere too, but I am afraid that one is in a very closed cabinet)
hahaha

So Jack, always thinking of that missed opportunity - always blaming myself (I forgot a bit how it went).

So, your NOS1 radiates 40-45C from the power supply. I recall that the most special interface you still have, runs quite hot. So would it be true that you feel the left leg to be warmer than the right leg ?

All 'n all your NOS1 will not be really that hot (hot would be if things radiate 90C or so). But I have no idea how heat can build up.

Just saying (Hips - oops) :
The G3 incarnation of the NOS1a radiates only 24-25C, so this is almost ambient. If you put that in a tight closed box, still nothing would build up for heat.
Of course this is about missing a next opportunity. Haha.

So please let me know about that left leg and its warmth, because I really don't know any more.

All the best regards,
Peter

That would be amazing ...

Damn, I thought I could sneak in through the back door without you seeing me! Caught me red handed with my original NOS which has been powered up since day one, in a permanent state of readiness. However, funny you should mention Windows 10....I like to reboot the PC from time to time to "refresh" it. But each time it loses the juli@ interface & needs "persuading" to relocate it. Maybe it's time for an upgrade, what are the options?
By the way, not only is my NOS original, but I think I was your original member when we migrated from Bert's site all those years ago....God I'm getting old
Happy days to you both & whilst I'm in here, Hi Bert

Hi again Jack,

Quote
Maybe it's time for an upgrade, what are the options?

Yes, I already thought about this somewhat, and it really would be a struggle for me to find out. In rare occasions people skip an upgrade, so they have two in one go. You skipped 10 or so. But then you are a rich man because of saving on shipping costs.

I'm almost inclined to decline any upgrade request. It is the last of Mohicans ! Sometimes I am sorry to not have such a relic myself ! Otoh, we still have nightmares of seeing the Windows 7 little coloured balls twirl ... until they stopped. It was (Russian) roulette for each one we made.
You have been a good father.

Having said that ... I said it because I suddenly think of one other existing. In Serbia. It broke down on estimate 6 times in the first 6 months.

Jack, if you are happy with it, then no reason to upgrade. But if you do, expect inordinate SQ improvement by now. 100% guarantee.
Send me an email if you like to know more. OK ?

Kind regards,
Peter

Hey Peter
Been upgrading the listening room first, gone from 3.5 x 4.5 metres to 6 x 8 metres allowing my system to take it's proverbial coat off & stretch it's legs. My antique NOS has been working fine in it's new housing with minimal venting as has everything else bearing in mind there are no fans anywhere. Sounds too good to mess with for a while....but to quote Arnie "I'll be back"

Best
Happy Jack

Sweet child in time what the flac just happened....
A large box with a plain wrapper arrived at my house a couple of days ago. Inside was my modified NOS1 "Mourinho Edition" Needless to say some hours of tweaking followed.
I have just finished a session, I am still trembling, the hairs on my arms are still vertical. What a delight, almost erotic! It's like sex with your clothes on. I am not a born reviewer so I must end now before this gets pornographic & I get banned (besides it's addictive)….
Jesus, or should I say St Peter

Well done

A large box with a plain wrapper arrived at my house

Was sent by drone. So yes, plane wrapper. And all the way by 9V battery. I hope there's some left in it for calibrating the DC-Offset because it goes by the same battery.

still vertical. What a delight

I suppose you can't hold on to that forever, Jack. I know, your NOS1a/G3 is blue, but even if you lick it hard, it is no pill.

Needless to say some hours of tweaking followed.

You can say that. After we j'd off the old stuff and pushed in the new *and* moved over the glockenspiel, we discovered that in the very far back we replaced a chip. And this same chip is the one we now sustain on the new B'ASS board. So we move it over. But we never thought about your special situation until some "bollocks !" was floating about because I managed to think about it. This was before inhaling those beers. Afterwards I forgot about it again. This is how I now write it down. Anyway, it kept us busy tweaking for a full day, never seeing what could be wrong, except for that all B'ASS boards we tried seemed to get killed after a few seconds. Never saw such a thing before. But really no wonder because that old chip ran on 2.5V. The new one on 5V, so the old did not last long.
Well, Jack, I already told you the little story by email and I suppose we'll never forget this special one.

OK, it is clear that I thought to be funny too with a clashier response, but no way I can get passed that Child in Time, supersede on the Jumping Jack Flash which I recall from the same era and ego, and trying to Get Satisfaction screaming around I couldn't. Those were the days.

I hope you like it with my remark that I couldn't have a slighest clue myself, after all these upgrades.

Hello
There was enough room in that box for a six pack!
However, try as I may I cannot get the 1.04b driver to install, I keep getting an error. I have tried upgrading from 1.03 to 1.04 or 1.04 on it's own, but no. With the 1.03 installed device manager reports it as 1.02...?
Any thoughts please

Hi Jack,

You did engage that "No Driver Signing" in XXHighEnd's Settings and rebooted, right ?

And don't click that button more than once for the boot session; set once to your desired setting - reboot right after that.
Full procedure :

1. Go to Settings - Output Section.
2. Click Refresh button next to the "Driver Signing" text.
3. When it shows "Drivers need not be signed", click Change.
4. Reboot.
5. If you like, after the Reboot, check whether it is now as desired by means of #2. If OK, no further clicking in there ...

I don't think you have the RAM-OS Disk, but for those who have : don't do this while in the RAM boot. Instead boot to the BASE OS.
Also, the installing of the Driver itself has to be done in Normal OS (where the Driver Signing thing is set does not matter).

After the matter, the Driver Signing state can be left as it is (no need to change it back to "Drivers must be Signed".

Let me know how you fare ...
