Strange but true

Listened to XX last night for about six hours. 09--6b. Eva Cassidy, John Coltrane, David Gray, etc. All worked flawlessly. This morning began the day with Dylan: Tell Tale Signs and got the following error messages ""Wrong Stream, Status Two" closed it and "unsupported format" popped up. I closed and restarted XX and tried playing a different "album" and got the Engine 3 stopped working message. Got this message no matter what I tried to play. Then went into the settings and ticked "Debug", not that I know what that checkbox does but, hey, sure sounds good! Well, after initiating Bebug,  music now plays but the only commands that work in unattended, after XX disappears, is alt/x. With XX on screen all works EXCEPT when I play Dylan: Tell Tale Signs. I get the same error messages previously described.

Questions:

1. Tell Tale signs was ripped as a 16/44.1 wave. Why will all else play but I get an unsupported format message for this album?

2. How do I get all of my commands back in unattended?

At this moment I can think of one thing only : you may have been playing around perhaps with the "Exclusive" checkboxes on the Sound Device Advance properties tab, and because of a Vista bug this keeps on bugging you until a reboot. For example, unticking those checkboxes will just need a reboot after doing that, or otherwise you keep on having these problems.

... but this is not much consistent with your story about other tracks still playing, but then *I* never thought of this possibly being track (file) related ...

Whether you recognize that you were (un)ticking mentioned checkboxes or not, does a reboot help ?
I sure hope so, because I'm clueless otherwise. Well, momentarily. I could always try to get hold of some cold beers and retry, though.

I forgot : I really don't know how that Debug checkbox interferes, and I mean, there is just no logic in that to anything for you in this case. That it seemed to help must be -sort of- your luck, but it tells me nothing really. How your Alt- keys stopped working ... well ... that might indicate a kind of other way around of things : you "mangled" with those exclusive boxes after a couple of whiskys (so you wouldn't know anymore about it, hehe), shut off the lot and went to bed. This morning the PC was booted again, and now the checkboxes are UNticked and you don't allow for Exclusive Mode anymore. How it can be that some files still play in this scenario ? ... I don't know other than that this scenario will not be correct.

Anyay, the reboot of the PC will have stopped AutoHotkey from working, which must be explicitly activated.

Still at work but can say that i didn't go into the sound device advanced tab and check or uncheck any boxes. Nor did i forget to restart the autohotkey this morning. When I get home I'll check the sound device advanced tab. What are the proper settings in that tab.

Not much of a whiskey man but do love to go down the basement and dabble in good herbs. We find it affords a more intense and accurate listening experience.

Well, got home, exclusive check boxes were correct and XX 9x--6b worked fine, but I did not try the Dylan file. After and hour of trouble free listening I turned 6b off and turned on 9x--4. I played the troublesome Dylan, it played without any errors. Turned off "4" and went back to "6b", played the Dylan and got the "engine 3 stopped working error." Something in that file certainly bothers 6b. What next?

Rebooted and all is well as long as I don't play the Dylan.....at times you must feel like you are herding cats!

No, it doesn't play here either. I don't know yet why, but it must be me somehow.
Look below though, which says that the file is from another PC and therefore it is blocked. I neever saw such a thing, and it may be related. The button where the mouse pointer is can remove that blocking. It doesn't help.

Aha. That may be weird, but of course is the most helpful to know.

About the origine ... I probably got on a strange track because I really never saw such a status of a file. But no worries, the difference between 0.9x-4 and the current version will denote what is going on.

It is me doing something wrong. So it's not about that. However, the header of this file does not look normal to me. What did you rip this with ?
And can it be so that you ripped this differently (with other software) than your other (playing) albums ? Or that you applied tagging to it afterwards or anything else that makes the difference ?


Btw, did your hotkeys start working again ?

I don't remember if I ripped it with EAC or WMP. Most of my music has been ripped with WMP, error correction ticked. I only discovered EAC several months ago. I'm going to rerip it with both and see what happens. Will let you know.Thanks Peter.

Very weird. XX wont play the Mississippi wave file ripped with WMP. It will play the file ripped with EAC. It does play other wave albums filed ripped with WMP.......

There is a special provision for WMP in XX somewhere, and I guess I killed it by accident. Now I know where to look.

Solved in the upcoming 0.9x-7.

Btw caused by "your" format switching requirement, which I rechecked and still works.

So glad to hear that the format switching will be solved in "7'. Been making playlists for a long time and they have both 16/44.1 and 24/96 traks completely mixed.

BTW all hotkeys have been working for several days. A reboot fixed that problem.

And in the program at the pace concerned I even wondered whether what I eleminated was right.
So it ws not.

So, that solves the problem of WMP rips which create a non-conform header.

Thanks again, Peter. It does still seems strange though that none of the other WMP  ripped albums that I've played have had this problem. Dylan's Tell Tale Signs was released last fall. Maybe there is something in the newer WMP rips that's different? Whatever it is I certainly look forward to the fix.
