Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / RAMdisk Play issues
|
on: October 16, 2017, 08:51:29 pm
|
Last week my audioPC started acting up, and instead of finding the problem I decided to ditch Win10 10585 and start over with a clean slate with win10 14393.
After I got all that running, I decided to start using a RAMdisk. I had never done this before, but as I am rather lazy, I thought to streamline Peter's process a little.
So I rewrote parts of his Rama.bat file, and this resulted in RAMDisk_XXHighend.cmd (attached)
I put a link in the start-up folder so if all goes well: - at boot the XXhighend control panel is started. (Peter put this link in himself) - at boot two RAMdisks are created. - all needed XXHighend data and software is copied to these two RAMdisks. - XXHighend is started in RAM.
This works well in MAXos, but for some reason not so peachy in MINos.
So now I wonder, what am I doing wrong? Is anybody willing to take a look at the cmd file and suggest improvements?
Sidenote: Before this cmd file can be used, I need to create the RAMdisks once, otherwise I can not make the necessary changes to the XXhighend settings before I start using the ramdisk version.
Regards,
Henk

Hi Mani,
I'd have to sort ou how much more is possible, but in theory the 6dB is achievable.
Best regards, Peter
Hi Peter, I'm hoping to be in line for your upgrade in the near future. And I too would like to get the extra 6db:) Thanks, Henk

Hi Peter,
I wouldn't mind at all if you added a bit of code to XXhighend which would delete these files everytime I "clear and refresh the Results List"
I presume this would be easy to program, would be very unobtrusive for us users, and you might as well get rid of those daft "thumbs.db" files at the same time:)
Or am I talking rubbish now?

Peter,
Thanks for the explanation:)
I should have realised that automatic updates wouldn't work in minos anyway:) I couldn't very well imagine that you would overlook something as simple as using group policy editor to turn off updates. And you didn't! I've read too that you couldn't postpone updates indefinitely, but never gave it much thought, as long as I'm in 10586, I'm happy.
And I've been in minos almost exclusively in the last year or so. I guess I was just lucky in the few minutes I've had to use maxos.
Thanks again,
Henk

Hi Peter,
Regarding alp-p: Daah:)
I'm not exactly shure what I'm going to do upstream of the Intona.
I have ample room inside the PC case, so I'm thinking of disconnecting one of these two leads (see attachment) and hook up the intona instead.
Then I would have to so some soldering, and I would need a clairixa with only 1 plug.
Is this possible?
Henk

One week later and with 1 Intona in the chain I'm completely happy:) Thanks, Peter for all the help! I still have one very minor issue though... If I use ALT-P during unattended minimized play, the music pauses. For about 1 second, and then it continues as if nothing happened. Any idea what this might be? Henk Oh, and by the way, can I have a clairixa too??

I've lost my RDP connection about 7 times in the last 2 hours during minimized unattended play, so I did a small regedit:
HKEY_Local_machine\ system\currentcontrolset\control\terminal server set allowRemoteRPC to 1
That seems to fix it:)
Still having a small issue with coverart: It doesn't always show. When I for instance start task manager, and regedit during unattended play, the coverart disappears and does not return until I stop and restart play:)
Edit: HKEY_Local_machine\ system\currentcontrolset\control\terminal server MUst set allowRemoteRPC to 0, otherwise I can not RDP at all.....
Took me a while to discover this...
I just read google, and (sometimes) know how to formulate the right question:)

Guys, As Peter probably already guessed: All my problems seem to be solved:) The 384Khz problem was indeed as Peter indicated. I should have thought of that myself. The activation was a bit more complicated: I tried to reset as indicated, but the Paypal button only redirected me to a text file explaining that I shouldn't have to do this etc etc etc, because I already had used xxhighend before.... But it turned red anyway. For a while. So I reset again, played some music, and tried the paypal button while playing music. Now it worked, I got a new activation code. copied and pasted directly from the website and all seems peachy now. Maybe the first activation failed because I copied the code from my mail, which I receive on the other PC? I'm again playing minimized, unattended and activated. Yoohoo, Henk
