Hi Peter,

I would like to report small issue with false HDCD decoding. This is not new issue, was also in previous Z-1 version.
So, there are some CDs that are identified as being HDCD whilst they are not necessarily HDCD (in fact I am really not sure about it).

An example might be Alan Parson Project "Eye in the sky" remastered CD. When trying to play on XXHighEnd it is identified as being HDCD and sometimes I receive an error "Error during HDCD decoding" or something like that.

What I did, is I ripped it using dbPoweramp and added DSP effect called HDCD. What is does, is:
- if HDCD is found, it is decoded to 24bit
- if HDCD is not found, it is not decoded - left as 16 bit music

Now, when XXHighEnd upconverts also 24bit/44.1kHz flac files, I can use this DSP feature for every CD. And you know what is an additional advantage ? This software always clears HDCD flags whateved disk I rip - also seems to clear those false HDCD issues. For example, the Alan Parsons Project "Eye in the sky" is still 16bit FLAC, but HDCD is not reported as existing in XXHighEnd, and I can see no errors. Just positive side effect of dpPoweramp HDCD DSP effect on normal CD being identified as HDCD by XXHighEnd ?

True HDCD are converted to 24bit flac files by this DSP module.

Thank you !

wackowacko

Ok, I have a Remaster 2007 (playing it now), but no spur of HDCD on there.
You may send me a track via FileMail and I will look.

Your other remarks ? ... hahaha, Party too much to understand right now. Maybe tomorrow.

Jarek,

That DSP module you are talking about in dbpoweramp is using the same HDCD.exe program as xx does.
Why would you destroy a album by pre-converting it, if xx does the same hdcd encoding on-the-fly. (There is no difference)

Quote
True HDCD are converted to 24bit flac files by this DSP module.
Yes, xx does this on the fly, thats even better

So disable the DSP (HDCD) future in dbpoweramp because you dont need it.

Also check out Cuetools
it has a function to scan your whole hdd and search for hdcd's, so you dont have to convert your albums to find them.
cuetools puts a log in every album folder.
Code:
[Verification date: 1/04/2010 20:24:06]

PS: tip: after scanning your whole disc for hdcd's, copy/paste the log you get from cuetools and put it in a txt file,
then search for "HDCD detected", like you do with ctl-f.

Hi Roy and Peter,
a file ANALYSIS.DAT in the CD directory contains HDCD=YES, whilst Cuetools detect this CD as being not HDCD. XXHighEnd shows it is HDCD. Does in because of ANALYSIS.DAT file contains the line HDCD=YES ?

Hey Jarek,

I think that cuetools is right, so its most likely not a hdcd.
Open the ANALYSIS.DAT file and change the HDCD=YES in to HDCD=NO
This avoids further error messages.
(you can send the troubled file to Peter anyway, so he can see were this goes wrong)

I have some albums that are the other way around, cuetools says they are hdcd,
whilst xx does not regocnize them as such.

Some work has to be done in this area, i guess

Best,

Roy

Open the ANALYSIS.DAT file and change the HDCD=YES in to HDCD=NO

Although this may solve some of the resulting problem, I am not sure how this emerges, and *then* this is not the solution (ok, at first). So :

For me and now it is better to remove that line from the XXAnalisys.dat file, try to play the album again, and tell me whether the HDCD = Yes is there again (and most probably the error as well).

In that case, DO send me a track please, because it has to be solved, and I can't do it without the example !

Thanks,
Peter

Peter,
this must have been problem with the HDCD = YES line, becuase now I cannot repeat this kind problem. The file must have been created by previous version of XXHighEnd. Now, no matter what I do, I have always HDCD = NO, and no problem exists.
Thank you.
