Hello guys,

Now that we all enjoy our systems (Thanks again Peter), I think it's a good moment to start a thread where everyone could post his recommendations of favourite albums, not just bands - specific albums. I hope this thread will continue and we all find sth interesting for each other. So, let me be first:

One of my favourite vocal-jazz albums from a Polish singer:
Anna Maria Jopek - Barefoot

It's not just great music, but realisation is also quite impressive. Let me know if you get to listen to it.

Cheers,
Marcin

Haha, I know her work very well, but I like Barefoot above all of her albums. Thanks Wink
Let's go on:
Elisabeth Karsten - Flux

Quote
Old words about love and death throughout the centuries travel between Rolf Lislevand's flute and Tore Brunborg's saxophone, sung by a brand new Norwegian voice named Elisabeth Karsten. The melodies are mostly from the 16th Century, and have been sung in Shakespeare dramas on numerous stages throughout Europe. Arrangements are by Rolf Lislevand and Arild Andersen. The latter also plays bass on this CD. Pĺl Thowsen and Paolo Vinaccia play drums. Elisabeth Karsten is originally from the town of Skien in Norway. At the moment she lives a cosmopolitan life based in Miami, USA. She travels from place to place around the world as fast as the tunes on Flux fly between 5 centuries.

Let me say I'm only posting about this first album (below) because I had the idea of never have heard such an analogue sound from my system as ever before. But if you take the first 3 tracks of this album ... it has the most beautiful drums, cymbals, punch on the bass, of course a most good piano, but it also shows an impressive level of funk mainly because of the bass expressing so so well, together in perfect harmony with the drums, and strangely enough - piano.

Since this album is from 2004 I thought to compare it with the second (below) from 1962 which is merely a percussion showcase and an early adopter of modern jazz. Well, except from some strange ticking noise in the second track, in no way it sounds less good than the 2004 album. For longer I've been a fan of 60's recordings just because they sound so good, and this one certainly belongs to that.

Of course I am not going to tell you about a fairly good sounding DAC I'm using here, and the very last I will be telling you about a new setting in XX I was using for the first time.
I wouldn't be posting about this if I didn't think myself I found some Holy Grail ...

whistle Peter

Just ordered the two Bob James Trio CDs - but they're coming from the US, so wil be a while now. Will look into the other albums mentioned in this thread... Incidentally, Melody Gardot did a great live set on 'Later with Jools Holland' on the BBC a couple of months ago.

Peter, looking forward to hearing the new feature on XX... and that DAC, but think I'll probably be wearing a hearing aid by the time it's finally released Happy

Then I suggest your hair will fall out before the end of the month. innocent
This will give you another week at most at finding something nice looking for you.

One advantage : it is mutually exclusive with an existing setting. Haha.
