Hmm ... This is not a bout the tilde - which is there because of Dos Short Names conversion. The problem is that A not being a normal character (that by itself converted from the n in senor). But ... strange ...

I really wonder how this can happen. It should be Windows itself going wrong here.

Do other tracks with diacritical marks in them (within the first 7 positions !) still work for you ? If not, I guess it worked before, and so ... what Windows version do you use here ?

That doesn't look good, and must be that Windows version. I will test mine, but later.

This is the same error I got with "ä,ö,ü" characters in the title. I guess it is the same problem.

As just said in another similar topic :

A track just passed by here containing such characters (upside down question mark at position 4).

Is this still not working for you in 0.9z-4 ?

Now I get the following error in 0.9z-4-0 :
name of the messagebox: "Find Converted Files"
message: "No Tracks found to play, please check for disk full"
The next tracks are playing ok.

Thank you Johan. The message is new for 0.9z-4, but tells the same : the output file is not found.

Last time (in that other topic) I asked you to send me a file. That never happened, or I missed it.
Best would be if you zip it, including the folder it is in. This way whatever is exactly in there for ascii values etc., will remain, I think.
Next, I also need to know the exact structure in from of it (so, directory names from off the root).

About "including the folder it is in", it is okay to create a similar folder at the same level and copy the file to there, so you'd have to send that file only. BUT, first check whether it still isn't working from there !

Thanks (and no obligations of course ... but here it all works aggressive).

Hi again Johan,

Thank you for sending me the example file. But, well, I tried everything and all, but can't let it go wrong. Tried Vista SP1 and W7-SP1, both on RAMDisk and without ... nothing.

but

Since you were so kind to indeed send the folder structure along, could you now be so kind make a couple of log files from when this happens. Please use the same track you sent me, use it in WAV as you sent it to me, and of course have that same folder structure (I put "Music\" in the root.

Please post all three of the log files.
I should be able to compare it with my own log files, and look for the differences.

I used Attended and Copy To XX Drive. Not that it matters, but we should try to get our log files equal. My "Show Data" (right pane) is off.
On that matter, I had only your track loaded in the Playlist Area.

Se for further settings below. Of course you don't have to copy them all exactly, with some sense of what can be important here.

Thanks !
Peter

23:41:43.4687500 : Short Name initiated-1 : 01-SE?~1.WAV
23:41:43.4687500 : Short Name applied (2) : I:\Music\Jazz\GARYBU~3\1972-C~1\01-SEO~1.WAV

07:35:19.6583163 : Short Name initiated-1 : 01-SEO~1.WAV
07:35:19.6583163 : Short Name applied (2) : G:\Music\Jazz\GARYBU~1\1972-C~1\01-SEO~1.WAV

The top two lines are yours, the bottom ones are mine.
The second lines are the Short Names taken from the Original Location, the first lines are from the single file after it has been copied to the XX Drive. Although the "single file" is within a path just the same, it is referenced without a path here, because it is in the "current folder". This might imply a difference for the situations in the first and the second line. Point is :
This "single file" situations (1st lines above) are different for both our systems; in your case something which should have been converted to "non unicode" or whatever it exactly is, was not. The "?" in the log file is representative for the Ñ and that it really is that shows this line from your X3 log file :
23:41:44.8437500 Music File does not exist (1) : 01-SEÑ~1.WAV

Since this Ñ is not part of the normal Dos 8.3 Naming ASCII whatever Convention, it should be translated to something else. In this case it looks like the next character in "our" alphabet, with as base a normal N, and after which comes O.

01-SEÑ~1.WAV (a)
01-SEO~1.WAV (b)

In your case this did not happen for this single file sistuation, and the system now looks for a file name like (a) while it is really called like (b) (that is how the short name will exist on disk, although you can not see that).

While this (exactly this ??) has been a problem for at least one in the past (Jarek), now suddenly more people are bothered by it, and it looks to come from a new version. Or is it another OS ? another "OS language" ? Windows updates ? (I *never* apply any).

FYI : When you do not "Copy to XX Drive" this one most probably works. But would it be a FLAC or anything, possibly it will not work again (and is then unrelated to "Copy to XX Drive".

Or this is a stupid OS bug somewhere, or this is related to the drive where the file ends up (XX Drive !). If it is the latter, those of you having the problem should be able to show similarities somehow. We could start with the question : what is your XX Drive EXACTLY ?

I recall that someone said similar already, but that is why I explicitly tested it with the RAMDisk too (see earlier post).

Ok ...
a. What RAMDisk software do you use ?
b. How do you format it ? (I do not at all at first, but format it explicitly in "Manage" with all default settings, plus I assign a driver letter which I next use).
c. Do you use the RAMDisk beyond the OS' official memory limit ?

Thanks for your help !
