I played a lot of music with standard CD resolution (I did not miss high resolution Wink ) and tried higher sample rates today. Even though DAC is defined correctly in the settings XXHighend shows the message: "Device allocated but can't play". I made a clean install of Windows 7 64 Bit SP1 as recommended and the system is using the Juli-Driver 1.2.1. Did I miss something? Are there any debugging hints?

Hmm ... All I can tell that this just should work. So most probably you didn't set all there is ? (ok, dumb question, but still).

If you are willing to try the 1.07 Juli@ Driver version, you might be able to see the light more easy, because it shows the devices differently (which is *not* more W7 compatible, never mind 1.07 is more new).

Further ? By heart :
DAC Is at 24/192.
DAC Needs at 32.
Not Phasure NOS1 in your case.
Device Buffer Size for Special Mode can be 256 and Q1 can be set to the same. Choose a Kernel Streaming device (KS:).

I don't know of anything else, and all I can say is that dozens of original NOS1 users (a Juli@ being in there) used (or still use it) without problems.

Let me know what happens ...

Hi Peter,

in the menatime I tried the possible combinations with XXHighend 0.9-z-61 and 0.9-z-61, Juli Driver 1.06 and 1.07. My system behaves always the same: After installing XXHighend and Juli driver the system plays the FLAC-files with the different sampling rates - but there is no music. Now the strange thing: After doing some (meaningless) work in the Windows System Driver Setup of the Juli 44,1 KHz music is playing but higher sample rates are not allowed. Aditionally I receive the message regularily, that the requested interrupt latency could not be configured ...

Hi Georg,

Sorry for your problems, but I really can't understand. Unless ...

Unless you are trying combinations of XXHighEnd versions (a bit encouraged for by the two downloads in the latest version). So :

Reinstall XXHighEnd in a fresh new folder. But, now take explicitly care that you only use the latest versions from here : 0.9z-6-1. So, first unzip the z6-1.rar to that new folder (do nothing) and then unzip the z6-1c over it. Now run XXHighEnd.exe.

If this doesn't help we'll continue (but clueless from this side).
Thanks for your help,
Peter

Maybe I didn't respond properly in the earliet posts ...

Somehow I thought you are using the Juli@ for analogue-out, but you don't. So, you must focus on the 24/96 DAC behind it.

Obviously this can't do more than 24/96, but you must also investigate whethert it's a "24 bit only" (this is a setting in XXHE).

Can that be it ?

Hi Peter,

you are right, I'm using the SPDIF output to feed the DAC. 24 Bit only gets STATIC definitively. That's not the reason. The XXHIGHEND settings worked fine for the XP based system but not for Win 7 64 bit.  I found out additionally: If the system does play tracks with the KS driver it uses the analog outputs of the Juli card! It seems that there is no KS driver for the SPDIF output with the 64 bit drivers of the Juli card. Only WASAPI works to SPDIF. Hopefully anybody has some more experience with the Juli card and the 64 bit drivers?

Hey Georg,

Quote

Somehow it can't be about this. Only that I forgot myself how to do it maybe. But I wonder.
Please keep in mind : all (first version) NOS1 users used this with both WASAPI and Kernel Streaming. Hopefully this makes you think that it must be on your side somehow. This is/feels different from thinking that it can't work. It 100% can. But don't ask me how your DAC is involved here ...

Sorry I can't help more. I will send this topic to someone using the Juli@ definitely. He may be asleep right now though.

I will send this topic to someone using the Juli@ definitely. He may be asleep right now though.

Indeed he was Happy

Forget about all those later drivers .. been there .. done that .. none work! You need v0.978 from ( http://download.esi-audio.com/?p=6&g=0&l=en )

I have buffers/samples in the Juli@ control panel set at 48 (as per my signature).

I can't remember what I have the system sounds parameters set at (via control panel), as all the appropriate background processes have been prevented from starting in my system, but I don't think it matters much what they were set to anyway.

BTW ... you will then see within the KS options in XXHE, three choices. The first should be the analogue ports, the second will be digital, and the third will be combination of both.

Cheers,

Russ

So, all solved ?

What did you do different now ?
(it really can't be "just" that other driver !)

PS: Thank you Russ.

There is additional information based on the HD images I used during the tests.

My first installation of W7 was a bit "corrupted". I forgot to disable the automatic update function and got a somewhat "newer" system than SP1 (Date was 4th of December 2011). Seemingly I discovered that the KS driver was working correctly with red book specs (after doing useless things in the driver setup area of windows) but XXHIGHEND used WASAPI automatically after setting oversampling. (Strange, I know). To get KS driver working again I had to reboot the system and do the same procedure again. If shutting down and starting the system again with this settings the KS driver was working again without intervention. Identifying KS or WASAPI is based on the interrupt latency setting: 15 ms was accepted by KS but not by WASAPI mode.

The second installation contained a "clean" W7 SP1. Here I tried the actual Juli drivers and dicovered that KS was working for the analog outputs only.

After changing the drivers and selecting "wave2" (which was not seen before) in the second installation everthing works as expected.

Regards,
Georg
