Hi.
Using 0.9z-7-5. Output device is KS:TE7022 audio w/SPIF global. Using  4engine. Win 7. I am using the volumecontrol in xx but i can also adjust volume with the win volumecontrol. I thought the win control schould be deactivated?

Generally speaking, no, the Windows Volume is not supposed to work. However, soundcards can have their own volume and when so they are often (!) bound to the Windows Volume. Thus, in such a case it looks like you are manipulating the Windows Volume, while actually the slider now controls the soundcard's volume.
In such a case it would be normal if the soundcard comes with some control panel which shows a volume slider just the same. Do you have one ? If so, you will see that moving that slider will also change the Windows Volume slider.

FYI : Notice that with Windows 8 other things seem to be the matter and that there the Windows Volume can be used while the above is not the case.

Ahh...so it is Wink Just as you say, when looking at the soundcard the volume slider moves when i move the win volume and vica-versa. Is this affecting SQ? that this is " in control"?

Yes it will. But if all is right, setting it to maximum (or -0dBFS) all should be good. This is a bit guessing because not all Volume Controls set the volume at exactly -0dBFS and when not, your output will not be "bit perfect" as such. You could worry about it, but it may be better to just think you have great sound and forget about it. But do set it at maximum, OK ?

Ok, not OK. Cool

Is it ever correct that you have this soundcard (and control panel) like I suggested it ? I mean, if I look at your signature this doesn't seem logic to me (Stello USB to SPDIF converter).
But actually I don't know.

Well, i have another dedicated  laptop now- HP ProBook 6460b i5 2.3GHz 16GB ram, win 7 64bit.  USB -> stello U2 conv -> SPDIF straight into the Buffalo. I will update my signature. Now this laptop has this TE7022 audio w/spdif /SRS Labs premium sound panel. I think this is for the sound card control. And this KS: TE7022 w/spdif is what i select in xx output to get the engine4 going. I cab choose other output devices with engine3 but the win wolume is active with all
