I'm changing to this version Peter. Do I need to follow the same setup as 10074?

Xxh 2.04 is a stepup from 2.03a quite surprising in 10074.

Which is better upgrading to W10 OS from ram or Intona? Can't do both financially and I can't decide which to do first.

Ouch Robert - so difficult !

Coincidentally I saw your "Paypal aquisitions" this morning and was thinking about you and how you would benefit from the OS RAM disk. This, while I did not hear you about it, until - coincidence ? - just now.

For you, possibly it is not about the From RAM as such, but the sheer comfort of being able to swap OS so easily. Thus, nobody tells you that you need to boot the OS from RAM. You can do it (and you have your NAS running I think, so you really can), but it is about the change of OS which is so easy.

But now my very first thought, reading your post :
Arghh .... don't do 10586.0 without Intona !
And then I *still* wonder about te combination of it all and what it brings. But also :

I think you have the Clairixa as well. So, formally (!) you'll need that short Clairixa and now that adds up (144 incl. shipping for you).

Man, I'm sitting back for 5 minutes here, and I can't decide either. I mean, if I hadn't had the OS RAM disk stuff, I probably never would have tried 10586.0 again and had never known it was the better one, with Intona now;
Without Intona 10586.0 would not have been the better one, and I sure was satisfied with 10074.

Ehm ... depend on me (and possibly soon others) that 10586.0 is the better one, while knowing that me and the others most probably all have a NOS1(a) which you have not ?

Your post is justified. wacko bzz

Ehm again ... if you need that 2nd Clairixa and you like to have the RAM OS SSD, then you save 44 on shipping ?
With the notice that this is actually 54 or so because now the shipping from here is in bulk to everyone and therefore 10 cheaper now ? (read : order something as small / light as Clairixa or SSD later and shipping will be 54 for you).

dntknw dntknw dntknw dntknw dntknw

I'm of not much help.

Robert, for me the Intona is a must, as it's the base.

I mean, when I get the SSD from Peter, I will have the almost perfect Phasure setup (RAM-OS, optimized XX, Clarixa, NOS1a-B75, Blaxius, Orelos). And yet the performance would still remain be sub-optimal - good but sub-optimal. Nothing can compensate for the problems in USB transmission. Nothing... other than the Intona. Sure, there may be an Intona 2 at some point, but upgrading to this probably wouldn't be too expensive, and certainly not necessary to enjoy your music.

I would recommend that you buy an Intona and a cheap 15cm length of USB cable. I would use the short USB at the PC end and use your current Clarixa after the Intona. When more funds become available (great way of focusing your savings - just eliminate those mid-morning cappuccinos, or whatever, for a short while), order a SSD and a short Clarixa from Peter.

Basics first.

HTH.

Thanks for the replies.

I've been holidaying in Sunburn't Australia with no HiFi for 4 weeks. They say the average HiFi in Australia is a bed side clock, I think its true. Hard to find a dedicated Hifi shop even in the big cities.

Mani I've ordered the Intona today I did think it was probably the way to go.

Peter my original question re new setup of 10586 is do I follow the same procedure as 10074 as per your instructions?

I will go the OS ram route shortly and will need the short Clarixa.

I note on CA forum that one person who bought Intona said it was better sounding with cheap cables versus his Lightspeed $$$$ with no Intona.

Hi Robert,

Yea, forgot to respond to that setup thing and recall that I easily wanted to say : see my sig. But it might not be *that* easy because it anticipates another DAC.
The other answer would be : I don't see any real differences I applied between 10074 and 10586.0 except for the SFS. So generally, 10074 is faster, so with 10586.0 you will run into limits earlier.
Can you work with that ?

I note on CA forum that one person who bought Intona said it was better sounding with cheap cables versus his Lightspeed $$$$ with no Intona.

First off, this doesn't tell all because the person involved does not use XXHighEnd and "better" has many qualifications world wide (haha). But since we don't know about either (mutual side), why not believe it as absolute truth. However :
One can't speak about "better sounding" because expressing it that way, it is personal. So is a more slamming bass better because you're a disco freak and don't care about accuracy ?
I tend to say Intona makes the music more real(listic). But I already noticed last night that this is not so for 10074+Intona. Actually I planned to stay all my 3-4 listening hours with 10074 but after 30 minutes I found it a waste of the evening and turned back to 10586.0.
Now the crux : Would that have changed with another USB cable ? I don't think so and the relative difference in the realism realm, stays. Funnily enough I tend towards the idea of another USB cable making it "better" (or worse) because of pronouncation of bass and highs. Intona is not about that. It is more about putting through what's put in (from the say the sound file).

As you can see I can blah a lot. But this is my idea or feeling about it ... (at 4:30 am).
