I tried conducting the following Latency test on many different makes of laptops; sony/dell/toshiba with core 2 duo processors/3 GB Ram/Vista o/s & they all failed the test. http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

How does one select a laptop with the certainty that it would not have dropouts.

Arvind,

I have HP laptop dv5 model and I have latency for about 50 - 100 mikro seconds. This is great I think. Did use the same latency checker.
In order to get low latency on laptop, you need to stop from running anything that you do not need.
