Crazy thought :

When this is W8 in both cases, I think this can happen. W8 plays VERY strange tricks with the Volume. And might you not know it : yes, it can change it, which makes it not much "bit perfect".

Is it W8 in your situation(s) ?

I'm using W7 only at the moment. I believe that xxhighend is ativated - I can activate xtweaks and boot to minimize OS. But there is a glitch: The first time there is a system message that it's not possible to boot to minimize OS. After rebooting without going to minimize OS it's possible to to so.
I can still change the output volume with the Thesycon tool. Seems that they are using a digital volume algorithm too.

If the reboot into Minimized fails, just try it again. DO NOT REBOOT YOURSELF because things won't work then.
There will be an update for this most probably later today.

Yes, I am sure the Thesycon driver contains volume manipulation. The least you can do is set either the Windows Volume and the Driver's volume at full (-0dBFS) and see whether you can indeed get them to -0dBFS (notice that they will influence eachother). When it is not possible to have them equal, something is wrong and you will never have a bit-perfect base.

Also notice that in the device's properties (start from the speaker icon in the taskbar tray) there's multi-channel sh*t and this too can have set the volume at other than -0dBFS. There's much more in there which can be wrong. You will see ...
In the end you should disable all the "WDM" stuff (hence what is visible through that speaker icon in the taskbar tray), assumed you are using Kernel Streaming. And then *still* you won't be sure that all is out of the way.

I had to reinstall the waveio drivers after upgrading the xxhighend version and everything is working fine yet.
