Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Firewire connection

Laurenta, thank you very much for this help. The Texas Instruments chip set indeed seems to be the best. And as said elsewhere, a good firewire interface really matters for sound.
I never heard that the Mac doesn't work (in fact for Engine#1 and #2 it just works) but since not many people use it (I think) I can't be sure just *everything* works as intended (but I wouldn't know why not).
Btw, I see in your signature that you assume that Q1 as well as the Digital Volume is fixed because of the demo version, but this is not the case. They are enabled when you use Vista/Engine#3 ...
Thanks again, Peter

Thank you Gerard. Small question : It isn't so that in this occasion during playing you added that second album ? I ask this because this is known and still to be solved ... (most often the currently playing track is then the last track playing, and then all stops).

Gerard, I'm sure you mentioned this in your first post here because something occurred to you which wasn't normal. But if I may ask, would you still recognize this as something happening to 0.9v-1 which didn't happen in the before versions ? Or, how many times did you have this by now (0.9v-1) ? GerardA, In fact the same questions, although from your post I can't derive that the sound stops for the duration of exactly one track. Any new opninions by now maybe ? Johan, I know you said "same here", but you quoted less from gerard than Gerard actually said. In other words, to me it looks like that for you the music doesn't continue playing at a next track (after one being silent). Is it correct that you didn't try this (or that with you the music just never starts playing again ? i don't see this error for a while No matter Johan said this, I think everybody agrees that these things happened before (longer time ago) *and* that actually nobody explicitly reported this (not that I recall). But, I know it was there, but I do NOT recognize that the time cursor kept on running in any circumstance. I only wantto say : if you are referring to the past, please be sure that you refer to the same thing. Also, I don't think anything can have changed in 0.9v-1 opposed to the before (0.9u-16) version, but : I do think things can have changed on the matter of "stops playing at the end of a track" in several of the 0.9-u versions and the different means of calculating the length of a track. I am sure one of these 0.9-u versions solved the problem regarding this as how I encountered it myself, but I don't know which 0.9u version exactly. I must assume your problem is related to the (wrong) calculation of the running time of the track. If this is the case -and when it happens- you can recognize this by the fact of the time cursor being at the end long before the track is at the end of playing (with long I mean 30 seconds or so), or the other way around, the cursor is long before reaching the end, but the track actually already is (note : this is *not* how I ever encountered the problem myself the longer time ago, but anyway). It would be great if you all could confirm that your WAVs concerned are from another origine than EAC, or that you just don't know because you bought it over the Internet etc. Whatever it is causing this, so far this still did not happen even one time to me ...

Mike, I am sorry. Now I read your both posts again I must agree with you. But please put your configuration and all in your signature. I may be able to find a pattern in there, especialy when more people are going to tell the same. One thing I know (and this is addressed to Gerard as well) : a track shorter than 14 seconds or so won't play. This is due to the buffering in memory, and can be solved by me with explicit attention. I just did not so far, combined nobody mentioning it. I noticed myself at playing the Mattheus Passion last Easter. Didn't work well.

Hi Mike,
I am quite sure your problem is not the same as what this topic is about; If you have a MacBook and/or a DDDac it is kind of know (from a year ago though), and if not, please tell me your configuration and which Engine you use.
Thanks, Peter

I'm sorry you are having problems. I know, the instructions for Vista - by now - are unnecessary complex. The only thing you need to do is unzip the XXHighEnd-09-v1.zip as it is at the bottom here into a folder you appoint and run the XXHighEnd.exe coming from that. Please let me know if you encounter any problems with that. Googling for XX will get you porn and players I think. But I think you know by now that the player isn't called like that. Peter

Thank you Brent.
That debug prompt was indeed left in there because I expected it to happen. Small problem : I don't know anymore why. However, apparently you now have it. Here's the (only) comment I put to that :
*** 18-02-2008,PS, Below goes wrong in Windows2008 (?) ***
This is about setting the Wallpaper; Maybe you can dig up why I put this comment there ? It *must* have come from you somehow ... Note that this comment is not 64 bit related; only Windows2008.
Do you remember the debug version I posted in order to let you test Windows2008 ? The below zip is similar, but for 64. Please let me know which messages pass by.
Peter
PS: It can well be that setting an official Wallpaper (I mean, put there by you) helps. Or the other way around, remove it explicitly ? ... Oh ... What I just notice in the program, is that the "preparation" for changing the Wallpaper (which the error is about) is performed unconditionally. Meaning : the setting "CoverArt as Wallpaper" won't change a thing to this.
Edit : I don't klnow whether you got some results from this, but please note that below zip is not compatible with (due) higher XXHighEnd versions. So it can be used with 0.9v-1 only.

Well Sverre, if I am right in my assumptions as expressed in the before post, this card only allows for 44.1 Khz sample rate ? About Terratec ... I think there are a few topics floating around in here about that brand. They are not all that positive IMO ... (oops). Then, the pdf you provided shows no word about Vista. But it does about XP ... Preliminary conclusion ? no Vista drivers ... But in this case the hardware should be able to do the 24 bits 96 KHz (digital hence SPDIF). Analogue-wise even more (192KHz). So this needs time (for them to create the appropriate drivers). Hmm ... Would you really need more than 44K1 ? I don't ... Edit (forgot this) : What about #Engine1 then? That one works for me and use 44 kHz? Engine#1 (and #2 for that matter) allows Vista to resample internally. If you are able to look at the output sample rate (SPDIF) you'd see it. This is 100% sure. About the observation of GerardA below (analogue output) ... YMMV. Or more honest, I just don't know.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Download Area and Release Notes / XXHighEnd Model 0.9v-1 (Support for Vista/64 and more)
|
on: June 01, 2008, 11:42:53 pm

Vista 64 bits is now supported. There is no reason to believe that XP 64 bits won't work just the same, as well as that for Vista 64 bits Engine#1 and Engine#2 won't work. This was not tested though ! The 0.9v series are meant to add some conveniency features. For 0.9v-1 the following has been changed : - In the Settings Area a field DataFolder has been added;
The folder appointed here, will hold the Playlists (the .PLXX files). At this moment nothing else is held there, as nothing else is suitable for that. The exception might be the file that holds your License Code, but at this moment it seems kind of tricky to move that from the normal "current" XXHighEnd folder. Btw, this file is called XXHighEnd1xx.dat; didn't you know ? ... you just can copy that into your new XX current folder (for that one PC), and all keeps on working. As long as the field has not been filled, the current XXHighEnd folder will be used (as before).
- As it appeared, wrongly tagged (but what means "wrong" ?) MP3 and FLAC files, could cause concerning files not to be loaded into the Playlist Area (and instead an error message was shown);
In this case, for MP3 the old (more time consuming) method is used to get hold of the running time (which it is about really), and for FLAC a new (just as fast as before) method was created to do the job. When either respective case is occurring, this is noticeable by the running time having no fraction in the seconds (e.g. 03:12.00).
- When a (selected) track was saved from the Playlist Area (by means of rightclick), the name saved caused a hierarchical folder structure to occur in the appointed Galery which really was wrong (there shouldn't be a folder structure at all, just the name of the track within the appointed Galery folder (which by itself can be held in a hierarchical structure)).
This has been solved now. Note that any wrongly saved "structures" from the past can be reloaded from that structure (Library Area), loaded into the Playlist Area, and re-saved (which then happens as intended).
- As 0.9u-16 promised to solve, in a most rare situation it could still happen that tracks from a before loaded (longer) Playlist played after the new (thus shorter) Playlist finished playing. Although it could be reasoned that this happened due to a mis-behaving PC, it has been solved taking that into account.
- A few versions back a provision was made to allow more space for the Playlist combobox;
As it appeared this worked out contra productive in the case the form's lower boundary was dragged upwards. If all is right this has been properly solved now.

Pedal, Since you didn't respond anymore, I guess I need some ... My response may have looked like some joke, but I really don't know what you mean. Of course, I can imagine something with a(n appointable, like I agreed upon earlier) folder for playlists and then sub folders in there, but the latter would be something which was never discussed before afaik (so that one about "reminding" ). The setup needed for that would be way different from the current one, and personally I don't think it is worth it (??). Why ? Because I don't see the difference with setting up similar by means of Galeries (see Library Area). And you can have as many sub folders as you like in there. Note : Selected tracks in the Playlist Area + Rightclick allows saving to a Galery with the tracks in the Playlist Area as a base). One thing : The latter (I think) currently saves the name/path a kind of wrongish (although it will work at playback), but *that* can be solved. ??
