I´ve just been reminded why I haven´t thrown this software and replaced it by Itunes!
The y4 works great!
1st impressions
right "out of the box" same settings as y3a, it sounds better resolved in the mids and up.(slightly) improved midrange and up dynamics
funny but the soundstage is denser in the centre with better depth,maybe a little narrower but the channels hangs better together. my ss width is maybe narrowed from 6,5 to 5,5 meters but with better centrefill.
bestr with arc pred and quad ? may that be correct?
q 2 and q3 tested down to 0 but too dull and reset to 15 on both

dhd is a writing error for disc!
i tried to add a piece to the playlist from a different hd than I was already playing from and the program went into a state of not responding
tried it again and now it works ok?
be back if/when it occurs again

)y3a played very crisp and clean but when I tried to fetch an album from another dhd than the one I was playing from the whole program got stuck and did not respond

the one I use now is from a RATSHACK like store in Norway and I don´t remember the name but it seems wellbuilt and generates no artifacts as far as I am aware of

hello folks
in the persuit of being able to play hi-rez through my Buffalo 9008 (and 9032 in a week or so) i manged to hook up to my musicservers motherboard via the on board spdif output.
so now I´m running BOTH opticis optical usb(with proper psu) and 10m spdif (of decent quality) up from my musicserver in the basement and into the Buffalo.
at the flick of a few dipswitches  I´m now able to A/B the 2 different connections:
the spdif much to my surprise sounds crisper and a little less "dull" than the usb.despite that jitter-wise the spdif is supposed to be inferior according to some sources
the bonus is of course that the spdif will transfer hi-rez as well.
so that was a positive experience for me
any other views on the matter?

who cares what format it is....it don´t mean a thing if it ain´t got that swing
playing on the spdif output via 10m cables from basement musicserver to Buffalo 9008 and all is well

with dac set to 16/192 it plays the hi rez files
the info on the track says 2/24/96

had to uninstall the soundmax software from ad to make it work
THEN I was allowed to set rates etc in the sound devices:see attachments
why i don´t get 24/192 in test I don´t know!
