This is on a stock xxhe PC.

Today I have new data.

I went to play some HD classical and I went looking through the list of icons.  I could not find Exotic Dances, Minnesota orchestra.  It's there.  I know it's there, but i could not find it.  So i went looking on the left pane's file browser.  From there i found, selected and played it.  (that Minnesota Orchestra album had been in my collection for more than one year.)

After selecting and playing from the left pane, that album now shows up in searches and in the list of albums in the center.

That should be a strong hint for you.

At this point Casandra Wilson was still not showing up as before... so I looked her up on the left pane.  There I noticed that I had selected the last track to be in my Nice folder.  So that was not enough to recognize the album.  From this point I don't think I fully loaded her album from there.  I think I kept looking for other HD tracks that might not show up.

Next, what happened?  Now Cassandra Wilson's latest album shows up in searches and on the icon list of albums in the center pane.  I think I only clicked on the folder for the album on the left pane and the folder opened up.   That's all.

This should be a stronger hint.

I'd guess the problem is not with the search.  The problem appears to be that the albums are not listed in the center pane to begin with.  If albums are visible in the center pane, they also show up on search.  Opposite appears also to be true:  If albums are NOT visible in the center pane, they also DON'T show up on search.

- HDTracks may have something to do with it somehow.
- 44.1 never seems to have the problem.
- I've seen the problem once with a 48/24.

xxHE correctly ignores DSF.  Many DSF files are stored there in my file system and they correctly don't show up in the center pane.  Could it have something to do with this "ignoring" function?   Perhaps the ignoring is too aggressive?

Charlie,

Oh I am sure (100%) it is not related to search as such. I think I told you how it works earlier in the topic ? So, exactly as you say.

What definitely can be related is the structure as such. For example :

\Music\Jazz\Dizzy G.\[music files]
\Music\Marilyn M\[music files]

is not the best because not on the same level. But, should work. But with this as the example, you can have all sorts of sub folders to higher level ones for Coverart purposes up to your DSF example. Btw I recall ISO causing problems in your version - solved here now.

\Music\Jazz\Dizzy G.\[music files]
\Music\Jazz\Dizzy G.\Bonus\[music files]

This surely will go wrong.

I will verify, but i am fairly certain that all that have problems have the following structure:

D: Music HDmusic (artist) (album) (music files)

I do have one iso file on the disk, not in these problematic folders.

This post is to verify that the above post is accurate. The data structure for these albums is:

D:\Music\HDmusic\(artist)\(album)\(music files)

I'm starting to think that this could be a user error on my part.  At some point i started using the date feature [D].  If this applies, it started at around the time frame of the Chicago X "problem".  Once i started using the D button,i may have started not explicitly refreshing the file list, manually.  The M and N buttons might also have confounded because or if they refresh the list and i use them inconsistently, then it can cause missing albums also inconsistently.

The flac problems were real for sure.

What are the "official"ways to refresh the list?

Aha ...

Charlie, what I recognize from my own situation here, is that the "cache" used for those M and N and the other buttons in that left section - is not refreshed when albums are added. Well, now I think of it, what I mentioned is for sure, but I'm merely talking about Galleries. So, add e.g. a track with Alt-z to the Demo Gallery, and it won't appear until you use the Search button at the bottom and then it will be explicitly obtained from disk instead of that cache (which is a file) and will be put into the cache automatically.

This Gallery stuff is on my ToDo list because it possibly can be solved (but not easy) but normal Original Locations ... impossible. So, there will be no means that the system can detect that you shovled in a new album somewhere. Theoretical solution : have an option somewhere to never use that cache. But is it ? now it will always take as long as with using the Search button. Good for 1000 albums, but not for 10K+.

Anyway, I'm sure that you found the issue yourself. Nice work.
Regards,
Peter

Wait wait wait wait a minute!  For sure searching does not refresh the list.why? Because search is how discovered the problem to begin with.I would search and the album wouldn't show up.

The only way to explain this discrepancy is if the top search bar works differently than the bottom search bar.  does it?

Btw ,  i don't use galleries; except for alt c and alt z.

Charlie, my "search" was about pressing that Search button. Nothing entered in either field (which, yes, do exactly the same).
