Hi Peter

I have recently replaced my steam driven laptop with a new one. Everything is fine but I have a minor problem when in unattended. Operation in attended is fine the XX display is fine and font etc is all OK. When I go into unattended operation i get wallpaper displayed correctly the font of the track listing is a bit small (can I change that?) but I could live with that. However, whilst still in Unattended and I press Alt X the XX display comes up but it is smaller than it was in attended and the buttons overlap (although font looks ok). If I then click the Stop button music stops and the XX display is still "small". To get the XX display to return to its original correct size I have to close XX and restart it. How can I fix it such XX display is shown correctly in unattended.

Let me know if you want any screenshots and I will post.

Cheers

Paul

Paul, I got this problem when using a screen of higher resolution and having to set the text size to something other than 100% (say 200%) to make text legible in windows.  It is a windows display setting, and windows often does it automatically.  Seems that XXHE can't handle that and because my tablet is also used for work it has been a real problem for me having to change display settings 20 times a day.  So much so that I have not listened or even turned on my XXHE/Mach III/NOS1a for months now.

It is funny the little things that cause us to stop doing something we love, but I personally can't handle that inconvenience.

Cheers,

Anthony

ACG, Gosh that's all a bit sad not listening for months, I use an old Samsung tablet just as Xx remote nothing else.

Mind you I have an old monitor on my music server and mostly use this, its only in the next room, hardly ever use my tablet.

Can't go a day without listening!!

Hmm ... Still it has been made such that all should be able to cope. So maybe at some stage something sneaked in that undermines it now.

Paul, or Anthony, can you give me a DPI (Windows) setting on one hand, and the Scale Factor of XXHighEnd on the other ?
Also, at which native resolution of the display is this ?

Best regards,
Peter

Peter,

I started a thread a while ago about this issue...here it is...

Will fire everything up again within the next few days and send through the relevant screenshots should Paul not beat me to it.

Robert,

Am still listening, just to a different dac/Roon or to records.  Would really like to get back to XXHE/NOS1a though.  Had thought about buying another tablet just for controlling XXHE but I am so over single use tablets:  I have two iPads and a Surface Pro for single uses for work and the thought of a fourth tablet that cannot be multitasked gives me chills.

Hopefully we'll get there.

Anthony, I now see that that topic ended in you not understanding something. Hence it never was worked out.

Please notice (Paul too) : This can only be about the DPI setting of Windows, as I never have any problem with this whatsoever, BUT I also never set that DPI setting different than 100%. Still all should be able to cope ...

Paul, or Anthony, can you give me a DPI (Windows) setting on one hand, and the Scale Factor of XXHighEnd on the other ?
Also, at which native resolution of the display is this ?

Peter - OK Scale Factor in XX is 1.7  and DPI on my "viewing laptop" is 150%  & display res is 2256x1504  ** BUT ** I have already "played" with these settings and they make no difference to the problem.

So it does not matter what DPI is set on the "viewing laptop" XX in minimised viewed via RDC is the same size on the laptop screen. And changing the scaling factor in XX does fix the problem either.

Note that if I use another computer as the viewing computer (in this a desktop PC) there are no problems via RDC the XX display in minimised is OK and that is regardless of the dpi settings on the viewing computer and changing scaling in XX does what you would expect and is shown the same in attended and unattended.

Hope that is not too confusing

Peter

Not sure if this helps but in the first photo attached XX is just going into minimised mode (ie Play has just been clicked). What happens next is shown in the second photo where the "Wait for service to stop....." message reduces in size just before XX fires back up in minimised mode. Note that this does not happen when I view via another computer regardless of the dpi or scaling settings.

Thank you, Paul.

Interesting. Do you perhaps have any idea yourself what could be the difference between this laptop and the other PC's not showing the issue ? W10 version ?

... Which brings me to the oddity of you telling about the issue as you did all right - even showing it per photograph ... but this is your remote ! So this is not where XXHighEnd plays at all - right ?
This makes it a sort of RDC issue of which I am not sure whether it is under your control in the first place. Anyway, now knowing this, can you think further a bit ?

Also ... referring to the topic Anthony linked to ... are you used to seeing Scrollbars ? I don't mean "today" per se, but always before ? If Yes, it is a good indication that your settings of the RDC client (the remote) have never been right. But today it starts to bother because of (for example !) a not-equal resolution between the client and the host(-capabilities).

Peter

Hi Peter,

OK so I have been playing around with screen settings on the "viewing computer" but all settings are back to original settings and after a re-boot of the music (621) server all is OK now the XX display now shows correctly on the viewing computer when in minimised. For sure the settings are all the same as they were when I reported the problem so I do not know what has changed.

One of the mysteries of Windows I guess

Cheers

Paul

........ well kind of - XX display still comes back smaller in unattended (than in attended) in fact all looks the same as when I reported the problem with one exception the buttons do not overlap. So I am not sure if that is correct but with XX display looking OK just smaller well I can live with that. But is that "correct" because before XX display always came back in unattended the same size as attended.

** UPDATE ** mmm nothing has changed still the same problem please disregard above comment

Also ... referring to the topic Anthony linked to ... are you used to seeing Scrollbars ? I don't mean "today" per se, but always before ? If Yes, it is a good indication that your settings of the RDC client (the remote) have never been right. But today it starts to bother because of (for example !) a not-equal resolution between the client and the host(-capabilities).

Peter, please note that the fix is not to restart RDC when the XXHE screen comes back small from unattended, the fix is to restart XXHE, which indicates to me that the issue is with XXHE either when going into unattended (which Pauls photos shows everything becoming small - mine does the same) and/or when coming back from unattended when everything stays small.  Restart XXHE (not RDC) and everything looks correct again.

Rgds,

Anthony

Peter, I agree with Anthony it is something that is only a problem in unattended, when in attended everything is OK and the XX display is normal.
