Ha, great. OK, that is not the original topic, but at least I now know how it ended (and the person I was looking for is indeed the RMalits in that topic). Richard, does anything change to this issue when you use Core Appointment Scheme 1-3 ?
Now Richard never responded, but David, did you try this ? Peter

Well, IMO that can't be correct for a general procedure. It may play, but without MQA Decoding always. Although MQA Ltd will tell you that this is fine, it is super super poor. Only if the resulting file plays as 16/44.1 (or 16/48) it could be "doable", although still not the real thing it was ever (the CD). Peter

David - hmm ... it looks like you may have mixed up "patches" or something. I mean, I don't recognize any of this, while it is very easy for people to e.g. place an upgrade in the wrong path, use an old XXHE icon or whatever which could go theoretically wrong.
Don't you use the XXOSK onscreen keyboard (look for it in the XX folder) ? please try it and click on U or D (volume commands). Does it work from there ?
The black screen can easily be caused by other things. But start with the Setting "Don't do anything with Coverart" in XXHE Settings. It should be inactive of course. Try to mangle and set the Wallpaper just from within Windows. Often when you have it working from there, the normal behavior starts to appear as well.
Alt-u-/d not normally working, looks suspicious.
Best regards, Peter

Hey David, thank you for this !
Sadly I can't recognize what you are saying. I could try to literally mimic what you are doing, but therefore I must, well, know what you are literally doing.
Meanwhile I am fairly close to finishing this up, most 99% probably by not suggesting the 16 bit MQA albums as MQA (so they won't decode but you also won't like to play them because most probably it's Redbook CD mangled with).
Still I like to mimic your situation, David ! Peter

Hi Colin, The number of hours I worked on this (last early this morning ) starts to be countless. The solution (as per your proposal) seems to easy, but it is about the recognition of what's what. And per the initial changes I applied last November (yuk) I myself don't even have any indication any more (see below, all show without sampling rate). In the (impossible) mix is the changes Tidal applied to the search data, but at least that I could finish yesterday. This is how I today *have* to proceed with the MQA stuff, because currently it is completely useless. Plus, I don't want to take it out all together. And oh, what I sure *am* considering is not presenting the MQA16 stuff. As if it does not exist in Tidal. I mean ... *if* I would be able to show the 16 bits separately from the others, I'd still have the issue of what you report about : something is not treating the data as should (because of the illegal situation). Also this all includes the special search facility so you are able to avoid the MQA16 stuff (I half finished that earlier on), but looking at myself ... I would always used that. Thus leave them out all together seems a good solution to me ... Peter

Ah Coen, that is good news.
By now I forgot a litte, but at least all versions of everything related should exactly match. Thus the "-V2" should be in everything related. E.g. "the boot I named 'W10-14393 V2 BASE'" does not, at least not if I take you literally (the dash is missing). Somewhere in the back of my mind it tells that you can't have two versions of the same OS because you won't be able to differentiate between two times 14393.0 (or 14393). Thus if the OS name itself is also part of the "everywhere" you can only get there if the OS versions are different. But as said, by now I forgot a little ...

If you copied back from a backup, then that should just still be activated. If you only don't apply that full upgrade over it (better do nothing at first).
If it not clear to me whether that 2.06d stops. But if it does not, it is good to go for that patch.
