Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Version 0.9y-1d feedback

I've had the dreaded "engine 3 stopped working" error happen frequently with all versions of xx I've used, including 9x-7. Usually it happens about the same time that the gui and task bar disappear. I then "Alt/p and, usually, all is well, but its a little annoying to have to fuss with it to start. I have assumed that it's an issue with the external hard drive not responding quickly enough, a Wester Digital 500 gig. My directory structure, generally, is E/Music/ Artist/ Album. Though I have another folder between music and artist for classical and for jazz. I do not use galleries. Any suggestions?

Looks like the previous problem of xx not being able to switch from a 14/44 to a 24/96 song, or vice versa, in the same playlist is back. Additionally, the info tab which gives the bitrate isn't functional. No hurry here, love the improvements.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Just wondering about sound quality

Though I haven't had an extensive listening session, my first impression is that the sound quality has improved. The treble seems a little less thin, more dynamic, so I can go a bit louder and maintain superb sound. This jumped out at me right away but I really don't trust first impressions. You know how sometimes you "hear" what you want to hear. Anyone else had this experience?

Hi Peter. I really like the speed of 9y-1c. Everything here seems to run much faster and smoother. I also really like the way you can see tracks being processed in unattended, though both the first and last track don't get highlighted. The release notes only refer to the first track not being highlighted. Regarding other glitches the hotkey command for explorer, ALT R, doesn't work. Also when I pause in unattended, ALT E, and then resume play, ALT P, the track starts from the beginning. I think this was true of 9x-7 too.
Regarding sound quality, I'm going to post in the other thread, but all seems very well!

Well, learn something new every day. Set a "data" folder for playlists. Thanks, I guess I need a "XXHighEnd Instruction Manual for Dummies! Okay, the engine 3 crashes occur at the beginning of playback. It seems to happen when I repeatedly start, pause or stop and then resume play after changing selections. It never happens when I first start the player. I have 4 gigs of memory and I never que up more than 700 megs at a time, so I don't think its a memory issue.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Engine 3 issue

Recently, I seem to be getting a lot of "Engine 3 Stopped Working" errors. Sometimes if I close and restart XX the problem is fixed, but more often I have to restart the computer. Over the last several weeks I've reinstalled 9x-7 several times as a fix; that works for a while but the problem always returns. I suspect that it may have something to do with using playlists but I don't know for sure. Anyone else have this issue? Question: When I reinstall "7" should I delete the existing version in my 9x-7 directory or is it okay to unzip and copy over the existing version in my 9x-7 directory? I'd prefer doing the latter because created playlists are not in one subdirectory in my 9x-7 folder, rather they are scattered alphabetically in the 9x-7 directory. Any chance the next version could have a playlist subdirectory? That would make a clean reinstall easier. And for Christmas..... As always, no need for instant fixes. Living in time is my favorite thing to do. Am really interested in the overall results of measuring sound quality differences between the various players. Once thats been "'perfected", would love to see if there are measureable sound quality differences between the various ripping engines. Personally, I'm not sure there's a difference between EAC and WMP with error correction ticked......oops, sounds like the start of another thread. Have a good day.
