Geeze Roy, I had no idea. Learn something new every day around here. I do remember though the record player with one speaker, listening to 45's of the Beatles....

The remastered early Beatles cd's were originally recorded in mono. From what I read, digitaly, they sound much better in mono than in stereo. That might be one reason.  Wink

Is it possible to add a track to a list thats being played? Anytime I've tried this the track gets added to the list but it doesn't automatically play. If it's not currently possible, it would be a nice feature to add.

Just heard from M2tech. They will be releasing a wasapi driver for both Vista and Windows 7 sometime soon.

Ditto to Pers thoughts.....and January is certainly better than February!

Have a great holliday.
1132  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9y-4 - w00t on: December 09, 2009, 01:55:58 pm
Well, it took a while but slow learners do learn..... About three weeks ago I reconfigured my system: got the dac next to the laptop and replaced an 8 ft USB and a 6 foot S/PDIF cables with a .5 meter kimber USB and S/PDIF cables, respectively. sh*t. 9y-4 with double arc prediction makes my delta-sigma sing. I had no idea just how smeared the highs were until now.....

Right now it sounds so good that replacing the laptop with a desktop just has to be on hold for a while longer.... Happy

No problem. Have a great week. Look forward to testing the m2tech usb/spdif gizmo Thursday or Friday.

Am leaving tomorrow morning for work and won't be back till Thursday. Any chance one could preview engine#4 sometime today? Just wondering.... Happy

P, did you apply all the tweaks in the "Tweaking Vista Virtually Dead" thread. I did and, with the exception of shutting down indexing, I had to go back and reset them to their respective defaults. After applying all the Tweaks on my laptop XX began to run really slow, after reversing them performance was greatly improved. Probably it was one or two of the tweaks that was at fault but I didn't take the time to test which ones it was, I just changed them all back to the default.

Regarding indexing, that Tweak, IMHO, should be in the release notes of each version. The library tab just doesn't work with Indexing left on.
1137  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Goodby USB, Hello SPDIF on: December 04, 2009, 03:10:42 pm
Well, since engine #4 relies on Kernel Streaming I guess I won't send it back (I have up to 30 days to do so.) The spdif audio  from the hiface is much superior to what I currently use. Can't wait to try it with XX!

Am at work now so I can't do any testing. Because the highface is supposed to work with Direct Sound it really should be showing up in "Sounds" in controll panel. I'm going to email the M2tech about this issue and will let you know what they say.

With XX it doesn't show up as an output device in the settings tab. I don't get any error messages. To get it to work with media monkey I had to download Steve Monks kernel streaming DLL as a plug in to media monkey, then select that plug in within media monkey. Whats weird is that it doesn't show up in "Sounds" tab of control panel at all, but it does show up in device manager under Sound Controllers.

Ordered the Hiface usb/spdif converter and it arrived today. Doesn't work with xxhighend, so I'll be sending it back unless...... I tried it in kernel streaming mode with media monkey and it sounded MUCH better than the M-Audio Audiophile usb that I currently use to convert usb to spdif. Now lets hope Engine #4 uses kernel streaming, cause media monkey just sucks compared to XX.

The wallpaper, when xx doesn't play, disappeared too when it happened. I had to reset it.
