So far you are the first to respond, so I can't tell really.
I must say honestly though that I couldn't test it u/i playing, because the laptop I now use for testing fails earlier, but then with an error message. Otoh, you have the Fireface, and that just should be working (but again, not tested with that laptop, because I just can't -> no Firewire connection).
Then, did you look at the Fireface Mixer (various settings) in order to see something move there ? Remember, you can be just right, because I didn't hear back from anyone as off yet ... Btw, if Engine#2 plays, I think you selected the appropriate Fireface "mix". Hmm ...

Ultimate Audio Playback / Download Area and Release Notes / XXHighEnd Model 0.8a (with Engine #3)

Okay, retrial ... See the releasenotes here : http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=69.0Additionally about Engine #3 : I found that not all Device Drivers support Exclusive Mode. Appropriate messages are built in for this. Besides that, I also found that Devices (or their drivers) do not support the needed Sample Rate. For instance, the device could support 48K only, which is not suitable for 44K1 playback without resampling (which Engine#3 a.o. was made for). It should switch to "Shared mode" and address the resampling engine from Vista, but so far I didn't manage to get it to that (it might be a Vista bug). Please carefully quote the messages you may receive when you have problems. Again, good luck !

Yeah ... but not all that long when you deliberately leave the power cord behind because you have enough at home ... which I don't because it's a special one as it turns out now ... So I'm kind of running against the clock with a draining battery ... ... I got rid of the error message, but no sound yet. I guess it will be tomorrow night the earliest.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / Re: Linn Records 24/96 master material available for download

There is a good chance that the offered 24/96 master-quality-material will lift audio quality further up! You say it with some ease ... to my understanding these are REAL masters, hence the digital files used to burn the CDs (wrong, SACDs). So this is very important I think. A bit of a pity is that my DAC doesn't do 24 bits (nor yours I think ). Okay, more or less "decent" converting to 16 bits is possible of course but it would be such a pity ... IMHO this should be better than SACD (where the masters were made for, as they explained themselves). Nice find !

Also I'd like to know this :
One of the files in the latest zip is this one : XXEngine3.exe.intermediate.manifest If you delete that (but keep it somewhere else) ... does that change anything ?
Thanks again. Peter

Thanks ...
Can you verify by Taskmanager that XXEngine3.exe is running after you pressed Play (for a track) in XXHighEnd ?
Btw, do NOT use tracks with diacretical marks ! ... because then you wouldn't have sound indeed (in the current version).

Sorry to be such a nuisance. Oh, you're not. If *I* only knew how to help here. And you shouldn't do it on your own either ... The fact that the dropouts increase at a higher samplerate -as you described it- says enough I think. Do note that the upsampling comes right after XX and is done by the OS. Well, in your Vista case of course. I'm not sure what to do with it (because it should be the drivers) ... but can you perhaps recognize that the dropouts occur each time at the exact same place (in a track) ? Again, dunno what to do whith it, but who knows something shedds a light ... nothing on the device manager is actually called a motherboard! No ... this is about the various chips which are on the mobo, and *they* need upgrading. But I really never done it. Chances are high that #3 goes around your issue, but then first #3 has got to work at your systems. Note though that XX itself (which would be the case then) doesn't go higher than 88K2. Just don't give up. Today I suddenly found solutions (C++) for things which I couldn't find for 4 months ...
