Hey Dan, cost me $96 US and, at first, I sorta felt like you. BUT, it's totally worth it. What you will find to be the best ever just keeps getting better and better. Honestly I don't think you will find a better bang for your buck regarding audio.

Hey John, unfortunately my window for DIY closed "a few years back" so I'm afraid that the mod you described is beyond my skill level, or lack thereof. However, if I can get it working with XX and your willing, I'd be happy to have you tweek it for a fair fee? First though, there's the issue of getting it to work with engine 4. No big deal if your not interested, the Hiface sounds so much better than my m-audio spdif conversion.

Hey John, am wondering what playback software you've used your hiface with and whether the device shows up in control panel for you. Mine works in Media Monkey and shows up in that softwares kernel streaming configuration window, but it doesn't show up as a sound option in windows control panel. Am wondering if this is standard or if there is an issue with the driver or the device itself. Neither Marco at M2tech or the guy at Tweekgeek, where I bought it, has addressed this question when I contacted them. The fact that I got it working in MM, I guess, caused them to not respond to this question.

Hi Arvind. I'll post here with results. In Media Monkey the Hiface sounds incredible compared to my current set up. Sure hope I can get it to work with XX cause I'm past the 30 day window for returning it. Am disappointed to hear what Peter says about the manufacturer's attempt at a WASAPI driver. I was told that such a driver would be released this week.....still waiting. However, if the hiface can work with the new engine#4 I'll return to my "happy place".

yes, I can get it to work now with Media Monkey even though it does not show up in control panel/sounds. Will wait for 9y-5 to see if it can be configured to work. I didn't return it cause M2tech told me they would have a WASAPI driver out this week-- still waiting-- and this other guy told me he'd have kernel streaming out in xx in January.....looked like a win win to me, though it has been an exercise in patience!

In my quest to find an affordable NOS dac that would let me experience the virtues of QAP, I've been doing quite a bit of reading. For me this is dangerous cause I'm no scientist, engineer, computer programmer or even a true audiophool who is experienced in identifying the "best" sound. I do love music and, as I've proceeded past my zenith, I've come to appreciate more kinds of music, especially classical, than ever before. XXhighend has been a revelation for me regarding what good sound "is", and I have totally accepted that a NOS dac is the only way to get to the very best that xxhighend has to offer. However, the other day I ran across this thread at Head-fi: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f7/nos-dac-marketing-bs-438220/index4.html and now, after reading Dan Lavry's responses in the thread I am totally confused........ I'm sure that the upsampling dacs he talks about are multi-bit and not just delta-sigma. What's the difference and if they are so good why wouldn't Peter be develpoing a multibit dac instead of a NOS. HELP.......(in laymens terms if possible.....)
