And guys, *never* switch off Crack Detect. It is there for a good reason. It is allowed to be switched off only when you know in advance things are just right, like with DTS and a DTS receiver; If you have to switch it off for normal playback because otherwise things won't play, please warn me instead ! Even if you don't hear anything wrong with it !! Peter
Hi Peter This is a vital bit of info for new users who have not followed the history of XXHighend, as it avoids any possible damage to your speakers during this software development phase. Its never happened to me, but the warning needs higher profile than lost in this thread - perhaps in the Technical Workout section. Happy new year, Chris Or let a extra warning (With explaining) pup up when switched off....

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Volume control w6

G'day Peter, may I suggest an addition to the onboard volume control which may prevent shattered windows and bleeding ears. Within the settings area, would it be possible to set an explicit, user defined, upperlimit that the volume control cannot exceed, eg. -30dB. What this should then do is prevent the volume slider control from physically rising any further than that value. Although I don't use the onboard volume control currently ( I use preamp for that ), I may well bypass the preamp in the future. The thought of having full power going to my speakers because of a slip of a mouse wheel is too scary to contemplate Cheers, Russ I like this idear.... Somekind of safe button for the wife.....

Peter, With a click on the "V" label above the Digital Volume slider now the volume will go up with one notch. Note that the mousewheel can also be used to change the volume (after the slider has been clicked to make it the "active control").
You now that when i like to use the wheel from the mouse, the volume will not rise one step but two notch instead? And could it be a bit bigger? I mean the V button to move it one step up?

In addition I notice that occasionally between 2 tracks a very short moment of another track is played. Yep, and as "promised" in the release notes . I have it myself once-twice per evening, but it seems kind of standard for the last track of the playlist. Peter, I have that also but not with the last track... it was the second track just now.... sometime's two times with one cd.

Peter, Question: Is it possible to make a special settings file. Meaning i do not load a new XX model over the previous one. When you do not do that a question is asked to load in the old settings. (Wich do not work offcourse) maybe you can make a file or such that can be ticked in a old XX map (wich contains the right settings) to make it work.... Or do you have something else in mind? Grtzzzzzzz

Peter, I was wondering do you allready have thoughts what to do with this? Do you have to rebuild XX or do you think it will be easy to configure it for Windows 7. Or is it too soon to think about this. Oh and write as much as you like..... I love those writings Grtz

The difference is the added distortion I hear riding on top of the music with the HDD compared to the SSD The reason i asked was this what you wrote... And maybe this will be also for the music on the hdd. And maybe when you like to listen to a complete cd('s) it could be worth the trouble to copie that cd ('s) ( temporary) to SDD before listening. Btw. Gerard: see you have selected Prosessor Sch. 3. I am getting better sound with "No appointment" here instead of Schema 3. With Sch. 3 it sounds more "edgy" and I feel a unconscious need to gnash my teeth together... Ah ok thanx.... will give that a try....
