Telstar is right about about the sluggyness, xx is very slow, to select and play an album takes ages, I really mean dead slow. And when xx finally plays a track, it just stops when track is finished.................
But I sure love the looks and sound coming from it

Hi,
There can be audible differences in the PCI slot you use. The rule is: use PCI(e) slot nearest to processor for audio. (shorter lines) But for me this is not thru (because its a "bad" slot, dont know why but it just sounds worse) Do experiment with this, you can also do some shielding of your soundcard (or maybe it is already within a metal casing) especially when sitting next to videocard.
Cheers,

4x PCM1704U-K = US$ 60 (incl) I also ordered these from asia, 2 years ago Hmm ... maybe two years ago the prices were different. But also notice that whatever company it is overthere, it must be very reliable (or just known to you) once you're into these higher quantities. I already send some emails around: Never finished my own dac build (your fault, haha), so I still have a pair of those pcm-1704's, you even had them in your hands when I was at your place. You could test those. I dont expect any response from Asia, but maybe who knows. it is already 2.5 years ago, just went thru 3 years of mails, and yep I found the regarding mails I also think you need them on a feeding-strip for machine SMD build, right ? (they are)

Quote How will mobo still effect sound quality with NOS1 connected ?
Sheer impossible. I didn't test (swap) anything for mobos, but I just don't see how it would be possible. The MB shouldn't do/add/contribute anything to anything. You can have a lousy PSU as well. You will see ...
The speed remains important though.
Thnx Peter, Thats all I needed to know, this is good news actually. This makes it a whole lot easier to build a dedicated pc, good job. So Gerard just keep this mobo, no problem. I made the Winmate PSU choice because of same price range, high(er) efficiency, silence, separate ac/dc. By the time you are maybe experimenting with pre room-correction, x-overs, filtering, dsp's and such Then you might (maybe) consider a I7 chip (with a 1366 mobo or later innovations when available) But before we get this going, that ill be another job. (several years of experimenting) Happy

Btw dont use the setup disc that comes with the mobo, it probably offers you all sorts of stuff you dont want or need, and they are not the latest drivers anyway.
Just download latest bios with @bios, it installs the new bios automaticly for you (but always check first) So you dont have to flash anymore. Download latest mobo and chipset drivers directly from gigabyte also optional is AHCI/RAID drivers. Gigabyte also has green-lan, so if lan port is not connected it disables itself.
Better come overhere and I will show you all. Its a fast PC so the install wont take that long, tweaking it takes a bit longer. Maybe do some psu and temp testing before you put the final build next to your amps.

I predict it will be better as the MSI mobo you have there in now. Also i think that the winmate psu unit(s) will make more of a difference. Better on paper doesnt mean sh*t (poep), without testing or listening. You can try to locate the right mobo (if you can find it somewhere on the globe). How will mobo still effect sound quality with NOS1 connected ? Any earthmoving achievements on this Peter ? (galvanic seperation and psu) eitherway, you are NOS1 ready PS: are you already building ?

Ugh, Cuetools 2.09 now also reports the track and albums peaks in the same log file. So if you want to use xx normalize function, you can adjust it accordingly! Maybe Peter can automate this now values are known and logged in every album folder. Also different CD mastering methodes can be found more easely this way, just by looking at the track-peaks [CUETools log; Date: 19/05/2010 19:34:50; Version: 2.0.9] [AccurateRip ID: 00178d1f-00c2ef33-8010470a] found. Peter, What would be the best way to use 2 SSD's in a dedicated PC (not in raid mode) I was thinking of using 1x 30GB for OS and 60GB for gallery (for Gerards build) Where should I put xx, on OS drive or on the Gallery drive. And what about the intermediate files, can I use the advantage of 2nd SSD for that too, I guess not (its about writing speed, spinning disc would be better, I think) Although I currently use a spinpoint hdd as intermediate drive, I think this solves the issues with "Start engine3 during converting" glitches at low latency settings. (This is why you made this right ?) Your thoughts please, about the best layout...... PS: Nice build Mani, I7 860 should do 1M SuperPi calculation below 10 sec ! (mine does 13.790 sec on a Q9550 @ 3.40Ghz)
