151  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: B'ASS First Review HERE AT LAST!!! on: June 06, 2017, 09:47:05 am
Hi Peter,

Sure will try out the SFS & Q settings.

It's possible based on Bert's suggestion I had increased the gain in the Hypex by 6dB. Maybe that was inadequate as I had to increase further 0.8dB. So you're right it's not apple to apple comparison.

Best regards,

Arvind

Hi Mani,

You're spot on AP sounds much better than custom filters. However in my set up Phisolator is much better than Intona.

Hi Guys,

The NOS G3 is just another brilliant upgrade from Peter. If I hadn't listened to it I wouldn't have believed that SQ could improve so dramatically. Clarity is phenomenal, especially in the mid range. Poorly recorded CD's which I would normally give a pass are now certainly listenable.

The only area the G3 lacks is a bit shy in the bass section. Fortunately with the Orelo's at my disposal this can be easily rectified.

Congratulations Peter for a super job. Would be surprised if it could get any better than this. Lord only knows how many times all of us have said that & been proved wrong each time.

Best regards,

Arvind

Well I hope this topic leads to something worthwhile.

Great. I'm sure you'll find an improvement in the SQ.

Cheers

Hi Gerard,

Control panel/Network & Internet/Network Connections/right click on Ethernet/ click properties from drop down menu/select internet protocol version4 (TCP/IPv4)/double click/select use only the following IP address/in IP address enter 192.168.1.1/press Tab which will give subnet mask 255.255.255.0/click ok.

Same process for the other PC or laptop except enter IP address as 192.168.1.2.

Now you've created static IP address for each PC.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Arvind
157  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Ethernet vs USB on: May 02, 2017, 01:58:31 pm
Hi Peter,

Just to give you a start Andreas Koch of Playback Design is offering Ethernet connection in his DAC. I know a few blokes using it with Roon & they claim it sounds far better than USB.

158  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Ethernet vs USB on: May 02, 2017, 10:13:58 am
Hi Peter,

On various occasions you have expressed the limitations or pitfalls or difficulties in implementing USB connection.

Why not use Ethernet to transfer data? Is this feasible or better or worse?

Probably a very strange question from a layman.

Arvind

Try a laptop as music server. Won't make noise.

Hi Gerard,

In my opinion, you need to connect audio pc, music server & NAS to an Ethernet switch .

Create static IP address for all 3, XXHE pc, music server & NAS.

RDP connection between XXHE PC & music server.

Then connect music server & remote tablet over wifi, maybe Bluetooth but I'm not sure.

Best regards,

Arvind

Hi Peter,

With the above connection I can access the NAS from both audio pc (via RDP) as well as music server. Pls note I do not have monitor, keyboard or mouse connected to the audio pc. I operate the XXHE pc via music server (laptop) using RDP.

My music server is connected to the internet via wifi. But no internet connection to the audio pc.

I hope this answers all the questions. Otherwise shoot some more.

Best regards,

Arvind

Hi Gerard,

If you're still considering a NAS for music data storage, that would need to be connected to the music server via Lan.

Hi Gerard,

To your question...yes.

Referring to Mani's suggestion, your music server would need to have 2 lan ports. One to connect NAS & the other to connect to audio pc. If I have understood Mani's suggestion correctly.

Arvind

Hi Gerard,

But that's not the way Peter suggests. It's been proven without a doubt that the audio pc( in your case xxhighend pc) gives better SQ without a monitor, keyboard or mouse connected to it.

Is there a problem using a separate music server, it could just as well be a laptop.

I have a NAS which stores my music but it's connected to the music server (a laptop).

Best regards,

Arvind

Hi Gerard,

How would you operate the XXHighend PC in your proposed set up?

Arvind
