46  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Coverart and Phase Alignment signal on: September 09, 2012, 04:20:41 am

Is a CD cover enough to get cover art working or do I need more data?

put the cd cover jpg in the same folder as your music file or in its own folder under the folder your music file is in.  Name the picture
folder.jpg
and it will work as the front cover.
47  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Crack at Stop on: September 08, 2012, 09:11:09 pm
Are you saying this is solved for my situation as well?  This is no tick, or soft crack (hehe at the levels I play) but a sharp, harsh, loud, speaker-damaging CRACK (although just checked all drivers and they all miraculously work, even the super tweeters... I may not hit you Peter love, but my Drivers want to kick your ass hehe)
I also play mostly 44.1 material going to 176.4 @ 2048

Hope you're talking about a fix for the above situation. I hate to be out of the innovation loop.

edit, and wow that was quick with the new version just while I was posting,,, must have been a simple fix hehe ya right

ALSO
Just to be clear to the noobs out there.  I've been in this experiment with Peter for a long time.  It has always been a Try At Your Own Risk, and I'll take that risk.  If it does go horribly wrong I (and you) will have to deal.  I'll just start over buying what I can.  There were more warnings than usual with PA and I knew the risks.  If you really can't risk, wait for lots of time to go by before trying a new version or want to be perfectly safe go try foobar.  From the beginning this has been Peter's player he is developing for himself, he's just using us for further development and confirmation (the more ears the better to help him make a the best for himself).  We are lucky he decided to let us in on this sometimes risky game.
48  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Crack at Stop on: September 08, 2012, 02:53:03 am
I get a very loud "crack" when the playlist stops or I hit "stop", either in unattended or in attended mode. The crack can e compared to putting a needle on a vinyl disc at full volume,

Welp

After having everything go well, I decided to pull out the volt meter and read again about Phase Alignment to check it out.  I have two Bryston mono amps that work the bottom end of my speakers and one Moscode 401HR  stereo amp that works the top end of the speakers.  (I also have 3 Sunfire subwoofers that get their signal from the Bryston amps via speaker cable; they have internal amps...hmm never checked them).  The Bryston don't pass DC and the Moscode swung from 7mv to 20mv while playing with speaker cables off and -30db.  Ok try with speaker cables.  Everything good to go...
until I hit Stop or album ended.
very loud crack. and at normal volumes just way too loud and scary.  I can't afford to damage the system so...
So I'm off the PA until I/we figure this out.  I suppose I could try turning down the vol right before 'stop', if I really want to listen and evaluate...

no cracks, pops ticks at beginning .middle of songs... but man, when I push stop or it comes to the end of an album all hell breaks loose.
I"ll change my sig soon so you can see where I'm at.  I was  even able to use special mode this time and everything ran well.  I'm using  both special or adaptive mode at the moment.  Everything runs great.... just not PA.

oh ya, this crack at stop happens whether I have the Brystons shut down and the Moscode on, or vice versa.
49  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9Z7: Strange but True on: September 05, 2012, 05:38:45 am
Took Stephan's advice, fiddled with reactivating and got it activated in mimimised mode. Immediately "Unmimimized" and it worked. Now it is staying activated and all is well! One great thing is that reinstalling the OS has solved 90% of the clicks and all plops have disappeared with PA.

I'm half way there!!
I was reading your thread earlier and was going to come back and say
Start again!
forget restore. forget fixing stuff
do what I did, get a HDD exclusively for OS/XXHE (format C:/A512/fs:exFAT) and a HDD for PlayBack (format D:/A:64K/fs:exFAT) (in DOS in another computer)
read read and read again how to start/setup XXHE
http://www.phasure.com/index.php?board=11.0
and if you go slow and carefully you'll be swimming.

I've read the above and then again as each step came up as I setup the computer and XXHE, and I believe that is why at this point I've not ran into a single problem.  Now, I still haven't even activated, but that's because I'm going slow (before you activate I believe Peter suggests to "listen and change settings" first to make sure activation goes correctly) and I am only changing the settings basically one at a time over the course now of a couple days from Peter's suggested start...,

I finally got to switching on Unattended Playback, and I'm already in the Wow phase.  Can't wait to try the PA feature; of course after the volt meter stuff.

I know Peter has probably never had to re-install his original Win 7,,, but for the rest of us, forget fixing it, just re-install.
50  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Experience with DACs other than the Async Phasure NOS using 0.9z-7 ? on: September 05, 2012, 02:54:37 am
Well I'm giving up for today...

I can't use the Mytek in 'Minimize OS' mode. In normal OS mode it shows up as a KS device no problem and everything seems to work OK. But as soon as I go into 'Minimize OS' mode, it disappears. I can still see the Mytek through its USB control panel, but XX just doesn't see it. It doesn't matter if 'Keep WASAPI services' has been activated or not before minimizing the OS.

I just don't think it's worth pursuing unless I can use both DACs in Minimize OS mode.

For another day...

Mani.

Probably not it, but I thought I'd throw it out.  There's the button in settings that you can push in case your dac is using diacritical marks...have you tried activating that?

Peter, how come I don't have to activate that for the Fireface 800 ... thought I would have had to after the + messed everything up in earlier demo 9z-7.
51  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Experience with DACs other than the Async Phasure NOS using 0.9z-7 ? on: September 04, 2012, 04:10:28 am
I'm using a Fireface 800 with my homebuilt PC and XXHE.
Before jumping into XXHE I was using a Sony SCD-1; I loved it but once I got XXHE going I never looked back,,, a couple years back now? whew... it's been a great ride of improving SQ.  I've had a Muse dac and a Stello dac hooked up to the fireface... but I like the fireface well enough alone with 192 hz which XXHe can use to good advantage.
Someday I'd like to pick up Peter's DAC.
52  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Activation ? for 09z-7-2 on: September 03, 2012, 10:17:09 pm
Ok
Just setup Win 7 pro on a new HDD.  Since XXHE is the only program I'm going to have on this HDD, I was hoping to avoid setting up Internet connection on the computer...less is more kinda feeling.  I just activated Windows 7 over the phone.  But now that I'm about to install XXHE I'm thinking, "oops, I wonder if there is any way to activate XXHE without setting up an internet connection on this computer."

Would it be possible to setup XXHE on a different HDD, activate it on that HDD, and then use the activation code on the real XXHE HDD without internet connection?
or
I did activate the 09z-7 you gave us before official release.  Would that code work for the new install of 09z-7-2?
or
What is the way to activate 09z-7-2 on a computer with no internet?

silly customers,
what will they think of next.

53  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: SP1 - is it necessary? on: September 03, 2012, 01:12:57 am
Thanks

Should have known there would have been ink spilled already about SP1.  Still Russ, would like to hear from you.  Still at vanilla and happy?  May try it first just vanilla and later do an sp1 upgrade.
54  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / SP1 - is it necessary? on: September 02, 2012, 08:00:03 pm
Should I install SP1 on top of my new install of Win 7 pro?  Is it necessary?  Is there better sound quality with or without SP1?  Do we even know the answer to this question.  I believe Russ runs without SP1.  ATM I think I'm going to just do an install of Win 7 pro and do no updates?  OK?  Remember, only XXHE program will be on this HDD/essentially computer. Another HDD will cover PlayBack drive and later an SSD for galleries will be introduced.

Gracias,
dave
55  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Formatting HDD for Win 7 on: September 01, 2012, 06:20:12 pm
From:A Guide to Glitchless Playback
http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2029.0
"Warning : Do not make the mistake to format all your disks with the largest block size possible. So, something like the Operating System's disk contains many small files of a few bytes up to a few hundred bytes only. If *that* disk now would be formatted with a 64KB block size, all these small files will occupy 64KB on disk. So, now all takes enormously much more space on disk (10s of 1000s of files)."

So when I format my OS/XXHE HDD (bearing in mind only XXHE will be on there; not galleries not PlayBack)

What
Allocation Unit Size:
would be best?
Just Default? or something else between 512 and 64K?

Thanks,
dave
56  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Partition for PlayBack HDD? on: September 01, 2012, 07:24:03 am
Thanks Russ

Just installed an old 74 GB Velociraptor for the playback drive and formatted

format G:/fs:exFAT/q

I show hidden files but just chose to go here first.  Don't know exfat vs ntfs, but I guess it doesn't matter.  Thought fat was older and limited naming?

Anyway
Should I partition this drive for the Playback?  Size?
57  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: Ignorance sucks + which HDD for Win 7 on: September 01, 2012, 04:09:08 am
wheew

Should I still partition this drive?
Western Digital VelociRaptor 250GB 10000 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
50 GB seems small now, but really/literally the only thing on this will be Win 7 pro & XXHE.  When I set up galleries again I'll be picking up an SSD Later.  So 50 GB partition is the right size to choose for best imaginary performance of XXHE?
58  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Face Palm + which HDD for Win 7 Partition? on: September 01, 2012, 03:44:19 am
Ok I confess,

I decided to spend money rather than choose from what I already had and judging by my little understanding of the discussion above I was still not really sure, ... and because I don't really understand and probably bought the wrong thing anyway....and maybe there really isn't a wrong drive for the Os & XXHE install... and anyway I can always use more HDDs so... I bought this for the OS/XXHE install (that will be the only thing on this HDD, Win 7 Pro au natural & XXHE)

tada
Western Digital VelociRaptor WD2500HHTZ 250GB 10000 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236245

So once I get this cute puppy (XXHE) into minimize it will stay there until the next install of XXHE.

Thanks Russ & Peter
Always interesting
Looking like I won't start until tomorrow or the weekend again.  I am chomping at the bit to get going on this...

60  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Ignorance sucks + which HDD for Win 7 on: August 29, 2012, 02:59:04 am
For the Win 7 64 OS & xxhe only
I've got a choice of:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148140
or
Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB 10000 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" (had another lying around here)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144160

Any gut feelings out there?

Plus!
Thanks for this Peter.  As a long time user of PeterSt software xxhe I didn't know about this:
http://www.phasure.com/index.php?board=11.0
and with the new XXHE  0.9z-7 you better go here first.
Don't know how you squeeze the time to develop and write all this up but,
thanks again PeterSt
